Wave Race Deserved Better

As summer comes to a close, it's time for one last sunny hoo-rah, and what better way to do that than with some extremely frustrating jet-ski racing! Wave Race, (Gameboy), Wave Race 64 (Nintendo 64), and Wave Race: Blue Storm (Gamecube), are all part of one of the greatest racing series to ever be discontinued. In this video, I talk about what makes these games so special, I consult with a wave EXPERT, and I discuss why there has never been a better time to bring this series back. Seriously, it could be better than Mario Kart!

I got the GameBoy game shortly after my graduation in 1992. It was actually a very fun experience and I love the soundtrack for it. I was always playing it on the commuter bus to work every morning. Sad that it's so forgotten.

Playing Wave Race on the original Gameboy on a commuter bus sounds like such a vibe - I respect that. To add another layer to the sadness - most emulators really seem to butcher that game (you may be able to tell thag the footage I have in this video is a tad wonky). So if someone wants the true original wave race experience, they have to track down an actual copy of the game and get a Gameboy, which are things that not many folks have laying around these days! Nintendo really needs to add original Gameboy games to their NSO subscription.

I miss this series soo much, it’s a crime Nintendo hasn’t made a new wave race the wii we could forgive with the wii u and switch imagine how good a modern wave race game could’ve looked with the switch too I feel like the joy cons hd rumble would’ve been really suited for wave race imagine feeling all the different waves through your controller

I think if it were to come back it needs to be like Super Smash Bros Ultimate where it had everything in one game as a way for to come back. Same way if F-Zero ever makes a return and do the same way.

While I can appreciate the dolphin race mode of this game, there is another game that did it much better and with less cruelty towards animals (I barfed in my mouth watching that poor dolphin get skidded across the beach like some water cooler). In ENDLESS OCEAN (and its sequel BLUE WORLD), not only can you become FRIENDS with a DOLPHIN but you can have MULTIPLE dolphin friends. To interact with a dolphin, you PET it until you form a bond. And anywhere you want to travel in the ocean, you whistle to your dolphin and they can help you glide through areas. You can also name your dolphin. I named one BRUCE. I agree, Wave Race needs more love. But what about ENDLESS OCEAN? It has been 13 YEARS since we received a new installment. While grindy games are popular now, so are CHILLAXED games to balance it out. Send me a message to discuss video ideas further - I think we're on to something here...

The characters definitely matter in 64. There's a reason speedruns are done with David Mariner and high score stunt modes are done with Miles Jeter. Great video though.

@@GameGuy53 Speedruns are pretty cool, but the stunt mode runs are insane. I play a ton of wave racer and when you try D. Mariner against anyone else with stunts, the guy definitely definitely had far more trouble landing tricks (His blue storm stats are essentially the same though, same for Ryota Hayami and Ayumi Stewart, M. jeter however is like a combo of Nigel Carver and Ryota's speed with his superior turning and stunts, but weak grip to boot.)

I’ve never actually played Sled Storm, I’ve only heard the legends and seen gameplay, but it looks super fun. I may have to nab a copy of it for my PS2.

@@GameGuy53 i believe the ps1 original is the best (imo). the tracks have great short cuts and the snowmobile customization is top notch for such an old franchise. Plus Rob Zombies Dragula is the "main theme". Now the question is was Dragula feature in Twisted Metal 4 or SledStorm first!?!
