I met Tom in 1970. He was a kind and good man. He was part of Creedence. It is a tribute to John that he covers John's song. Creedence was complete with him on rhythm guitar. But Creedence would never have been as successful as Tom Fogerty and the Blue Velvets or the Golliwogs until John's unique voice and composition of Susie Q, and the creative genius of Proud Mary and the run of top 10 hits that give CCR lasting power. But I will always see Tom in my recollection of that great music.

John Fogerty didn't compose Susie Q. Rolling Stones didn't compose it either, but they did it in 1964.

Tom Fogerty is a really good musician. People always compare him to his more talentend brother John (and obviously there's no comparison) rather than enjoying his talent.

Tom had been an indispensable member of CCR. There's no doubt. The band lost its magic after he had left it.

It’s so sad that the two brothers were unable to reconcile, it’s a tragic event for John Fogerty to have to live with, I know artist more often than not express their feelings through songs, I’ve pondered if he ever wrote with regard to his brother and the band. I would love to hear John write more close to home songs, he has throughout his career.

Saludos

Brothers fight, it’s a given. To bad John & Tom couldn’t have made up before Tom died. If they had made up, I believe strongly that Tom would have rejoined the band. I wonder what their future music would have sounded like if Tom rejoined? AWESOME!!

@@davidkirkham6497 after more than 55 years of Credence Clearwater Revival, you should have read how John’s big head edged out Tom as leader of the group. If you don’t know their history by now, maybe you shouldn’t be commenting on them. Do some homework. 😀

@@MichaelSSmith-hs5pw Your the 1 who should be checking out history on Creedence Clearwater Revival! John did not edge out Tom Fogerty! It was John Fogerty’s band all along! John, Doug and Stu Cook took Tom on as a singer as they(John, Doug, Stu were an instrumental band in the early years! Yes, Tom Fogerty was the original singer when they were the Blue Velvets, Gollywogs etc. However, in or around 1967, John Fogerty took over the singing as John was a much superior singer as compared to Tom! At the same time John Fogerty wrote all the songs 4 the band as he was a superior songwriter to any of the other 3 bandmates! John Fogerty took them from “garage band” status to arguably one of the best roots based R&R bands in history! The “ego” that you are referring to is called talent!

Lodi is my favorite Creedence song and, sure, this rendition by Tom without CCR is nice, but it just makes me a little sad thinking about what the band could've been without all the infighting, Tom's departure, the breakup, or the complicated legal battles, some of which lasted decades after the breakup, that only made the 3 surviving members more bitter towards each other.

As far as a musical artist, Tom wouldn’t make a pimple on John’s ass, but I have to say, it takes a lot of balls to sing your talented brothers songs like Lodi in good conscience after taking sides with John’s arch enemy Saul Zaentz, saying he’s my best friend and taking part in screwing John over!😡

John had them at their peak, they were competing and coming in #2 to the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, had the other band mates not become jealous, the band could have another 3-4 very successful albums and maybe that coveted #1 hit.
