Instead of a coffee table, use a small storage ottoman. You can flip the top over to reveal a coffee table tray. Multi-purpose.

My only suggestion would be - Don't skimp on the sink (you'll regret it) ... not having the space to wash dishes will drive you crazy. Remember, you're going to have more dishes than you ever did in your vehicle homes. Pots and pans are horrific to wash in a tiny sink lol Congratulations and I can't wait to see what you do with the place!

Two words: cardboard mockups. We made our first when trying to decide on a table for our living room (square or round), and it made the decision simple. - Everyone's saying don't skimp on the sink. I say, go ahead, but definitely consider a utility sink outside. If you gotta wash something too bulky, you can take it outside! - Rotate the coffee table? Have it up against the ledge. And depending on what kind of ledge you want to build around that platform you could have a built in that you pull up and pop a leg under. - Judging you a little for having composting toilet beneath your bed. There will be no escaping stinky poops! :O

Looks great guys...the only thing I can think of, from experience, is making SURE you have airflow for your mattress (not laying it on directly on the wood platform, unless you drill "air holes" in it. I made this mistake in Washington State (also rainforest) and it became a sheet of toxic black mold, and once that starts, it is impossible to ever really "fix" the problem, it will get everywhere, and my dog and I got very sick from it. Other than that...can't wait to see how it goes. No stress, enjoy the process!

@marceld6061
@marceld6061 Ай бұрын
High volume extractor fan will create a low pressure indoor environment if the house is sealed too tightly. That can create as many issues as it solves. The low pressure created can actually overwhelm the fans and they just stop moving air. An equal amount of incoming fresh air is required to achieve a balanced system. If you live in a tropical environment, a fan won't make much difference to the indoor humidity. Polynesian homes were grass walled allowing for plenty of ventilation. When settled by missionaries board and batten and bevelled siding were popular. They were 'single wall' (no interior drywall or wood) and the floors were raised allowing for airflow under neath. This was due to material and shipping costs as well as for comfort. They leaked air like sieves but that is what the environment calls for! Find what local traditional building practices are and build from there. Pun not intended.

From someone who has decorated several small apartments: me 😊. You really don’t need to have a coffee table. There are small tables that slide a bit under the sofa (like IKEA’s Olserod which can be even turned sideways to become a coffee table if you would like. In the upper position can be used as a coffee table, eating spot, laptop work site and so much more. You are young people. In decorating, think outside of the box and break with traditional patterns

I agree. I grew up without a coffe table. My mother Scottish, Didnt understand their purpose besides we werent' allowed to eat outside of the kitchen. W had an octagonal table in front and to the side of the end my Dad sat at where he put his ashtray and tea cup! I like convertible furniture. I have a craft sewing building and use vintage gate leg tables. Small foldng tables. I rearrange all the time for teaching or differt types of projects. We have a large coffee table and sofa in main house and never use it except the odd times we have company. Im short so to me leaning over from a large sofa to a low coffee table hurts my back. Id get a lagoon table. Maybe make the top extra special using stained wood etc. but they are youtubers. Id think the workspace and another eating sitting area where you can look out the windows would be great. Maybe not even a sofa unless its supposed to be a bed too? Id do recliners or comfy chiars and chair height tables too.

Turn the couch around to face the window. The back of the couch can definitely be a decorative piece with shallow shelves holding decor items /books and that can be an attractive entry. With the couch in that configuration you will not have the same issues of access with the coffee table and it could be a fold away. A small sink is a pain and you are much more likely to have water splashing around onto bench tops and floor. I would put the appliances on the opposite side, definitely not having the cooktop/stove under that big window. If the cookers are next to a solid wall, you can put a durable surface on that wall that will handle steam emission, heat etc from cooking. A sink also needs a splash back that the window would not sufficiently provide. Also if you cook and wash under that big window you will always be cleaning it.

