I just realized yesterday he was referring to Jimmy Rogers because of the somebody" yodel " and the hobo moan. I was born in 1980 but folks don't necessarily reference jimmy Rogers these days and that was him tipping his hat to one of the greatest musical pioneer to have ever. Laid down track on the railroad of country music He is a beautiful soul and. Brilliant mind. Thank God for his contribution

The problem with this song has always been the fact that it's too short. I wish ol' Waymore would have added a few more verses before he checked out. I can remember being 18 years old, riding around with my friend and "rewinding" this song over and over and screaming it to the top of our lungs. Classic.

This song is pure genius. It makes absolutely no sense, but it does at the same time. The way he strings the ideas together is pure madness. You keep listening and if you aren't paying close enough attention it'll fly right over your head.
@Grumstrup1211 жыл бұрын
I guess Waylon is describing the road of life for an American outlaw. Rust Cohle can relate --:)
@brandynbjames11 жыл бұрын
Grumstrup12 I'm not too sure about that. When I read through the lyrics it doesn't have any singular train of thought. It's almost like he wanted to work on his technique in stringing ideas together in such a way that the very ideas he manipulates can be all over the place. Usually songs have a progressive storyline, in the basic sense, but this song has no singular 'train of thought'. This is what I think, anyway.

***** Well first of all, it was HIS damn song.
@dwain08737 жыл бұрын
I agree
@jamesthrills5 жыл бұрын
It's probably because the lyrics are lifted from disparate songs. Two verses come from "Keep it Clean" by Charley Jordan: If you want to go to heaven when you D-I-E... and the get the rabbit out the L-O-G... and then the line about having his name on his shirt seems to be repurposed from "Blue Yodel No. 9" by Jimmie Rodgers. Both of those songs were written before he was born. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't find the rest of the lyrics in another song. He basically pasted a bunch of songs together over a two chord pattern. I like his music. My band covers his songs (including this one) but I wouldn't call this pure genius.

I waved a black sedan through and the driver gave me a thumbs up, which I returned a confused look because I couldn’t have looked like much, at which he pointed at his face with both hands and smiled. I recognized him and gave him two thumbs up, to which he touched the brim of his hat and drove past. I had the chills for the rest of the day and I still get the chills when I think about it even in the height of summer; now folks that is cool... And if that story isn’t true, it sure ought to be.

Waylon lived in Tempe until his death,in his later years. Jesse still does,as does his son,Shooter. He's buried in the Tempe cemetery. Just caddy corner from the office building in the middle there. People years ago started a tradition regarding his gravestone. He did a song with the lyrics "I'm four quarters short of a dollar" and they began leaving four quarters on his stone plate. You pick up the set of quarters left,then replace them with your own. So he'll never be broke,in either world. I have my first set of quarters in a small leather box. I go out there sometimes,just to visit,but now I always take with me four quarters,..for Waylon.

Right!?, That's funny. , Little something called "outlaw CUNTry" Kind of like driving my truck thru a nice part of town with a little bit of mud left on , also it is sort of down home laid-back kinda countryness nature of the man And the reason he can get away with it is the relative ease of country folk's speaking style. Maybe cuz when you are country the way of life and activities are set to the pace of. Gotta get things done and you can not be ashamed of yourself or for that matter smear mud and dirt in the path of chores needin done . Country life is visceral simple and things, I feel are a bit more directly connected to one another . God bless the truest of real country singers who are come and gone having blessed us so . We are given a societal legacy of something that is a distinctly and invariably American artform , many. Tributaries but the streams of which came 2gether right here Much love and respect God is truly great y'all!

He seems like a man. A normal man. Just talking with his wife. It feels like he is sitting right next to you. You can damn near smell the cigarettes on him. Just some guy. He's not talking to the audience or the interviewer. Just like a man and women sitting on a bed playing guitar and talking. This video is amazing. Most videos, even interviews it's like the camera is 20 feet from the artist and they're talking. Like on the Tonight Show or Ralph Emery. But this seems like he's an inch away. Thanks for posting it.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm just here reminiscing about my dad who died in 2011. He lived Waylon. I never have watched much if him or knew a lot of his songs or anything about him really except my dad loved him. So I was watching this video and I'm thinking there's something about it...kinda like de ja vu or something strange so I start reading the comments and I see yours which describes it perfectly. I've read a few other comments similar to yours. Something about this video is almost magical (for the lack of a better word) about it.

🎸ABSOLUTELY ! This is by far, in my all time fav's. I always feel as if we're right there, trying to choke it up for Mrs.Jes Jen, Knowing.., Only Ol' Waylon can break it right down, then say, "I don't know what it's about.., really.., when she quickly replies w/knods & those beautiful eyes, right between them, that are perfectly fixed on the other, while She gets her point across with complete grace. Again, like you're sitting right beside them & that awkward feeling like, Bless her 💟& He's Waylon & this is Waylon, I mean Waymore's Blues, but Don't read too much into Honey, just fumbled around for a story.., It's that Rhett & Mrs Scarlett, Priscilla & Elvis, Jack & Jackie K. June w/cool & cocky Johnny to go on down to Jackson, Doo' & the ones that weren't "woman enough to take Loretta's man," kind of moments in time, when you are "there !" Classic & Thx for the share, I've enjoyed it beyond measure. 🎤

Hi Jim, I really like the way you put it, this was a good video because of the close up intimacy between husband and wife talking about a song, both of them writers of classic songs. I’ve always loved this song from the early 1970s Waymores Blues.

I am proud to say that I grew up listening to alot of Waylon jennings, and I even got to go to one of his concerts when I was thirteen years old back in 1979 in Corvallis Oregon. 😉

I like to think my dad was listening to this back in the day, while wrenching on his race cars. Wish I could have known him longer. My dad was awesome, a real OG hot-rodder. He owned the local drag strip in Huntsville, AL.
