I don't see how that would make for better content. In my opinion, building a home isnt very exciting because it follows the same basic steps: forming the foundation, framing and then putting up the roof trusses. The actual content might be more interesting when they're laying out where things will go or dealing with a unique challenge during inspections or permits. That said, the value of the content isn't so much in what they do but in how it's edited and presented. Showing what they're doing isn't as significant because the real draw is their personalities and how they interact. In the end, they can do almost anything and their personality will make it entertaining.

Having had skeptic systems for well over 30 years, its best to have risers with lids up to and level with the ground so you know where the access is and it has easy access. You can just sit a plastic one over the concrete lid but leave the concrete lid in place, just get one large enough so you can open the top and see the concrete lid below and lift it open if need be for easy cleaning and inspection. Saves a ton of time digging and trying to guess where it is. I have one over each of my three lids but mine is an aerobic system. You can even use the black plastic corrugated drain pipe cut to the correct height and put a concrete lid over that even with the ground as your riser.

As an initial owner of early 20th century carriage house, previously a stone farm equipment storage site, separate from the main house, you made the right decision to tear it down. Where I was lucky was that I only had to demo the innards on both floors. My dad on first inspection joked that the house would probably survive a nuclear blast, with the walls being two feet thick. Cograts and have fun rebuilding/remodeling/adding to your house to your specs & taste, I did.

Awesomesauce video guys!! Small educational lesson. If you look on the thermometer glass, there is a small etch/scratch on it. That is the freezing mark. You align that to 32°F for the thermometer to read correctly. At the factory, all the bulbs are placed in a controlled environment, then get marked at freezing 🥶. Caffeinator out.

Hi. Here in Wisconsin we now have septic inspections every 3 years. I got tired of digging the lid up so we installed a riser ring. Now the cover is above ground with a lock on it. No problems with freezing.

Lots of fun being had doing stuff not done before. Much envy from here. A suggestion about holding up fabric would be propping a stick instead of drilling holes in membrane. A stick can stay or easily be pulled out of aggregate.

We were required to have ours pumped when we got a new mobile home. The old one had been in use for 20+ years and the guy pumping it said it really didn't need pumping - except that the building code required it. When used properly, a septic tank works quite efficiently.

Nice demo. Rylie I took down a single wide mobile home with the winch on my polaris 800 4 wheeler. I had to implode it on itself because it had a roof over the trailer and a carport 24' wide on the other side . One roof covering it all . Posts cemented in the ground by trailer to support roof and partial cement walls and stick frame on other side of carport. Yes 1/2 inch insulation in the walls 2x2 studs and trusses. My trusses were open no plywood or anything attached to them. The frame cut easily with a sawsall

I think it is best to get rid of that basement and start anew with a solid foundation using concrete. I would make the concrete area a bit bigger, so it fits two cars and has a power room(for solar), workshop/storage area and a ramp or stairs to get to the house. On the house part on top of the concrete do like what you have done in your house property and put solar on a ground mount or in the rooftop or both. I'm excited about this project! You may already have your plans mostly done, but just giving ideas.

I recommend placing a boulder or something directly above where the septic lids. Makes life much easier when having it pumped. Or can just put risers on with a second lid above ground

We put a birdbath over top of where the lid is for ours. Not the optimum spot for bird watching, but we have a second one near the bird feeders. Win-win for the birds!

Every time I have had to dig up the lids for a septic take I add risers. I refuse to dig it twice. I am amazed they aren't added at installation time. What a time saver and keeps the yard nice.

Check any mobile home from that time. They are all build cheaply. 2x2 walls kept the weight down for travel over the roads. You have to remember trailers were made for cheap housing

After time mold and termites tear them down. Container homes are my choice. Especially a 53 footer they build and deliver. So far Bobs container has my vote to replace my trailer. Lot's of reasons. They are efficient, reasonable and more than one can be connected for more home space. What do you think?

thats how we rolled in the 20th century. cheap houses but no huge mortgage. i bought a single wide in the early 90's because condo prices were too high for me. i was able to save up and buy a real house later on. Start small and build slowly was what worked for me

Well done on the demo. It was obvious that you have not worked on many older mobile homes. Many of the singlewides from the 1960's were only 2x2's (that being 1½x1½) and no actual trusses since they had curved roofs. Yours was well built compared to many I have worked on. Looking forward to seeing what you build.

