Thank you for videos of peace. Typically, I watch most videos sped up - sometimes 2X - to be ablate follow them and not get bored. This I did NOT! Watched at normal speed. Mercy is apparent. Thank you for videos of peace! The God bless!

Pastor Doug, I watched this last week, but I just got my e-mail reinstated so that I could re-subscribe & comment. I thoroughly enjoyed this one, amnd I am amazed at your stamina & energy level. As I said elsewhere, "I hope that your service of worship went well today!" To God be the glory! Pastor George

👍 ALL retailers should be ashamed of themselves for selling garbage like that knife. But, crap products aside great video on this shelter. Thank you for sharing.

Yes. I agree. But I only tested the one example of the knife. I'm assuming that all of that model are junk. But I supposed it's possible I got the bad one out of the bunch (and it was a quality control issue).

I have watched a number of similar videos by different people, and I always come away thinking the same thing. These skills are very good to know, but if you are travelling in the woods, it is a good idea to have a tarp. Just look at how much time and effort this (very cool) shelter took and imagine doing that alone in the cold and rain with a sprained ankle. If you are alone and injured or sick you could get a tarp set up in minutes and any wood you gather can be used to build a fire. Again, love the video and I'm not knocking it. It just proves to me the importance of having a tarp.
@DougShoeBushcraft
@DougShoeBushcraft Жыл бұрын
Yes very true. Hikers, hunters, etc should carry a tarp, tent, or at least a poncho or other emergency shelter. I appreciate you trying to word the comment carefully to not offend me. But I'm not offended at all. This is a quality comment. I've found that people do read these and it could help someone from getting into trouble.

It wouldn't be stealthy with a fire. No matter how camouflaged it was the fire would be a dead give away.

Nice shelter and good camo, plus it is all natural materials, I think my wife could still find me though. A good example of why I stay away from cheap tools of any kind, some things are just worth spending the extra bucks for as they are safer and cheaper in the long run. Keep up the good work.

Fun video, I loved the Doug Shoe Shuffle. Thank you for buying that pos blade so we don't have too 😂, I'm in the UK and we don't have Tractor Supply but when you said where you bought it I wasn't expecting it to survive 😂😂. Tramontina & Imacasa both come in 12"-14"-16" upward, great tools after a bit of work (handle and edge) can probably pick them up for around the same price and that piece of crap.

You were surely a trooper continuing to use that busted up blade! It does illustrate how much better a saw is…big saw, small knife, good combo! BUT, you gotta use what you got with you! (Edit) If this were something truly to be stealthy, it’s ultra critical NOT to take the same path to and from it! People see a path and they want to explore it.

I get the waterproof part. I don't know how you'd know it's waterproof without testing it first. But the stealth? What are you hiding from after making all that racket? And a fire would be out of the question. Be safe and return that knife.
@DougShoeBushcraft
@DougShoeBushcraft 11 ай бұрын
I've built a lot of those. Overlapping birch bark shingles are waterproof. Yes there is a lot of noise building it like that, chopping with a knife/mini machete. A shelter like that one will last for years. So the stealth part is having a ready-made shelters in various locations. A lot of people have asked about this so I should have gone over it in the video itself.

How is all that whacking stealthy? That's going to cause people to get their guns and go looking for the trespasser. I like the video but not the premise of stealth by making so much noise.
@DougShoeBushcraft
@DougShoeBushcraft Жыл бұрын
That's a good point about the noise. If you can find a window of time where there is no one around, then the advantage is that the stealth shelter lasts for years. -like in this case.

Stealth huh? With all that chopping of wood I think I'd find you quite easily. Passing quietly and with minimal effect I'd miss you altogether, as ex military we spent a lot of time on E & E exercises, you get to know the signs and noise is an easy give away, as are the birds that suddenly fly up because of the noise. I believe that when we use the words leave no trace we forget the noise humans make. I want to pass unnoticed, unheard, unseen and leaving no trace of where I've been. Sure you can get the work done in short time and after that be silent. But by then I'm already on you, if I'm pursuing you and if I wasn't I'd still be alerted by the noise and go investigate.
@DougShoeBushcraft
@DougShoeBushcraft Жыл бұрын
Yes. Good point about the noise. No one did hear or see me in this particular case. It's called scouting around. The chopping was over days ago, and that shelter will last for literal years.
