Happy Friday! Fyi but Arc/eArc is different from cec. eArc is for soundbar features like better lip syncing and higher bandwidth. It’s usually only on one labeled port. Cec is for controlling hdmi devices. Usually on all ports. Cheers!
@xirxes3 ай бұрын
ARC is literally just "Audio Return Channel" and it essentially is just that port is wired up to both send and receive S/PDIF audio signals, instead of just receive. HDMI audio is basically the same as coaxial/optical audio, with the exception of higher possible bandwidth.
@GimmeTaxShelter3 ай бұрын
Ellis would have know this 😂
@esaedvik3 ай бұрын
eARC is just more bandwidth, allowing support for uncompressed audio formats and Atmos. A newer version of ARC. Lipsync (or soundbars, since it also works with receivers) has nothing to do with it per se.

eARC and ARC are about controlling the sending the sound through HDMI (and lets you control it with your TV). Y’all are thinking of HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) which isn’t exclusive to ARC. Also some remotes (Fire TV for example) have an IR blaster that controls the TV, working essentially as a universal remote.

To address the concerns about 2 remotes, the chromecast with Google TV and I believe the new Google TV streamer has IR in the remote, and you can have it set to directly control the volume of your soundbar. So you can have a set where the volume controls the soundbar, and the power controls the tv. No matter if your hdmi tv or cables support it

For the section about TVs and HDMI eARC, you wouldn’t have to plug the Google TV, or any streaming device for that matter, into the eARC. Any HDMI will work just fine to power the TV on using the streaming box remote so long as the TV has HDMI-CEC, which most if not all modern TVs do. Hope this helps, love your videos and this team!!!!!

30:04 I personally try to watch multiple games at once but it’s only for football when my home team isn’t playing. I also tend to pick one of the games to full screen view until commercial. Then I go back to multiview to only pick the next best looking game until commercial so for the average homeowner I thinks it is not beneficial, but for sports bars and restaurants, it benefits them having multiple games on so people out of state can see their game if it’s only on a 1/4 screen. I think this is where the AR or glasses that show a screen to a specific pair of glasses might work. New tech but I love this podcast and this episode so much for some reason haha 😂

Thermostat placement: think interior walls vs exterior walls, can be a 20deg swing. Also, most houses have a basement, main floor and 2nd floor. Average 10deg difference per floor, less if circulation is “always on”. If your nursery is on the 2nd floor, temp set to 72, thermostat on main floor, AC may only cool the nursery to 78deg on a hot day before the thermostat on main floor reads 72.