Everyone has to decide the best layout for their needs and as I live in a hundred year old farmhouse with a big country kitchen I have no experience with tiny home living. We tried having a dishwasher, but went back to hand washing dishes and I must say the view out over the ravine while working at the sink is very calming. Best piece of advice from a tiny home owner: make everything multipurpose. Also, wait to see about the coffee table until AFTER you have the couch in. You’ll get a better perspective about size and shape (coffee tables don’t have to be square/rectangular). You might opt for another option, such as a movable tray that sits on the couch and can be put away when not in use or used in the kitchen. Great idea about stair placement! Hire a carpenter to show you how to build the sofa and the cabinets. You'll be so glad you did. The results will be much more satisfying. Max can show you how (and help) to insulate and finish the walls. Also, you want the biggest, deepest sink you can find (or make) so you can clean or fill a big pot or pan. Or you can hide your dishes until you get around to washing them. You can always put a basin in the sink if you don't want to use a lot of water. I recommend that it be approximately 600-750mm by 400mm by 200 mm deep (24-30"x16"x8"). You can put a wooden board over the opening so that you can use it for prep.

I live in a motorhome and I loooooove using magnet shelves. They are strong and hold really well as well as being major space savers. I use them for bedside tables, for drink holders (or else) around the sofa, for all kind of kitchen stuff. Also major space savers are fold up tables and shelves. For example, if you're worried about the size of the coffee table in the living room, consider putting a fold up table on a wall so you can fold it flat when you don't need it and have all the space you want. For the coffee table, as someone else mentioned, I would wait until the sofa is there to make a decision. Finally, I strongly suggest you make a deck outside the front door and if you can, put a little ceiling above it. You're gonna have mud on your shoes so many times, you'll be fed up with the amount of time you're gonna have to wash your entryway. At least with the deck, you can take everything off there and even leave your shoes out there.

Plan space for every inch you can make for storage! Winter clothing and bedding is not needed in the summer and they other way around. It is not bad that some spots will be empty now, but it is nice to have it on hand than to have to build it on the time it is needed. Would do the sink & food in front of the small window (not so much to see outside, concentrate on the prepping) and work and living space at the big window (more light and the wide open meadow to look at). I am nr. 239th on the size of the sink but listen: bigger is better in this case! A very clever choice on the place of the stairs, out of sight! I have seen so much 'ugly' solutions. Love to see the way you 2 go from this point. Most videos are about finished tiny houses. Now I can finally see it from the ground up.

I have three coffee table suggestions. Option one you need to flip the table by 90° so that the long edge is perpendicular to the stairs. Secondly you could make the couch cushions so you have two rectangles and a small square that fits in the corner. Take the corner cushion out when you want to use the corner space as a coffee table. Third option is to make the coffee table into a rectangular box that you can flip on its end. It’s inevitable you’ll use that platform as a seat, so you might as well utilise it as a dining table seat when you have people over the coffee table becomes a seat for when flipped on its end.One thing about tiny home living is you need to have pieces of furniture that have more than one function. You don’t need a coffee table to put crap on, it’s a tiny home. Yes fly screens. Also Glenn is right about the couch if you make it any narrower it will be useless. Plan out everything first! I would put your sink and prep area by the big window, oven on the otger side. If you have gas you wont be able to open the window because the breeze will blow out the gas. Thats very bad. The prep area at the window becomes a servery.

Instead of a coffee table, make a fold-down table coming off the left wall (left when facing the back window). The fold-down table can have a chalk board on the back so when it's folded up you can write on it, or a lovely piece of art, or... See some other tiny home builds to see how the legs fold down off the table, but when it's folded up you don't see the legs. Change that little step up to the middle of the platform rather than the left edge, so that you can step up around the table when it's down; in other words, you'd be stepping up next to the couch extension and walking around the table. That way, too, you can use the table for dining when you have guests over. You could even use some fold-up bar stools to seat people on the side of the table opposite the couch. I like the way the stairs are in the back of the house! I built my own tiny house from scratch and enjoyed it. You will have fun finishing it up!

