I don't think I have ever said this before....
I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS TENT!
I hate the design, the quality is poor, the setup process is flat out TERRIBLE and wait until you see what happens with this rain testing.
Warning, Do Not Buy This Tent!
This is the Test Night for the Decathlon Forclaz QuickHiker II Fresh & Black tent..... it has some MAJOR problems and I hate it!

I was traveling New-Zealand for two mounths living inside this tent in the rain and frost, never had an issue like any mantioned here... in my opinion, very durable and comfrtoble tent, super easy to set up with the sleeve system. One time I remember that I camped at night, didn't see anything and in the morning woke up to floating tent over water because I put it on a pit in the ground, it was raining the hole night and not a single drop got into the tent from above or under :)

I had this tent for 2 years now(quickhiker 3p tent), but I never experienced condensation in a 29F weather, I also used it twice on a very rainy day, and water never came through inside. The setup process in the beginning was hard, but after it's easy for me to put it together by myself. I love this tent ⛺️!

Really surprised on this one …have used decathlon tents for years and never had a problem. Had the heaviest rain I’ve ever camped in and was using their original pop up 1 person tent and not a drop got in…bet they’d like to know about this fail . Another great vid 👍

I'd love to see you set up a tent you like next to tents you're testing as a control. All of that moisture looked like condensation to me, which is going to affect any tent under the right conditions.

Right? I have the Decathlon MH100 2p tent and it kept me bone-dry through 4 nights of non-stop rain with extreme high winds, there wasn't a single drop of water in side, not even from condensation as the airflow was superb. It is very strange of the same company to make such a good product and the same time such a bad product, granted, they're not from the same product line, perhaps different production sites? (Mine was produced in Europe)

Same here! Mostly the tents of decatlon are very strong and a 100 procent water proof. If bin in some really bad weather, high wind peaks en water upon my ankles and it still was rock steady and dry!

You need to do a review of the decathlon Forclaz Trekking MT 900 tent! It's an amazing budget ultralight 1 person TENT, around 150€ and just over 2 pounds (~1300gr), including tent poles. I purchased one recently and the quality seems really good. Additionally, there are pretty much no reviews for this tent on YT, and I would love it if you could review it!

I ordered a 2-person TETON Sports Mountain Ultra Tent based on your review. The price was right and judging from your experience it performed great. So, thank you for that. Been looking for a decent tent for a while. As far as the Forclaz tent goes- what a buzz kill. There is a way to get around the leaking issue using tarpology. Have to implement a second over-the-tent tarp (8x10?) which would add even more weight to your pack defeating the purpose of long distance hiking.

i bought the decathlon quechua arpenaz 4.1 4 person tunnel tent for car camping, the first night I used it, it rained none stop for 11 hours and held up great, the problem was..... the poles.!!! they have the pins that you have to insert into the poles, and boy did they take some persuading.!!! I used all my strength and failed the first time, I literally had to walk away and chill for 5 minutes and try again, because it was so frustrating, there was so much tension on the rear pole that it later buckled under the stress. reviews are so important.

I agree. I've had a Decathlon tent of the cheaper Arpenaz series for years (also Fresh&Black) and I've never experienced any leaks or serious buildup of moisture. To be honest that wasn't an extreme rain event. I've been in a 4 man Cabela's Alaskan during a tropical storm and 65 mph winds, bone dry. I wouldn't expect that from a budget tent but for a higher quality tent yes. They probably outsourced the manufacturing of this line and it bit them. They're usually quality tents. I hope they have a reply.

I have a lot of hiking equipment (rucksacks, walking boots, water bottles and similar) from Decathlon and they are excellent. When I bought a new backpacking tent I didn't see anything in their range that looked good, so I bought a more expensive tent which has passed my personal waterproof testing. It's the Zephyros Compact 1, which I think I bought from Cotswold Outdoors. It was around £170 I think. It's very light, easy to set up and survived a whole night of very heavy rain with me inside it.

Its what we call in the UK a "festival tent" kids buy them, go to a music festival and dump them, as bad as that is. But...just because a tent is cheap doesn't always mean it's bad, my old Coleman lasted me nearly 5 years with varied weather use and I only got rid of it because I lost a part on camp and couldn't order a replacement. Always worth reviewing cheap tents, there are some great things about.

Greetings from Portugal...As as a person originally from Texas living here now for the past 5 years, I can say Decathlon is a lot like Academy Sports back home...For the price some of the gear, clothing wise has held up pretty darn good...I have bought there brands in backpacks, socks, work out gear, hiking pants, shirts, rain jackets and pants, fleece jackets, duffle bags and they are still kicking right next to My North Face, Patagonia, Salomon etc...gear...Wild camping is not allowed in Portugal, but if you go to one of the Big Decathlon stores, you will find all kinds of tents...For some things I stick with brands I know and Trust...Footwear and Tents to boot...Enjoy the Journey...Bom Noite from Portugal...🇵🇹😉🤠

Wow almost 200 for this guy. And the Teton you did was like 120 and it held the rain out. I did check into that Teton 2p tent and seen lots of bad reviews because the paper work said it came with a ground fly and bag. And it did not. I hate when tent company’s get started get a good rep then the first thing they take out once they make a name is the ground sheet and bag. Thought that was kinda sad on there end. Good review man keep it honest. If it leaks it leaks if It doesn’t it doesn’t it’s what’s important to a person when they invest in a shelter to keep them from that main element. I mean most people go camping in conditions where rain is the bad guy. And if you can’t trust a tent to withhold that then what good is it really. A large plain tarp holds more value then a 500 dollar tent that can’t keep out rain. Giving us a heads up is a good thing. And testing them in strong rains is a good thing. Because sleeping in puddle in the middle of nowhere is dangerous. Don’t let no body pressure you to go easy on the testing bro. Because the company’s should do the same thing before they even sell one tent.