Save your self some money and only carry the metal/vinyl siding and drywall and carpet and tile and fixtures ( crappy tubs and toilets) to landfill and separate out wood framing out to burn on site. This will take at least twice as much time but can save you thousands of dollars on landfill disposal fees that are charged by weight. Also if you have a week or two of forecasted dry weather let the damp insulation materials dry out in a pile in the yard so you don't pay a fortune to dispose of water.

I would replace the whole water supply line(the old/crapy construction probably worked itself there too); go with all new plumbing everywhere in house. Pump out the septic tank, and pressure wash inside. Can you build a trailer dump into the septic tank? For RV. Look at a 2 story house with a basement (expansion). Keep the basement for shop stuff, main level, living room, kitchen, 1 bed room. top floor bedrooms. Also on main floor build a porch around the house with screens. Design you house with air flow through it for cooler days. 2x6 wall min or a double 2 x 4 wall (8-10inches). Upgrade electrical to 200 amps or put in your famous solar set up. For the basement look at increasing it to 10 feet. Just more options for future shop. Or a root cellar on side of house. And you might want to dig around the perimeter of the basement for the foundation water protection of your cement. Also put in a perimeter drain if there isn't one. The the thing you need the most is a outside BBQ area!!

That was fun to watch! I would take out the subfloor too. Start fresh with the foundation only, and in reality - I doubt the existing foundation will pass inspection. I think current local building code is going to require a updated subfloor and foundation. It will probably be less expensive to replace it as opposed to updating the subfloor or foundation.

There’s no header because that’s not a load bering wall. But, everything, and I mean everything, is built “less” on a mobile home. 1/4” drywall, no sheathing, 2x3 finger jointed studs etc. Its a camper, just bigger.

On emptying s water heater....... Completely remove the gate valve and replace n with a ball valve. Every 3 to 6 months attach hose and rinse tank for 15 minutes or so. Keeps build up at bottom of tank to a minimum. Ball valve allows higher flow to rinse tank more completely.

You should have used a saws-all to cut the walls into slabs. Also checked for anchor bolts holding the Double-Wide to the cinder-block foundation. Also, strip all the aluminum siding first and put it into one single load to haul, put all the wood in giant pile out in the woods and torch it. The scrap aluminum would have paid for the cost of the demo.

Last week I said you had other projects going I The background. Double check the construction of the floor before you build. 1970's mobile homes with 2x2 walls also came with week floor construction. Might be better just using the steel framing and build a new floor. exciting to build a practice house you can learn on before you build on your property.

⚠️ please dont keep that floor! It will be cheaply made and stink; it would be putting brand new on rotten foundation. Not to mention the basement had puddles standing in it, so the whole thing needs to be excavated cleaned up, any mold removed. Start from scratch. It will not be worth it to put everything brand new on top of such old mess.

As always a day late, I've "recycled" more than a few old dilapidated mobile homes, most of the time its close to $500-700 in metal, not counting the frame. We used an old wood chipper to grind all plastics wood & insulation, makes one good load to the dump. The frames were sold to a guy that makes flatbed trailers. Two people can do 2 mobile homes a week...nasty dirty work but paid the bills

FWIW Wasps are very different than yellow jackets. The nests are a lot smaller, they are a lot less aggressive, & they don't like to fly when it's cold. Go out first thing in the morning before it warms up, they'll be all huddled together & you can just suck them up with a shop-vac. 😁 Also, most of those spray cans contain petroleum distillates & are highly flammable. Spraying it on a house can be... problematic.

Wow, that tank is right near the surface. Ours here in Filer, Idaho is 56" below grade so it doesn't freeze. We had a riser installed in place of the lid so we don't have to dig a hole to pump it. Mobile homes are the cheapest junk there is for a home.

Clean up is much easier if you knock the structure in on itself instead of pulling everything outside of the structure. This keeps the mess contained to the footprint of the structure and allows you to use the floor to help clean it all up. Keep the floor structure in place as long as possible and destroy it last when everything else is already gone. Literally the technique is to push everything down into the building, and then grab it off the floor. By pulling everything out from the house, you end up dropping debris everywhere that takes much longer to clean up.

Better way to load , park the truck with back end of truck facing house and frontend facing on an angle exit. Good way to save mirrors etc. from falling debris.
