Never apologize for being your version of black. Dont let anyone pigeon hole you to liking what everyone else likes, or following the crowd. The great part of being black (or any other color) is that you get to be authentically yourself. The labels people have for you cannot hold you down.

That’s true and just a bit of how the labels work. Our brain in general when learning information, tends to categorize information learned by categories and builds their understanding of job, living, people, animals, etc etc based on information learned and experiences. As an example, as a Russian who came here as a kid in 90s and technically falling under white category, I can’t tell you the number of times I had people tell me in a handle alcohol (when I was an adult) and drinking vodka simply because I was Russian or If bears were running on the streets and all I ate was borscht. I could get mad, but if that’s all people are exposed to through TV, lack of exposure to Russian culture on TV, or lack of any Russian friends who may surprise you with not having strong Russian accent, hating borscht or not drinking, we’d still believe all those stereotypes that are simply pieces of info that we place folks into when we are learning about them. So I don’t get mad and when folks say, “wow you don’t have an accent!” Or “of course it’s vodka!”, I move on because through my time with them, they will learn more about the diversity of even our culture. That’s the beauty of getting to know each other. Most of us are multicultural, multinational at times. On a side note, I used to work at a talent agency in LA and not surprisingly actors who were of Russian descent and spoke Russian and were great actors with talent, often times would get pigeonholed into Russian mafia or Russian KGB or whatever other stereotype. It’s not a bad thing because it gives you exposure but most actors get cast based on their race, nationality, age, sex etc and partly it’s normal because you are trying to find a character that can fit the mold that’s written in the script. Then it’s up to the actor to try to break out of specific roles or character types. :) Same as in life, we are all always sharing our own multi dimensional backgrounds and work experiences etc and related based on similarities and differences. :)

This comment makes no sense. You’re using black like it is a thing, but are also saying its thing is that it can be anything. Which makes it nothing.
@tbirdguy1
@tbirdguy1 Жыл бұрын
@@hermesmcclintok I know that some people have a difficult time discussing complex things in short online posts. So in a nutshell. What are you? Your identity is more then what other people think of you. You can be white, american, straight, old, and married. Does any of those identifiers equal the whole of you? Of course not. Being black means you are human, just like everyone else. But it also means that you will be treated as inferior by certain people. That is a reality, facts and statistics prove this. Being black is a "real thing", but it is only one part of a persons being. It doesnt mean you are better then anyone or worse. Being black doesnt mean you are culturally african. It doesnt mean you must act like what other people think a black person is. Many people who are black are scared to be themselves, because people around them, many times other black people, can make them feel lesser for not choosing to be just like everyone else. Its a thing that happens to people from many cultures, so my comment was directed at anyone who is living thier lives by other peoples stereotyping. Being black can mean a lot more then what white people see when they look at black skin. Being black is not everything, no one will ever look at a black person and say they are asian. No one will listen to rap by NWA and say 'thats white people music'. Being Black is not just one thing, but it is not everything. It is a label, one of many. But there are many different definitions of blackness. Something you would understand if you were black, or rather if you were black and had actual maturity and intelligence. If you don't get it, then it isn't my job to explain it to you. Education is the key to getting past your issues. Maybe talk to some black people in your life about what it is like to be them. If you don't have any black people in your life, maybe research some interesting black writers and artist and educate yourself. A good place to start would be James Baldwin, a great and influentual writer, read something of his and expand your mind. Happy reading. So just to reiterate to you in the back. Black isnt everything, but it is well beyond the limitations of some folks imagination. The same is true of other racial, ethnic, and cultural indentities. If your entire indentity can be summed up by a simple ideology, or one symbol, one pervasive thought. I submit that you are very very small, and very very sad. So dramatically limiting what you are and who you can be, no matter where you come from or your color makes me feel sad for you. Ps. When someone says something you dont understand, its ok to ask questions. But dont assume your question is a good one, or an intelligent one. Stating conclusions in an attempt to reaffirm your own false sense of superiority... is just you showing ignorance.

I have a serious question….was he saying the world keep it out of your mouth or only white people? Because he did point out a white person in the crowd. If “ blood is all over that word” shouldn’t it be kept out of any breathing soul, no matter color or race? Just curious on another point because it’s such a vile word, why would we want anybody saying it unless it’s in some type of format for teaching history in the appropriate setting. I ask because I have teenagers, and they came home using the word with an a blessing this song, and I shut it down! I didn’t care whether it was in a song or how it was being used to me. The word is vile whether it’s used in slang, or being used the way it was back in the day. Just asking somebody’s opinion. Thank you and by the way, we are home of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent.

That’s actually sorta messed up because Tinsley really does have a lot of trauma due to her dad being gone. Was not expecting him to say that 🥴

@@siiiiiuu7 I don’t think Wayne knows Tinsley from the housewives. He just thought it was a white girl name.
