I remember meeting Walter at the Mcdonald's on King George Road in Brantford, he thought I looked lonely and decided to sit down and eat lunch with me. I look back on that day with fond nostalgia because here was a total stranger who took the time to brighten my day. He was an angel on Earth, and Brantford will never be the same now that he's gone.

I was getting frustrated n started crying an some nice old man taught me how to skate. Turns out the nice old man was Walter lol. I just wish he was still alive to teach me how to stop lmao

Many years ago my son discovered I was going to Brantford on business and begged me to take him so he could see Gretzky's house. I ended up sitting embarrassed in their driveway when my son rushed to knock on the door. Walter of course took him right in and proceeded to take him downstairs to show him the trophy rooms. He also gave my son cookies and milk. About 1/2 hour later my son came out with an autographed picture of Wayne which he stared at all the way back to Toronto. This was repeated I am told hundreds of times with complete strangers showing up at their house. That always impressed me more than anything about the Gretzky clan. RIP dear Walter. Canada has lost a truly great one.

It was Walter who got up at 5am and took Wayne to hockey, built rinks for him in the backyard..."He helped to shape Wayne and mold him into what he became..., the GOAT. It wasn't only hockey, Walter mentored Wayne in ways to be humble, patient, a good sportsman, a gentleman and later on in life.., how to be a good dad. I think Walters bucket list was completed in its entirety, he got all that he ever wanted out of life and so much more.., deservingly so . Walter may have left this world, we will miss him, but his spirit lives on in Wayne. He touched the souls of many and inspired thousands of dads all across North America to be involved in hockey with their sons and daughters.. I have no sorrow for Walter, I would rather save mine for his family, it is they who have lost someone so near and dear. God Speed Walter, You are indeed..., One of the greats dads of all time.

I got to meet Walter at an airport once. I was seated two seats over from him. I generally leave celebrities alone when I see them and respect their space. Walter leaned over and asked me where my wife and I were going and we had a very nice chat. He was very sociable and a pleasure to talk to. At the end he went into his bag and pulled out some hockey leaflets and signed them for us and some for the family we were on our way to visit. Great man. Rest in peace

God Bless Walter Gretzky. And God bless his family. Exemplary human beings. Wayne has always accepted these instances where his private life has been made public. It’s something he’s dealt with his whole life. The most amazing thing about it is that he’s never seemed even slightly bitter or resentful about it. He not only gave so much of himself as an athlete, but he’s also been more than willing to welcome that part of his fan base that have wanted to know him outside of the sporting world. His parents were truly special people.
