AI engineer, who is also wearing the apple watch ultra with a tiny wrist, here. Ellis' theory mostly checks out, and let me explain why the solution can not be simpler. Our arms' radius are not uniform throughout, which means that watches can move on your wrists. Depending on where your watch is (e.g, close on the bone, strap loosen), the sensor data vary, including the small intervals where your HR is 0. The amount of false positives are big, and traditional algorithm will annoyingly inform you every loss of pulse. This is why hospitals clip your fingers to track your HR. A model can, as Ellis has guessed, take into account other metrics, and intepret the abnormal progression of your HR to make an informed decision.

1:18:20 - an explanation for Ellis n David. For noise cancellation the earbuds play a 'negative' of the noise it hears through the mic into your ear. Usually the mic is outside the earbuds. So the Tensor A1 in pixel buds works 90 x faster than the time it takes for sound to travel from the mic on the outside to your ear. I hope this explains. And they could have worded this better

The reason the test devices were not Pixel 9's is because they wanted to show that Gemini is not a Pixel exclusive feature. It's an Android feature and they want iphone users to come to Android. Rick Osterloh knows and publicly said, that very few Samsung users switch to Pixel. And while of course Made by Google wants you to use their devices. In the bigger picture they just want Iphone users to come to Android.

Dawg, what are you on about? The demos were on pixel 9 devices, both during the live demos and the ones Marques did in his video. You need to buy a new pair of eyes AND a new pixel 9 so you can ask it what phone was in the presentation and videos.
@BowlingNG3 ай бұрын
@@jamopopper 🤦🤦 (10:42 to 17:34 on the Made by Google keynote) they had not even shown the new Pixel yet. They were testing Gemini features on the S24Ultra and the Motorola Raz+. Showing that Gemini is for Android. Not a Pixel exclusive. This is what David, Andrew, and Marques were talking about. No one said they weren't demoing the Pixel 9. They just made the comment that it was strange for a Made By Google event the first devices to come out wasn't the new Pixel. It's Samsung and Motorola devices. I pointed out that the reason for them showing off Gemini features on other devices before the Pixel 9. Is because they want users to see that Gemini is an Android feature. 1:09:00 if it was so straight forward life alert bracelets, or similar products, would already have this functionality, they don't. There are instances where a peripheral pulse (arms/legs) is not detectable either because a heart beating erratically (arrhythmias), not at all (asystole/flat line) or due to low blood pressure (usually less than 90 systolic)...there are plenty of other reasons too. As a doctor, multiple physical observations allow me to figure this out easy. If I was limited to just observations on the wrist, it would require more inference or AI in the watch's case to avoid false calls to EMS. I think you guys thought heart rate detection was a binary outcome (alive or dead), it's not, so it needs AI to not be useless.

I knew a friend of mine that he lived alone and he had apnea and breathing issues and he was found dead in his home alone a week after he had died. It might not of changed anything if he had a watch that had that feature but at the very least he would of not spent a week alone dead in his own home, if that means anything to anyone that cares about a loved one.

I am having an Implant in my chest to record this event for future treatments, but this feature seems so cool, because it calls for the medical help. which is really really good. that reason alone makes that watch seems compelling. For context: Screenshots actually don't take that much space as a normal photo. Since normal photos have a lot of noise in it, when you compress them, you have to store all those details. With screenshots, you can compress them in a much better way because a lot of it is same pixels (or much more uniform as compared to a normal photo).

01:00:20 “Add me” to me is just another tool driving us further from actual human interactions. At least here in Europe, it is quite common to approach people and ask if they could take a photo of you with your group. I’ve never heard someone say “no” or deliver a bad photo and just like circling to search clothes of passerbys, instead of asking them and complementing their fit, it takes away another human to human interaction which we can definitely all benefit from.

When Google does this, it feels more like a Samsung event, especially with Gemini being used in Samsung devices before the Pixel 9 series even got announced. A lot of this feels, to me, like what some video games felt like around the dawn of the PS3 and Xbox 360. Studios suddenly gained access to these new machines with much greater processing power, but at first they just sorta kept making games like they had been on the PS2, but at 1080p instead of 480p. They didn't really understand what new possibilities the new technology could enable them to do until 3-4 years into the console's lifespan. Google is kinda doing the same thing here by retreading old ground with the screenshots thing. They're just doing the same thing they did before, but now it has AI for no necessary reason. And they probably won't come out with any groundbreaking mainstream AI-based utility for another couple years still.
