Those wheels are my favourite. I also prefer the earlier DB7 front end than the v12 with the big fog lights.

I have to agree with you re the turbine alloy wheels .....they look fantastic and possibly the most atttractive car wheel of all time!...., BUT ...I have to disagree on the earlier DB7s front end looking better than the facelifted V12 version which i think was a huge improvement and made it look so much more agressive and purposeful (esp with the other touches such as deeper, different grille etc . Clearly Ian Callum also thought so as he carried the same big foglights over into the vanquish.

It's funny: back in the day I preferred this by far to the XK8, but now? Quite the reverse. The DB7 is a bit of a lash up really and £25,000 buys either one really nice 10 year old XKR or two really nice 20 year old ones. A five grand XK8 would have the measure of this as well.

100% on board with your sentiment. I always preferred the DB7 over the XK8 back in the day. For some years, I mulled over the concept of buying a DB7. However, the hideous price of spares put me off taking the leap. The definition of an optimist is a man who thinks he can 'just' afford to run an Aston! Last Sept I purchased the 1997 Jaguar Earls Court Motor Show XK8- Antigua blue, immaculate condition. Far cheaper than a DB7, and when all is said and done, it's a better car- which is what quite a few motoring hacks said back in the late 90's. The Jaguar interior is far superior to the Aston in my humble opinion- better quality and more opulent. The DB7 interiors have proven to be 'fragile' to put it kindly.
@jettstreamer2062 ай бұрын
Some of the earliest DB7s did have build quality issues. Were sorted out though. Connoly leather, proper wood and Wilton carpets and Aston Martin badge though, hard to beat. Especially with that styling and the v12.
@markcarter94762 жыл бұрын
I always promised myself an Aston Martin and like most mere mortals that would mean a 'pre-loved' example. The DB7 was always the obvious choice as the values depreciated to affordable levels and the number produced meant they were readily available. However, reliability issues and the potentially horrendous running costs always put me off. Eventually, when circumstances allowed, I did manage to purchase a DB9 which has been a joy to own. Better looking (IMO) and very reliable. However, Aston Martin parts are ridiculously expensive and not all can be sourced via some judicious research to identify the original parts manufacture. A good friend has a Jaguar XK (X150) and in my opinion that offers pretty much everything the Aston does, except the badge, for considerably less.

I'm on my 5th DB7 here in South Carolina USA....and I must say out of all the Astons I've owned, none of them have had anything major go wrong with the engine or transmission. Each car held 1 to 2 years at least. I had one V12 and the only reason I sold it was that I was tired of filling up the tank so often. Yes...I drive all my sportscars as daily drivers. I love the Jaguar XK8 and XKR being a sister car to the DB7, but the beauty of the DB7 always wins!! After owning over 60 odd sports cars in my life....I'm 56 now, and I could care less for speed. Yes....I enjoy the quick pickup of the DB7 whether 6 or 12 cyls.........but the top end is meaningless to me. In our area........we have spots that go over the lakes where we can test our cars for higher speeds, but as long as min does at least 100mph....I'll be happy. :) :) In my humble opinion....it's always been the LOOK of the car over performance. I want to drive my car...............not die trying to reach 162 just because the owners manual says it'll reach this speed. LOL

@@Beauloqs I have an XKR myself actually. Both cars are based off the XJS so I should think they are very similar in driving charactersistics, the biggest difference is the engine, outside design and the interior. "...better alternatives out there..."? You are so missing the point of owning an Aston Martin (DB7). If you want to spend small money and drive a V12, then go for the Jag. If you want drama and to show off, buy a Ferrari. If you want an unglamorous, boring yet reliable sportscar, go for a 911. And if you are a pimp, go for the Lambo or a Corvette. If, however, you are a gentleman of culture who loves style, class and understatement, then the Aston is for you. And if it breaks down every 5 miles, so what? The true Aston owner doesn't mind and enjoys the unmatched sophistication of the make. That's what owning an Aston is all about! And all those who don't understand what I mean are not made to own an Aston anyway. Cheers, sm

The DB7 was to Aston Martin as was to X-Type to Jaguar. They give you a taste of what a propper Aston or Jaguar is like, but you soon feel that you have bought an inferior car. I have owned both, and was glad to see the back of them, the DB7 was a money pit, and the creaks and rattles in the X-Type drove me mad. You can't do luxury performance motoring on the cheap, and these cars prove it.
@v10cylinder Жыл бұрын
People like you are ruining the reputation of the DB7. I have owned one and very much enjoy it. I totally disagree with you that this is an inferior car. It's exactly the opposite! It's a great car and very much fun to drive (I have a V12 manual). But you need to maintain it well. And if you can't afford the regular maintenance at the Aston Martin dealer, an Aston Martin is not for you.
@Barbarapape Жыл бұрын
@@v10cylinder Anyone using a main dealer for servicing a car that is long out of warranty has too much money. There are plenty of independant experts available who are more than capable of maintaining any Aston to a very high standard. The sample i bought came from Chiltern Aston a highly respected dealer who cared for my car very well, they are not responsible for the high price of genuine parts, or the fact that there are good and bad DB7's as there are with most marques of cars. These cars suffer from well known issues, a fully sorted and serviced one will be reliable but very expensive to repair when it goes wrong, at some point it will, which my sample did after 18 months of enjoyable driving. There is no such thing as a low cost Aston or Jaguar, if you have the funds to pay main dealer prices, then good luck to you.

AND i sold my Holden Commodore 5 litre manual car to buy the jag big mistake That Holden is now worth $50,000. The dealer we bought the Jag car from was a Jaguar dealer and they were forced to fix all the issues on the car and spent $6000 on repairs. The car was trouble free for 4 years but the whole time we had it the injectors needed to be cleaned and it was under powered until we sorted it out 3 years later due to the cost. Loved that car, it was great to drive, i would for some stupid reason buy another Jag. Aston martin NO THANKS. the only thing on our Jag that was never going to be a problem was the American made GM Turbo 400 Automatic transmition that was in 1000,s or cars, trucks, corvettes, pontiacs, cadillacs, buicks etc,etc.
