The land to the west of Alresford was sold recently and the M3 Motorway Housing Estates X2 Farms Alresford Scout Hut and the schools are all in the way RIP😭😢😥🥺😿

It was said to be uneconomic. I think if it had survived a few more years it would have been electrified and still part of the national rail network. As it is the section from Alresford to Alton survives as the Mid Hants Railway - one of the south’s premier heritage railways. But the section from Winchester Junction via Itchen Abbas to Alresford has been lifted. Part of the route is now crossed by the M3 motorway.