Glad you're excited. Word if advice, from someone who knows through experience. That large window is lovely, for now, but it's going to become the most annoying thing in your house once the units are in. You need to sort out a mechanism for closing it, as reaching it manually will become impossible. Our solution was simple... a ring in the center of the bottom of the window frame and a hook on a stick 😊 Otherwise you'll be going outside all the time to shut the bloody thing 😂 Good luck

Space better used for eating bar...work top...prep top...and small window side...sink under small window etc down the line stove/cook top/fridge in back corner...best use of space and leave that beautiful flip up window view unobstructed...hope that makes sense...came from Max and Occy's channel...going to be beautiful!...Love that you've joined the commune collective!

Currently renovating a 1955 single story ranch style home but I get to do a little more than I think you (per Australian law) are allowed to do, but I am also not starting with bare frame which sounds really nice as opposed to bringing down plaster and drywall, rewiring lighting, outlets and switches and building out two bathrooms.... I would put your stove and oven on the same side as the fridge leaving the pop up window clear as a servery and bench on the outside. I would also put in a decent sized sink, bigger home, bigger appliances, especially with an oven. You will regret having a small sink, if you can't fit frying pans and oven pots in it to wash up. As for the coffee table...I get why you would need one as you don't have a dinning table...(I eat from my coffee table always) Why not make it more rectangular, so that it lines up with your step up and take it all the way out to the edge of the platform. Makes more sense to me and doesn't poke out into the step up, will create a more spacious feel. You can always have some pop down shelves from the walls at each end of the couch if more space is needed. Good luck.

Even some books, plants, a lamp/lighting , and home decor! Just see it as an opportunity to get creative and think outside the box.. no pun intended! Hello, I would think from your experience with tiny living, that you all have already thought of this.....But I highly suggest considering a Lagun table mount, instead of a coffee table. You could have a beautiful live edge, or whatever you like for your table top. You can move it around the couch to utilize as you need it. And I believe if you want, you can even take it off & store it away. I just think they are the best, and always wish we would have designed one near our couch in our RV. Plus they dont have to take up floor space...... I subscibed to your channel because we love Max & Occy and we saw you guys on his channel. Plus, we have been full time RVers for the past 6 years (in the states), in our rather large remodeled 5th wheel. With everyone commenting on the sink - I do agree about not going too small (like bar sink size), but as a single person living in a tiny house who does a fair bit of cooking, a sink that's around 24 inches wide works well if you are still wanting to stay on the smaller side, but still have enough room for washing big pots and pans. And then covering with a cutting board works well. If prep space still won't be enough, there's always the option of having a pull out extension for more counter space or have a small countertop on something that rolls out from under the counter. When I moved into my tiny house the previous owner had it set up with a bar sink and I thought it wouldn't be too bad to deal with while renovating, but it was way too small for anyone doing a decent amount of cooking. Not worth it to deal with that when you are only saving a few inches compared to a 24 inch one. I think 24 -30 inches is the sweet spot for sinks in a tiny house where counter space is important to you. I've seen people do tables that are essentially their floor being lifted up to be the table and then lower it back down when not in use. That might be something to consider for the coffee table dilemma if you aren't wanting it there all of the time. But if looking for storage as a function for it, I'm sure you'll come up with something or find something. There's the option of making it a smaller square and having flip up sides for when you want it larger. I'm sure you'll find something that works for the space. Honestly for my journey renovating a tiny house - living in it and not rushing things and setting up makeshift things to test out the setup ideas I'm thinking about has been incredibly helpful. Sooooooooo many of the things I planned to do at first have changed after testing things out and seeing I don't like the setup a certain way, finding a better way to do things, or finding that what I thought was sufficient originally really needed some adjustments. Living in a space for a year will show you sooooo many things you want to do different compared to the thoughts you have at the start. It's really interesting. But I know that's not always possible. But definitely whenever possible, set up something to test things out with your setup so you can get a feel for things to make sure it's what you want. You've got this. I'm excited to see your process and see how things evolve.

