Love mine! If you are newer to these style boots, its a good start for comfort. No breaking in like the others. Buffalo Blood is a beautiful color.

Nice video, just one thing: I am pretty sure that Red Wing does not use fake welts. Storm welts are still made of leather, just a much thicker piece that is then split to the middle and formed into place. It is also stated as a leather storm welt on their website.

Great review, as always! Very curious to see a long term review of these. The lack of Gore-Tex was the very reason I became interested in high quality leather shoes in the first place. I don’t find synthetic membranes not very useful in footwear, as it takes ages to dry, and will eventually wear out and is not repairable. High quality leather is a great natural membrane by it self!

Interesting question, Fat Face clothing seems of reasonable quality and they do try to manufacture ethically / sustainably I believe. It is probably one of the better high street options, although I hear they are shutting all outlets in the new year (?)... awful name though isnt it?!?

Now that youve had some time with the boots... can I ask, what do you think is the better redwing winter boot between the 8864 and sawmills? the sawmills have a better winter tread for sure but beyond that, do you think one is warmer then the other? do you find one is more water resistant then the other? do you think one will hold up better long term then the other? (mainly thinking about the synthetic materials wear inside the boots) Your thoughts/opinion would be appreciated as Im having a tough time choosing between the 2, thanks a lot

Just bought these 8864s. Overall very happy with them, felt comfortable from the go, went half a size down and still plenty of room for thick socks. My only niggles are the laces are to short and the tongue gusset could of been a bit lower to make them easier to get on.

I agree these are more tricky to get on than other RWs, the tongue actually attaches at the same point as my 1907s (slightly higher than my Rovers).. I wonder if it is just the liner that makes slipping them on a little harder?

I can never understand why boots of this quality have too resort to putting a synthetic pipping around the top of the collar as my beckmans do and they’ve perished over the last two years, as you know they are around the £300 mark, so I’m absolutely baffled why they can’t finish them off with a silly little piece of leather.
