If they got released at the same time it would be... probably terrible for Rockstar. Valve releases Half-life games for it's ground breaking tech, not for money, they don't care if it isn't a best selling game because they don't need to make games to earn money, on the other hand, Rockstar is all about making money from games, if the two games got released at the same time and people buys Half-life instead of GTA VI, Rockstar would take too much of a hit in their investiments to stay aflot in the market, probably breaking the company on a short run, we've seen those things happening many times in the 90's with game consoles and pc games. A great example of this is what Half-life 1 did to Sin, a game that got completely forgot because of how big Half-life 1 was at the time.

I remember when Artifact was announced and everyone dog piled on it. When it finally released it lost half it's player base after a day since it cost 20 bucks just to play it at the time. The best thing that came out of it was the Twitch streams which had people streaming Avengers Endgame instead of the game. Eventually we all forgot about it after Half Life Alyx was announced.

Half life 2 was the biggest game they ever made, they have made the source engine, (the upgraded and expanded version of goldsrc.) Which would be used to make games and mods, Facial maps, better coding etc.

@watercs2 Ricochet actually came out in early 1999 as a HL mod, Valve purchased the rights just like CS and released it with CS 1.5. Also, Half-Life Alyx was VR exclusive to PC. The Mac version came with a VR Version and NON-VR Version.

@@grubasekpl9254 Yes, absolutely. If you Pre-Ordered Alyx on Mac Steam. They gave you a non-VR version of Alyx, because the VR version didnt work upon release. Edit: Even till this day the VR version and non-vr version are chalked full of bugs. Wish I could take a SS of my steam games list for you to show.

@@grubasekpl9254 @Nacil_54 Steam offered pre-purchase for Alyx on Mac/Windows but before it ever released Valve announced that they would be dropping support for mac altogether. So they gave us a non-vr mac only version of the game that never worked.... There was even a Steam Email going over details that I am sure the majority of people deleted thinking it was just steam store page spam.

@@Maksimszz it's either they drop CSGO because nobody at Valve works on Source engine anymore, or they do what they did. CSGO was already dying, CS2 only exacerbated the issues that people had with CSGO and made it worse. CS2 is clearly a backlog for them and they don't really care, but if they do decide to make a WORKING anti-cheat for Deadlock then hopes that it will also be used in CS2 because both are Source 2 games.

Team Fortress didn't start as a Half-Life mod, it was a Quake mod. The og TF had nothing to do with Half-Life or Valve initially, Valve just liked the concept.