Having had a coffee table with a dog {Labrador), I'd suggest having a 4 inch (100mm) shelf around the sofa (couch) to put drinks on. I've had 2 coffee tables in the garage for 20 years as I keep getting dogs with tails - very little stays on a coffee table when you have an excited dog! Unless you make the height of the coffee table higher than the dog ... Good luck with all the decisions - remember you can change a lot of things later - just don't glue too much and the amount of mess when you change things is much less Is the first stage adding insulation and wall coverings - that will close in the space (and make it a bit less daunting) and give you more time to get used to the space Then do the parts that you are agreed on / places like the bathroom and bedroom where there isn't a lot of options for where things go Enjoy!

The coffee table should have a pedestal, not legs so you don’t stub your toes on it, and rounded corners so you don’t bark your shins. Consider a lagoon base like in a van so you can move it around easily. For the sink, consider the European style of storing your dishes above the sink so when you wash them, they drip dry over the sink, save drying time and no need for a drain board. In the bathroom, allow space for sorting, folding, and hanging clothes right by the washer so you can put all the clean clothes away in tidy batches. I have a hanging rod that slides in and out mounted on the wall next to my washer and it’s invaluable! I can’t wait to see your home come together! Good luck!

My parents have an up and down screen in the kitchen leading out to the verandah. You really don't notice the screen, but it's essential with flies/bugs. Look for a fine mesh screen and see some demonstration models. As for the coffee table, you can buy/make a coffee table that goes flat when not in use. That would save it taking up permanent space and would allow you to put it away under the lounge or under storage.

I think I’d put a narrow shelf around the wall behind the head rest of the lounge. Easy to reach from anywhere on the lounge, and leave an inviting open space in front of the lounge. And for far down the track, can I suggest a coat of green or grey paint on the outside to merge into the rain forest. A roofed deck on one long side of the house will give you more living space, plus allow some separation of building activities from living activities during the build process (sawdust in the corn flakes has limited appeal).

The magnetic strips are flexible and you could roll it up when not needed. You would need to notch the corners of the screen so that they can fold in and attach to the strips. Cut a small square out of each corner same size as the magnetic strip. Hope you get what what I mean. :) Have fun fixing it up. I am sure you will do well.

Have you considered doing a large sink (you can also cover as a counter) on the other wall under the window and have more counter space around your cooking zone as that window wall seems to be VERY active and that would drive me nuts and water next to fire (in feng shui) cancels each out... I would do a small round coffee table if having some sort of built in on the sides or back of couch zone is too uncomfortable meaning in the way and you might hit your head your design material as you were stretching out.... Water on the same side as your fridge is also complimentary (feng shui wise) and you could even do a dishwasher drawer someone else commented regarding... You need space to stack dirty dishes and clean dishes, and be able to stand side by side. Think about putting the stove on the back wall. If you have it near your sink, your rangehood will interfere with your beautiful window, and I think you'll have issues with your proposed fly screen and the heat from the stove. If you put it against the back wall, you can tile behind it (building code/safety) and have your exhaust fan not blocking your window. I've got some experience in designing kitchens. Feel free to dm me if you want to pick my brains for ideas. I also have the solution to your sofa/coffee table dilemma and it's far simpler than you might think 😉 Good luck with your build ❤

For the coffee table, consider two circular nesting tables. Keep them together on the daily, but when you need a little more table space you pull the smaller one out.

Yes!! We are currently thinking of something along the lines of this style with the smaller one nested in it. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Why not have a "pop up" hydraulic coffee table that comes up from underneath or get a round coffee table. You don’t need to have a coffee table in the space all the time. Loving the tiny house, good luck with the build out. ❤

Advice from someone who has done several builds (while working a full time job). Don't get obsessed with reaching the singular destination. Divide your big overall project into a thousand small projects. Just in this video, you have done several small projects. Make each project at the level of quality of which you can be proud. And don't forget to live (and not work 24/7) while you build your future home.

A blank canvas, exciting! Replace the square coffee table with a small round one, it could also have compartments underneath for extra space. You could also have little ledges/shelves build into the walls for a coffee cup etc.

Ottoman that can be used to put your feet up, storage with a solid tray that can be placed on top for cups, glasses etc. Look forward to seeing the finished project. Good luck and happy new year.

