Agreed .. I think that a lot of brands rely on influencers that only reach a limited age-group .. they forget about their long-standing customers .. for Bobbi Brown to do a 'Powerpuff Girls' collab was just plain 'gimmicky' .. but then again I am so so OVER Bobbi Brown now. It is too expensive in comparison to some of the amazing quality 'drugstore' products available .. like ELF .. they are really giving the big brands a run for their money .. and good on them! I am 53 and over the last year I have found THE most incredible skincare and make-up products at Boots/Drugstores .. and I am really enjoying the experience of choosing anything that goes!!! I am loving make-up at the moment!!!

For me their mistep is being less luxurious with their packaging. Their bronzer has this gorgeous art deco imprint on the case, as does some of their longer eyeshadow palettes, which I love, but some of their other products look far cheaper by comparison. I bought their powder and the packaging is just flat with a line drawn down the middle and her logo. The original lipstick bullets have a classic vintage look, but they seem to be moving away from that, mainly releasing glosses recently, or lipstick in less classic packaging. I love the lipstick shade Glowing Jen but I hate the leopard print tube. For me personally I want products that look beautiful and classic sitting on my vanity and not many brands offer that, so I keep going back to CT. However, if they move away from that look I'll stop buying.

@@annaf4720 you make a great point! I noticed the packaging inconsistency while working at Sephora. Some of CT’s packaging looks so luxe and beautiful and others are just cheap brown plastic and it cheapens the overall vibe of the brand when packaging efforts aren’t cohesive. I also hate the leopard print on some of her lipsticks!

I honestly think makeup in general is running out of ideas. There are only so many colour combos, palettes, formulations, and so on that you can actually do. When I go through the makeup section in drugstores and even in Sephora it just doesn't look very "new" to me... I feel like I've seen a lot of this stuff before.
@newcamomile
@newcamomile 8 ай бұрын
I agree but I think formulation is probably the area they can still innovate more in. Also so many brands STILL have such lacklustre shade ranges - often face makeup that isn't foundation is stuck with limited shades even if they make more foundation shades. There's no point in making foundation for Black women if all your blushes and highlighters make Black women look ashy!
@artaleasham4105
@artaleasham4105 8 ай бұрын
Yeah this. Eventually the options empty out unless someone comes with a new unique idea. And that probably has been tried before but with a different packaging. I can't complain though. My favorites are browns/nudes/neutrals, etc. I'm boring to most of the community. Maybe we should be.... happy with what we have, and just enjoy. Eventually something new to hype on will come along the way. It will just take a while.

Maybe Look into other coulors as a base. The majority of humans have a light to Medium brownisch skin coulors. So obv. this is the Market and the majority of products will target the majority of the Market. On the other Hand really white people and really black people can not use the same coulors. (Or You can but it looks horrible) our skin coulors determines what coulors look good on us and what not. Ideally you used your teens to try out some coulors so you know what looks good otherwise get into ballett, theaterical Makeup and look at YOUR Face. How is your structure, what is your actual skin coulors? How do you want to Look? Nice and girly? Bold and assertive? Professional and Natural? Sexy and vamp? Depending on how you actually look and how you want to Look you need different coulors of Blush. Makeup is painting and If your technique is good and have the knowledge the painting will be beautiful even if you don't have the ideal coulors. This also applies to eysshadow. Black is Not black depending on the different bases. The same black eyeshadow will Look different depending on the skin coulor underneath. Do Not rely to much in Influencer that might have a similar skin coulors to yours (lighting just changes way to much). Become a Teen again and Just spend some time at Our drug Stores and try. It took me years to collect a basic makeup collection and learn what works for my face and I'm still mixing my foundation because my skin coulor just isn't available.

Chanel is awful. I had a wedding make up trial with Chanel make up and it was not up to the job. But also, in the early 90s when they launched Rouge Noir nail varnish, there was no way I was going to get my hands on one as there was a waiting list, so I bought a Rimmel dupe while I waited for it to be more available. When I finally got one I was so disappointed. I tried it with undercoat, top coat, thin layers, all possible ways. It chipped pretty much immediately whatever I did. I love the colour and still use the Rimmel shade to this day. I’m always disappointed because I’ve been obsessed with Chanel since I was a teenager in the 80s.

Lots of people wear makeup esp to work and special occasions because it's expected and they just want something reliable, not because they're really into makeup. I agree that the Powerpuff collab makes no sense, it's just a strange choice for a brand mostly aimed at older women. I can think of so many collabs they could have done - Rifle Paper Co, Laura Ashley, Radley, even a more 'classic' pop culture IP like the Moomins or Miffy.

