I.E Cornish Pasties have to only contain ingredients grown in Cornwall Devon Custard has to have milk from Devon etc etc I'm not sure how many are protected in the US beyond Cornish Pasties we in the UK have protected status on some US foods as rare as they are to find Idaho potatoes have to come from Idaho in the UK. Good video guys! i love most of the things you tried & i love Revels because i like all the flavours so it's nice to have a mixture. If you try to make a toad in the hole ( it's just British sausages in a batter mix like a large yorkshire pudding ) try to find British sausages and have onion gravy with it otherwise it will be to dry. When i have it it is with cheesy mash and onion gravy poured all over, yum. Maltesers are pronounced Malt teasers and Devon is more like Devun.

Toad in the Hole for 2 people Ingredients 4 Good quality (bangers) sausages. 1/4 pint semi skimmed milk 2 eggs 2oz plain flour (not self raising) oil Method STEP 1 Pre cook veg. I do new potatoes, carrots and peas. Place in pyrex bowl, cover with cling film, and bring in the microwave oven to wait! STEP 2 Pour 1/4 pint of milk into a jug. Add two eggs and whisk. Put 2oz of plain (not self rasing) flour in a bowl, add the whisked eggs and milk, and whisk well for a couple of minutes. Pour back into the jug and place on one side. STEP 3 Heat oven to 200/180 fan. Cover base of 10 inch square baking tray with drizzle of oil. Put in oven - middle shelf to heat. STEP 4 When up to temperature (SMOKING HOT) slide out tray, put sausages in, and toss them about. Then into oven - but only for a couple of minutes. STEP 5 Now give the mix in the jug a final whisk. Slide out baking tray, position sausages to keep them separate, then gently pour in the batter mix. Return to oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Keep an eye on them, and when ready give the veg a blast in the microwave, and make some onion gravy.

JT If you want to make toad in the hole at home well, it can come with a science lesson and a health warning. I am from Yorkshire and have been making all types of Yorkshires for about 45 years, using bun/muffin tins, 1lb loaf tins, 12" by 36" trays etc. both domestically and commercially. First of all make your Yorkshire pudding batter a few hours before you cook it, as this allows the flour grains to swell and absorb the milk and eggs mixture (If you want a lighter yorkshire use about 20% water instead of the milk) leave the mixture in the microwave or cover the bowl with a tea towel this allows the mixture to come to room temperature and reduces the temperature difference between the hot fat and the batter. Please take note the reason I use this whole cooking method is that some domestic ovens do not give a consistent enough heat throughout the oven or reach a high enough temperature to fully cook the bottom (leaving you with a soggy bottom and nobody wants a soggy bottom). I put about 75g of beef fat (dripping) in a 2" deep sealed (not springform) cake tray about 6"x9" a cast iron is best but I don't have one.I put the oven on to preheat at gas 8 and then strart heating the tray on the stove top on a medium heat, making sure that all the areas of the tray are heated evenly (If you leave just the centre of the cake pan over the heat you can permanently warp the tray, it will dome up in the centre). I then add the sausages and start shallow frying them until lightly brown. I then space the sausages evenly in the pan, turn the hob to high heat until the fat is starting to smoke and then add the batter mixture in the centre first and continuing until all the areas of the pan are filled as quickly as possible without displacing the sausages too much(you can quickly reposition any that have moved too far). Finally I put the tray on the top shelf of the oven for 40 ish minutes until the yorkshire has at least set in the middle if it has not risen you may have to foil the outside to prevent it burning. WARNINGS the high heat of the fat can be dangerous, especially when cooking the sausages and adding the batter (Don't open the oven door before at least 20 minutes preferably 30 if you need to turn it, as the Yorkshire may collapse and end up being sad and heavy)

Indian Curry is mainly a dish that uses the ground up seeds of the Cilantro plant (called Coriander) as a strong flavoring to mask the typically lower quality of meat available in India. As you can tell, the word coriander is similar to curry. Modern Indian restaurants do not use low quality meat, but because of their experience in masking said lower quality meat they are experts at combining spices with coriander and creating a vast assortment of dishes. Most english people I've met have said they prefer Indian curries to chinese, mexican, thai etc Edit: Though as others have posted, chip shop curry is closer to a Chinese curry than an Indian one.
@michaelcaffery50389 ай бұрын
I don't think coriander is any better than other spices for covering up the taste of bad meat. It is one of the most common spices in Indian food. The similarity of the words coriander and curry is coincidental. Coriander comes from the greek, while curry comes from the cooking utensil karhai, often pronounced 'ka-rai' rhyming with high.
@cascade17889 ай бұрын
@@michaelcaffery5038 Ty for correcting me, I had just connected those words myself so that does make far more sense. I also agree that coriander isn't any better than other spices for covering the taste of bad meat, but it is the predominant ingredient in the majority of curries and it does the job well enough because it has a strong flavour.

When you do toad in hole you have to make sure you have British beef gravy on it (Bisto gravy granuals) and mashed potatoes. Just make sure you do some research before on how to make Yorkshire puddings and you will be just fine. One of my favourite meals. Good look

Hiya folks if you're not a fan of custard you could try adding a little strawberry, raspberry or blackcurrant jam (jelly) it makes a huge difference to the flavour.
@marydavis52349 ай бұрын
We don’t have black currant jam in the US.

lol that was so funny! It's just a serving suggestion on the packaging. the custard you have to do separately. Better to have the custard hot though, but that devon custard has always been my favourite

14:55 The relevant words here are "Serving Suggestion" - this translates as "We are not giving you everything in this picture, but the missing items might be a good idea."

Etymology. "Spotted" is a reference to the dried fruit in the pudding (which resemble spots). "Dick" and "dog" were dialectal terms widely used for pudding, from the same etymology as "dough" (i.e., the modern equivalent name would be "spotted pudding").

19:20 if you do try a toad in the hole, please make sure you use good pork sausages, get the batter correct and make an onion gravy to finish it off.

I’ve the best Yorkshire pudding recipe for your toad in the hole let me know it never fails! Crack two eggs and keep your measurements from them eggs no need for measuring everything so if the eggs fill a cup get a cup of flour then a cup of milk with a little water and a pinch of salt mix and leave for at least an hour done but make sure the fat is hot before your mix is added for cooking!