THOUGHT: ❤ Have you measured the size of the appliances you want? You don't want them to be oversized for the areas you are wanting especially after you put proper flooring into your space. The tiniest increase will affect your plans. Just a thought. Very excited for you both! I'll be enjoying your process! ❤

Bathroom suggestion… switch the location of the toilet and sink. You will want a counter next to the shower and better room for your arms and elbows. This puts the sink under the window. The mirror could fold out from the wall if needed and you will love looking out the window!! Toilet under the shorter ceiling too is a better use of the space!! Love the space as a new sub (from Max’s channel)!!!

Or get a toilet with a basin built into the top of it, the height of the basin where it is at the moment would potentially end up with many sleepy head bumps! Congratulations and have a great build.

I agree, exactly what I was going to say! Having the sink squashed between two tall cabinets is not ideal.

Congrats on the new digs! As for your sofa, would you consider instead of an L formation, just a straight run along one wall, with a pull out, extension, so the back cushions can be repositioned to create a bed. Then there would be plenty room for a coffee table, and possibly a small chair or ottoman.

Congratulations! Window screens would be my first task. I agree with other posters to use a storage ottoman and an external utility sink. Drawers in the stairs would be a must. Also kick-plate drawers in the kitchen.

So glad you got your delivery of your Tiny home. In the kitchen you absolutely will need a bigger sink then you are allowing space for. Put the stove behind the sink on the other side of the kitchen and let the other whole wall be for prepping food and for the stove and oven only. Or visa versa. Either way need a bigger sink and more space for washing dishes! And same in the bathroom. No room for cabinets just a bigger washer and dryer and bigger vanity on the left as you go in. No need for cabinets on that same wall!! The one cabinet you planned for to the right of the toilet will be enough as long as it it floor to ceiling storage space.

Hi from the US! I found you guys through Max's channel. Instead of a coffee table, you could get two "C" style tables: one for each end of the sofa. You may need to design the sofa a bit to accommodate them, but it would give you more space to move around. Love ❤️ your content! 😊

Yes, I said the same thing! Even one would work nicely, with a couple of options for placement. C-shaped sofa tables are perfect for eating & computer work! I use mine constantly.🧡

The best way to resolve the coffee table is to have a high low pedestal, it can retract down to floor level, you could even have a cushion filler for use as a guest bed.

In other videos I've seen, I think the drawers under the cabinets in kitchen really makes for no wasted space. Really like your idea of stairs in bathroom as no one else needs access to your bedroom. Older lady from america.

Congrats, guys, your new home is absolutely gorgeous! I do think you should reconsider getting a bigger sink though since the both of you like to cook. You can always get a cover for the sink to keep the area functional and not completely lose the space. 🎉

Great to share your new home news….. & a Merry Christmas to u both. Friendly Tip - u may have covered already . Building materials Have spiked 35% to 40% over the past 3 calendar yrs - Bunnings Power Pass offer a home builder trade discount to enjoy . Materials - 2nds can be a $ save - FB often has posts for kitchens & bathrooms - but the time & effort to remove can blow the perceived benefit out the window. IKEA has many on line flat pack kitchens & bathroom components to choose from as u build . Pay particular attention to delivered sealed joins, waterproofing, wrapping, air voids & wall air flow , the selection of wrapping, insulation material & wall lining are suited to local tropical climate You may consider an elevated skillon roof as a stand alone structure harvesting rain water, shadowing tiny home envelope - A little longer and wider than tiny home footprint - benefits are less strain on home’s roof ; improves thermal balance & a stand alone structure with braced posts offers opportunity to carry outdoor decking structure . Lastly Water tanks , politely I suggest go big once only . Cheers & best wishes Gerard

In your floor in the lounge and under your couch you can put floor hatch lids in to access the items under the floor. Think extra long rolling storage boxes under the floor that act like draws. Think back of a pickup or utility vehicle equiped for offroading and camping. Even consider an access hatch from outside the house. Just some ideas for your build. Google storage designs for tiny homes. The Tiny House series gives great examples and ideas.

Just turn your coffee table a quarter turn…. Keeps the width of your stairs clear all the way up to the couch. Looks awesome. Love the bathroom and stairs layout!
