It feels like a large fraction of people fundamentally never understood the conceit of the perfect clone. I never understood how people didn't get that Beth's attitude would change after the decision was made because she would know it had been made. Only the anxiety of the idea she was the clone(and her realising that would make dad kil her) brought back bad feelings.

A lot of people assume Beth from the opening is “ real beth “ however in an older promo for Rick and morty the two Crash into the Simpsons house effectively killing all the members. Rich scoops them up on a vile sending morty to another world to get them cloned. They come back looking looking like mixed creatures of Rick, which then prompts Rick to say “ morty remind me not to clean the viles - with your spit “ This has always segmented with me that space Beth is the clone from the blue hair streak.

It's possible, Space Beth also has a phycology closer to Rick's as she barley cares for her family and is 100x more selfish...this could be a result of her dna mixing even more with Rick's through his spit cleaning...who knows though cause, Earth Beth also did relax more after Space Beth would have left, we saw this when her and Summer went shopping and she was cool with her dressing in short shorts and crop top and Summer said "you changed"...hard to say really

Rick is only shitty because he didn't need to clone her but he did and saw no problem with not even knowing which was which. Beth didn't need to be cloned, she was going through a change in her life that he didn't have answers to but she didn't need to be cloned. But he offered and did it anyway. When he saw he didn't even know which was which because he never even looked and it was random he realized just how much his intrinsic values are fucked up. He may love Beth but theres this part of him that tries so hard to bury the emotions that he does have for any of them down because there are 'so many of them' and he technically doesn't need to stay with this family. But he still feels guilty. He did this to stop a part of his guilt about not knowing what to tell her and the fact that he did it anyway.

To be fair, I don't think we're necessarily supposed to think Space Beth is this ultimate awesome badass that we completely love - part of the point is that we can see why Rick finds her "punk rock rebel hero" vibe to be tiresome and played-out. I think the real purpose of her character is simply to show how Beth has all these unexplored desires and wishes for herself and her life, far beyond her identity as a suburban mom - and to give us a taste of what it might look like if she truly decided to explore those desires instead. So Space Beth isn't necessarily meant to be "better" than Original Beth - just different.

I gotta recommend two shows. Solar Opposites, which is a Rick and Morty typa show from the same creators. Just a bunch of sci-fi bs, but sooo goood. Then Kipo is a dreamworks show that released a few years ago. Really sweet and creative show. You guys should watch them even if you don’t react to them.

The whole clone beth situation always bothered me because Beth herself told Rick to clone her. Then when he does exactly that, suddenly its such a bad thing? It seemed like they really wanted this character development for Rick, but forgot who was the one that set it up

Rick is the one who brought up the possibility of cloning Beth to begin with, and when she asked *him* to decide whether she leaves or stays, he's the one who decided to clone her and send one to space (without knowing which one was the real Beth, presumably to spare himself the guilt if the *real* Beth ended up miserable or dead while the clone had a happier life as a result of his decision). That's pretty solidly on Rick.