Drug Store brands are doing the same thing but at least that stuff is less expensive and if their skin care products suck youre out less money!

I used to love love LOVE little sets that Benefit used to do. There was an eye set that had a concealer, lemon-aid, and a pink colour corrector and i used the whole thing to the bottom of the pan. Could never justify buying full size products. And now... well i do buy their miniatures once in a while, as they are cute and get the job done and i would never finish using a full size product.

Clinique. As a teenager, I became a die-hard Clinique user and was loyal to the brand for years, but they developed a habit of discontinuing products that I loved, replacing them with more expensive productus I didn't love, and just failed to really be innovative. They claim that Black Honey Almost Lipstick is "iconic", but I look around at even drugstore brands and see that I can buy a nearly identical product for a fraction of the price from at least three other manufacturers. They're just tired and sleepy now. Bare Minerals is another one. I was blown away when their powder foundation first came out and snatched it up as quickly as I could get my hands on it. Now... *yawn*. Their formulas don't work on many skin types and a lot of their products are just very aging and dare I say...boring.

Yeah, Clinique skincare and cleansers absolutely rule, but the makeup is just eh. It seemed like they had it going with their silver lipsticks at one point but that kinda stalled. I really appreciate Fenty’s slow releasing. Not everyone likes to try new products every time, most people have a small collection of products they use every day and stay loyal to, which is what many Fenty products are. Brands that keep pushing out stuff without soul - take ABH for instance - lose their “premium” factor to me and just start to feel low effort.

When you mentioned Benefit doing their vintage/pin-up aesthetic differently, I immediately thought of Soap & Glory before you even said it. I think Soap & Glory balances the aesthetic nicely with bolder colors (making pink and black the main instead of silver) and fonts, and a bit more playful vibe. Soap & Glory is just more 'fun' with it, I think. I also haven't seen much of Hourglass recently, and it used to be HUGE for a while??? I really did like their highlighter for a softer glow. So many luxury brands are not cruelty free, mostly because they still choose to sell in China. That position is indefensible, especially when so many indie companies are managing to be cruelty free and still turn a profit. I honestly was thinking of Colourpop at first, but I've been really glad in the last 6 months or so that they've taken a step back with the constant releases and collabs, and instead when they have released something it seems to be along the lines of reformulating or repackaging. They make some really incredible products but I got sick to DEATH of them doing a collab with every single possible Disney franchise when all I really wanted was an extension of their shade ranges on their already existing formula with their regular packaging. I might be alone in that desire but I really hope that their future releases will be just that!

2 or 3 years ago I ordered an absolute haul from tarte because there were great holiday deals. I have to say it turned me off of tarte entirely. The first and most glaring thing to me was the cheap and visual unappeal of the components themselves. You could get a more polished compact from Revlon or Cover Girl. They applied stickers to the mini shadow pallets off-center. The lipstick tube components felt light and cheap. The shadows were hit and miss but one of them was a bright rainbow assortment and I was shocked at how hard they were to get color payoff with. When I was a teen in Saphora, tarte was a magical brand to me. As an adult it's a waste of money.

I am so glad SOMEONE is saying this! Designer brand cosmetics have ridden on their names for way too long, and have been sleeping on the fact that new brands, and a lot of indie brands have crept up behind them and stolen their thunder on the trends and quality (especially on eyeshadows), and there a lot more affordable options for concealer, highlighter, blush and lip products at a fraction of the designer prices. The only spot where I have not been able to get away from designer product is foundation, dammit. Tom Ford, Guerlain, and Chanel make the best foundation for my old, very dry and sensitive skin, and I have not been able to find a cheaper alternative that works as well (I won't bore you with the list of what I've tried in the alternative). And CT has made nothing but peach, bronze and beige products for years and only this year has started making truly pink blushes etc. So, you've ignored us pink girls, it's time for us to ignore you.

I actually love that bronzer, I use it all the time and it’s the best color match for me out of all my other ones 😊

I feel like I prefer the brands that are “tried and true, if boring” over the constant new releases and crazy new makeup that I have to figure out how to use. I’m not a big novelty/trendy person, so while I do experiment at times, I much prefer the classics to the latest trend. Personal opinion. I also HATE loathe and despise when things are discontinued. So give me Bobbi Brown or Charlotte Tilbury where I know I’ll be able to get my beloved lip liner or eye palette forever and ever amen, and you can take your trendy brand that releases new makeup so frequently that they discontinue concealers, blushes, etc that I fall in love with and then I’m screwed a year or two later
