The amount of the work (does the amount copies represent the “heart” of the work). The impact on the original work (does this borrowing substantially reduce the market for the original work). Other ridiculous incidents with Led Zeppelin and the movies: Phantom of the Paradise (1974). The villain of the film was a music producer named Swan and his record label was originally called Swansong Records until Led Zeppelin threatened to sue because they had a song with the same name, even though the term "swan song" (the last song a singer performs at a show) had been in use for decades by that point. So the filmmakers had to reedit the film and change it to "Death Records." Bad Lieutenant (1992). Threatening to sue because a song used in the film had a riff too close to Kashmir. The song was recorded exclusively for the movie and there were no plans to release a soundtrack album. The movie had already come out on home video so the VHS version has the song but the DVD has the song removed.

SOME music stores take this shit way too seriously 😂 I've seen people kicked out, cussed out, refused service, all because of a Wayne's world joke 😂
@ReanimatorsMutilations7 ай бұрын
No. The Wayne's world joke is based on them already doing it

I thought I was crazy all this time! I swore I heard the original notes in the theater and never heard it again.. thanks for clarifying this dude!

I agree with @thebeardsgarage! Anyone in a guitar store has heard people mess this up, horribly at times.

Yes I did notice that. And it has bothered me for YEARS. Thank you for explaining this because I didn't know WHY it was wrong. I just knew it was and it bothered me

I always thought that was screwed up. When that movie came out I had been playing guitar for 16 year and of course knew how to play Stairway to Heaven, and every time we saw that scene and Always shook my head.

I think it would have been better to record mike Myers saying "not paying for that.."

The moral of the story? Paramount Pictures was unwilling to spend a tiny fraction of the enormous profits earned by this film. Hollywood sucks even more today.

This is at a place called "Cassell's Music" which is a local music shop I still support to this day! It's in Sylmar and they still have teh guitar and the sign too! go support!!!

I always wondered about this. Thanks.

I used to go to that store, Cassell's Music, for lessons in the early 80s. That sign was there even then lol. I miss going there.

I've always wondered! As a teenage guitarist watching this movie for the first time, i instantly thought..."hmm, those aren't the notes - i don't get it" it all makes sense now ha

I saw Wayne's World in the theaters and this change always bugged the crap out of me. I'm glad they finaly changed it back
@donaldgilbreath42005 ай бұрын
That's cool. I never noticed, even though I saw the theatrical version and the vhs.

The original song was 8 minutes long so that's $24,000,000 to play the whole song. 😂

Oh, my god, I'm so glad you brought this out to be public knowledge, What's Wayne's World?

Well that explains a lot... lots of musicians in my family and we all where confused by that at the time.

The same happened to WKRP in Cincinnati. When the series was released on DVD, they had to go back and negotiate with all the artists whose music was featured in the show. So some songs were replaced the same way. The Eagles and Pink Floyd were asking for too much.

Did they know about The FAIR USE POLICY which allows anyone to use parts of a song as long as it's under a certain amount of time

I always wondered that. I thought the same as you. I was saying to myself, thats a bad take on it Wayne!! Thanks for clearing that up.

.Had to be a bunch of lawyers involved in on that issue. I remember at time thinking that riff was not recognizable as STH.

i always thought of it as a forth wall break joke, like the clerk represents warner music so his playing was censored cause of it

This movie molded my entire life. I've probably seen it 400 times. But I've never seen a version where Mike actually plays the right notes
@yetanotheruser19895 ай бұрын
I think it makes it funnier tbh. It's been played wrong on various levels by many people in that guitar store.. it's a natural reaction of the clerk to stop anything that even sounds remotely like STH. Wayne was maybe gonna play something else, or maybe the strings were out of tune.. but the reaction from the clerk, and the sign on the wall still prompted the WTF reaction from Wayne.

The copyright issue for any secondary market (video, TV broadcast, or syndication) is moronic. Especially in the era of knowing whatever movie/TV show the music is used in will go to video or be replayed on TV. So anything since maybe the 80s, and for sure the 90s should be as it originally was - and copyrights holders have no claim on it.
