We made the world's lightest hammer to keep you swinging all day. We used carbon fiber to make it both light weight and very strong.

Still not the best carbon fiber skill, but you are getting somewhere now. You should try to make a light handle out of carbon fiber but have a very heavy head, this should make the hammer most efficient.

@@natalieisagirlnow I'm just saying that most have better success even on their first tries. I would suggest that they make a mold so that they could squeeze the carbon fiber parts. A 3D printer might be a good investment for these carbon fiber projects, especially when they are wasting hundreds of dollars already.

I mean this was interesting, but I would like to see more. The entire point of carbon fiber is its super high tensile strength, but it has very low (basically none) yield strength, hence why people make add the resin and make a composite out of it. The problem being that the resin makes it brittle which for its usual uses isn't really a problem. Would be interesting seeing the same carbon fiber resin composite used as like a wrap around a hardwood core might make it a lot tougher and still pretty light as well as give you a little extra mass for driving the nails in. All that said a hammer which does most of it work using the momentum of its mass isn't exactly a good tool to make lighter.

I'm pretty sure there should be a minimum effective mass for the head where making it any lighter will drop out your potential driving force with an average swing. You know "1/2(mv^2) = mgh" 'v' is obviously the more important variable in kinetic, but without sufficient mass there is no potential.

That equation does not tell the full story though. A 2 pound hammer will always out strike a 1 pound hammer irregardless of how fast the 1 pound hammer is swung due to momentum.

Carbon fiber handle with a metal head is probably the best plan. Hammers are sold to be lighter and heavier for specific jobs. I had a suspicion that it wasn't going to work as well as the regular hammer. Maybe adding a mechanism that increases the velocity of the head would make up for the weight, but I don't think it would be worth engineering something to speed up the force. Reinventing hammers, is kind like reinventing the wheel.