That's weird. I think that might be a defective batch/series. I have the lighter version of this tent (Forclaz 500) which is not the black out model. And it doesn't have the issue with setting up you had. In fact, it's super easy and fast to set it up. I've did it in windy and terrible conditions, and I love the fly first pitch. I've also been in rains, and slept next to waterfalls in it. and no condensation of leaking at all. Worked perfectly. The ventilation was great, even tho the body has very little mesh. There is a possibility that the Black&Fresh model is more of a summer tent, since it's meant to be heat reflective.

I am a "hard core" tent user and among my collection of tents is a number of Dechatlon Quechua tents which were always great regardless the budget price. I am surprised with the bad performance of this one you tested. Maybe somethong went wrong with the specific tent during the production or storage... I left disposed my Robens tent in my car for a couple of days in a summertime and the tent was destroyed regarding the leaking as the polyester material when heated changed the seams waterproof performance. Maybe the tested tent wasn't with the correct storage in the process of transpotration from final production to the seller? Dechatlon is the World top tent seller regarding the sold tents and good quallity control after the production.

It's incredible how many tents leak. You have one job...
@tulenik71
@tulenik71 8 ай бұрын
Not sure if that was really leaking. When it is pitched up containing relatively warmer air, especially in wet conditions, and left to cool down, there simply must be some condensation on the bottom side of outer tent and in some extent inner tent, too. I used morning status of inner tent as a weather forecast - if inner tent was completely dry, bad things happened (it seems counterintuitive, but it really is that way - if the sky during the night is clear, heat is radiated to the space more in comparison with the situation when it is partially reflected back by clouds, principle is similar to gerenhouse effect of CO2; because of cold night, there's more condensation inside when the sky is clear). Then, if you have tent exposed to the elements for several days, every day warmer and wetter air will replace once dried air inside and during the night it is cooled down and dried with water remaining somewhere inside. How much water will be left inside depends on humidity and temperature changes. Unfortunately because of that, your tests aren't reproducible. Some tents simply had bad luck and some had an advantage without you knowing that. Rain test is OK for searching the leaks, real leaks through the seams and holes, but inner condensation is in fact unpredictable in uncontrolled environment.

Have you considered doing a live broadcast from the field, do a question and answer segment, that would be totally awesome

Checks all the thumbs down boxes. At the bare minimum a tent must keep you dry. Keep up the honest work.

Sorry to hear of the difficulty in set up, and the wet test result - I was hoping it would be better. Could you pls put together a list of reasonably priced tents for two plus (in the sense of being on the larger size as some tents for two don't leave any space for your staff) that's not too heavy/bulky.

Would you consider reviewing the decathalon mh100? It appears to be a rock solid budget tent that is probably best suited for colder weather camping.

I never had issues with my tent. I have this exsct one and the 3 person MH100 version. Both are good tents. Im in California. Maybe the rain is nicer here. LOL

I wonder how much of that was leakage versus condensation from the wet ground it sat on? If I were to pitch a roll of waterproof drop cloth as a tarp over damp ground, the underside would be soaked after a day. I'm not saying it's a good tent, but wet dirt under an awning with temperature changes will make the outer wall of a double walled tent wet. However, the walls are supposed to be steep enough fro the condensation to run down the walls instead of dripping on the interior.

I could've bought this product, but I backed of because I use trekking poles and the weight seemed unreasonably important. Glad I did. Still looking for a good, light & made in Europe tent tho. I'm quite tall at 1m90, so around 6.9' I think.

Check out the Jack Wolfskin Gossamer. Luke did a test for the 2 person version and it did very well. Excellent value for money. Not actually made in Europe but a European brand.

Hey Luke, with all that condensation, it's almost like somsbody spent the night inside "completly" sealed up! Hope they brought their floaties and a life jacket! Course you could meet them in the morning with a towel, and a cup of "hot" tasters nasty

Luke, I want to do some hiking with my son but at 10 he is getting too big to cram into my little Alps Lynx with me. I’m not wealthy and have to budget for all my gear. I know big Agnes is awesome but would take me an extra two months to save for. I’m looking at the Lanshan 2 or Lanshan 2 Pro as affordable options with a decent reputation. I’d be hauling the entire tent so weight is an issue. Can you test one of these?

Hey Luke thanks for another genuine review my first serious tent was the Snugpak Bunker 3 person tent I've used that dozens of times here in the Welsh mountains and it has always kept me and my Dog dry for an entire weekend Friday to Monday it rained and it was not an issue. I have a super tent the Pomoly Hex 2 person tent with half inner mesh that's what I've been using recently 5 times so far and it's a dream tent I just need a collapsible Titanium Pomoly Stove to complete the tent as at high altitudes here 6000 metres above sea level it's cold thank goodness for my Snugpak Antarctica RE sleepingbag.
