Sir Mangler the main advantage to a waterjet is it doesnt affect the metals heat treating vs blow torch plus hold tight tolerances vs a laser a wj can cut 10x thicker material at a slower pace of course.

as it only goes thru sediment filters, not really.. it would at the least require some carbon filtration and go thru a membrane filter or you would risk heavy metal poisoning or other types of health risks due to the dissolved metal contents of the water that sediment filters wont remove. let alone the bacterial and microbial contents of the water that would be contained in it from the sand and crap rotting that has settled for a while..

@LiezerZero7 жыл бұрын
+ShnitzlHaus Come to think of it.. Yea, it would be difficult to filter out of the rock particles from the non-Ferrous particles, and yes it would probably cost more to clean the sand then it would be to buy it.. but then again they use Garnet instead of normal beach type sand. The process would be the same tho and not very cost effective..
@dannooo5487 жыл бұрын
At the shop I work at periodically, they have a fancy filtration system which pumps the tank water up into a large (3ftx3ft or so filter bag to recycle the garnet. The water gets pretty clear after settling- hardly anything is left in the tank.
@ShnitzlHaus7 жыл бұрын
interesting, I assume this would be cycled after a job to keep the garnet in suspension? (yes I see now garnet not sand, using that interchangeably) curious enough to look into that and the life cycle.

height is a problem. did you see the bowling ball video? the ball is only 8.5" tall, and it made a terrible cut at the bottom of it. you could just stack the material high enough to prevent a cut.
@MattWeber8 жыл бұрын
That is more just a speed issue, there isnt much a water jet cant cut if actually take the time to set it to match the material hardness. For these videos it appears simply to be ran in manual control and if they see the water spray back up (moving too fast so the jet didnt fully cut thru), you can see they move it back and finish the cut thru a hair slower.

If you need any advice on it, please give me a shout and I'll be happy to help.

To answer your question....it's both "yes" and "no". Yes.....you can reuse the garnet if you so desire. No......it will not cut as good as the sharp edges have been rounded off.....not as effective.
@jasons56546 жыл бұрын
I looked into it my self I was wondering also , not sure what they do with theirs but the websites I looked at said most places as long as they aren't cutting hazardous materials (lead and such) most landfills will take it as business waste . You can also filter it out with additional machinery and reuse it but it isn't as cost effective. And recycling according to the sights is kinda hard since there's not much industry for it but the garnet sand can be added to walkways and concrete for added durability due to garnets hardness and ability to stick together well with other materials . At least that's what the 3 or 4 sites all said lol

@derekhughes18058 жыл бұрын
When I ran a water jet, I would replace 50-100 slats at a time because they would be cut all the way or cut far enough thru that it wouldn't support material. We ordered slats by the thousand! Every year or so we even had to replace the 2 length wise supports! We even had to drain and clean the tank once because the jet had enough power to push through 3 feet water and blew a hole through the bottom of the tank and needed to be welded! That entire tank of water ended up on the shop floor! LOL
