Pro tip: When framing a wall with a door, leave the sill plate in place across the door span until after the wall is stood up and secured in place. It ensures the bottom of both sides of the door are in line, and makes it easier to keep the door spacing as designed. @12:47

@@rahrah5091 Same. I was routing out metal for aircraft wing parts. I had on safety glasses with the side shields and a full face shield. Metal slivers bounced off the plastic apron I was wearing, hit the inside of the face shield, bounced behind my eye glasses, off the inside of the eye glasses, and into my eye. It took a couple of hours to get all the slivers out. Quick tip guys. Leave your bottom plate in place so that the door opening is connected at the bottom with the plate- one solid run of both the top and bottom plate. Then when you put the wall in place you KNOW it’s straight and it’s not a pain to move, then when the wall is nailed to the subfloor just use your sawzall and cut the unneeded piece of 2x4 flush with your rough opening vertical 2x4s. So much faster and more accurate…and not a pain in the…to maneuver into place.

16:12 when you are framing a ton of walls making a jig to get your spacing saves a bunch of time and makes things a lot easier. Also watch where you place your hand when shooting your nails in. If you miss the stud or hit a knot the nail could shoot out and hit your hand.
@SkippyDa2 ай бұрын
Yeah, having a spacer that you can just put in between the beams is a big help already.
@tetedur3772 ай бұрын
I had the same thought about the nailer. Also, I rough framed houses; can confirm the jigs make things easier, but that comes with time and experience, and working with more experienced builders.
@jonathansage21472 ай бұрын
Careful with using jigs for spacing the same members in a row. You can end up with compounding error at the far side from where you start. I really encourage you to layout with a tape measure instead, even if it feels slower.

You remind me of myself as non qualified person who completed a major house extension, concrete swimming pool build with a walkout beach area and a waterfall at the deep end , workshop build with a car hoist, bricklaying, floor tile laying throughout the house with new tiles, wooden floor laying, plastering, paving, painting, bathroom fittouts to 3 x bathrooms, laundery make-over, large outdoor wooden deck with pitched roof, a 2nd kitchen build as a dedicated commercial kitchen (for my wife who is a chef), double garage fittout to a high standard, retic instal, fake grass instal and more all on my own and all Council approved as an owner builder projects. I only used qualified tradesmen for plumbing, electrical, gas fitting, concrete pouring, glass instal of windows (i installed all the alloy frames) I saved us a small fortune in the process and now we have a 5 bed/3 bath split level home with a Bali style backyard on a 1,200sq m block (over a qtr acre) which has since tripled in value since i completed all the work pre-covid. @Jenna Phipps and Nick Just a tip for using Forstner bits. 1. Don't attempt to drill through metal as they arnt hard enough to cut metal. 2. Don't ever force a forster bit while using. Less force is more effective. It'll naturally start to cut on its own with light to moderate force. 3. Check the maximum rated rpm and adjust your drill speed to ensure you don't exceed it. This will help them last lomger.
