I wish he would have mentioned what songs they had when they signed to Fantasy. They'd been recording there since 1964. Porterville should have been a hit.

I love Stu Cook's production on Roky Erickson's "I Think Of Demons", and that whole album, circa 1980-1981, classic stuff.

I still think if you put all the rubbish aside of what happened internally with the band, listen to the rhythm section, each had their distinctive sound, especially Doug Clifford. His unique drum sound can be recognised as soon as you hear him play. Put those three together along with John Fogherty's brilliant song writing and guitar playing, there you have 'CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL'. As far as the Madi Gras album is concerned, I actually liked Door to Door and Tearin' up the Country, the 'B' sides of the singles. Maybe not mind blowing hits, still catchy songs none the less.

No doubt John was the vision but like you I always celebrate Stu and Doug and Tom, it was the four of them who recorded and performed it and they art the only four people in the world who can say that.

There’s one song in particular where someone other than John is singing (possibly Stu) and I was very impressed with his voice. And you could also understand the words much better than from John. Not to criticize John.

Stu and Doug killed the goose that laid the golden egg. I had a friend who was like them. He demanded a bigger role but wasn't cut out for it. I had to cut him loose. He hasn't done well since then.

No doubt Mardi Gras was bad and his and cosmos songs are awful I don’t think there is a debate there between who is the songwriter and leader of group
