I have much respect for the Nurburgring and it is on my bucket list but on KZbin there is massive number of videos available on it. When MIGHTYCARMODS gets out of the Garage they make the best Automotive videos on KZbin so I prefer that like this video they bring something fresh to KZbin. Europe is filled with great roads, race tracks and car scenes. Again I'm a fan of the Nurburgring but there's absolutely nothing original about making a video of it.

This was the adventure that introduced me to you guys. I had just moved to a new town, new job, all by my own, (still) recovering from my entrepreneurship experience which left me almost dried to bits. That life of workaholism, personal and financial compromises ripped me apart from my hobby and life-time passion: old VW's. This time last year, it was my first week I had moved town and job. Sitting in my room looking at random KZbin videos. Out of nowhere, it started Autoplaying the first part of Turbos and TUV. I was brought back more than ten years, to my youth, when I got my license and started modding my 2003 VW Polo, which I owned for 12 years (Weitec coil-overs, wheels for all tastes from BBS RS 16'' to OEM Audi TT's, Golf interiors, Audi TT and Ibiza Cupra mechanical parts all over). Ten minutes in, I was crying by myself, realizing how far I had gone, and remembering back what made me... me. It was not about the mods or the car itself; it was about the car culture, the people I met, the new places I visited (god damn those road trips!), how democratic and humbling of a life experience it is that brings together corporate managers and middle-school janitors sharing their one passion with each other. I missed being surrounded by this kind of passion. The next week, I walked on the bus and went to a local meet and greet to see my car buddies from back in the day. I wasn't just taken back ten years; I was taken back to myself, to my own place in the world, to my roots and to how happy I was (and I didn't realise). Since then, I've been all over your adventures: Yaris Hilton, the March Super Turbo... Currently now looking to buy a decent 2010's VAG "nugget" (as you guys say down there), and get back on the horse. Not looking to mod a car to oblivion like I did with the Polo (my back also ain't what it used to be!), but a set of wheels, proper lowering springs, and a special care, can turn an everyday car into a personal statement, a manifestation of one's individuality. Thank you so much for the message you pass on, and for sharing your passion with the world. And for helping inspire this old soul to get his shit together. Cheers from a Portuguese fan

Altitude doesnt matter with a turbo
@Pmike4045 жыл бұрын
keepo yes it does. Especially in racing vehicles. Regardless if the car is N/A, or charges there will be less air getting into the engine. Less air into the engine and the car compensates by pumping less fuel. Giving you less power. A turbo or supercharge has to work harder to get the proper air it needs at higher altitudes. 2000 meters is roughly 1.2 miles above sea level. Watch any mike high drag racing compared to tracks at sea level and you’ll see a huge difference.

As a German I find the Golf pretty bland and more the represtation of a commuter car and less enthusiast car. Admittedly it's iconic and has a huge following for that reason, I just don't think it's a very interesting car for a movie of their caliber. Maybe even an Opel Manta would have been kinda cool (or a Vectra 4x4) or a VR6 TT if they wanted to stay in the VAG Family.

@@captainsewerrat They're buying cheap cars in other countries, registered in other people's names, so it's only natural that they go with something common and cheap. This Golf was about 2k€, to get a Scirocco with that kind of money it's either crashed or from the 80s. Corrados stopped being made in 95, so it's not a good car to buy sight unseen, specially in places with snow where they're likely rusting from road salt. When they're in Australia they can buy crazier stuff, but when they're abroad they probably can't afford to use 10 or 20k on a car just to give it away after a couple days. Think about it.

Driving up into the mountains woefully underdressed, chill mountain air, snow by the sides of the road, switchbacks!, ears popping, taking care on each corner because you can't see around it, rock wall on one side, nothing but air on the other. "Now we're in the mountains." If you've done it you will always remember. It doesn't matter where the mountains are. State, province, country, continent, hemisphere. "This is what it's all about. This is as good as it gets. This is enough." Thanks guys.

Think you got that right. You don't need much in life. Just the ability to experience things like Stelvio pass every once in a while. Did it last year on my €400 Suzuki GSX-F 750. Broke down twice on the way up (gasoline boiling in the carbs), overheated my brakes on the way down, was never happier to wait on the side of a road for things to cool down, just enjoying the view. Yet even happier when back on that road :)!

Typical Mk4 problem, solution requires tearing down the door completely, takes a lot of time and lots of fiddling. Had one with a door that couldn't be opened (inside or outside), kept it that way

More of an european GT car, like an Aston Martin. I drive an Abarth 124 Spider, this would be a good choice, too. Actually I am planning a trip to Italy (and of the Stelvio Pass) next year. :)

The ultimate driving machine for those roads is by far a motorbike. My brother and I did a lap of the alps on motorbikes a few years back and actually drove the Stelvio pass (and had lunch at the top). Just the feeling of open space you get on a bike is amazing. Not to mention it´s so much easier to stop anywhere to take photos. Almost had to spend the night on top of one pass though because I forgot to get gas before we went up. The needle was actually below the 0 when we eventually got down the other side.

Excellent video. The views are just amazing. That blow off valve is one of the reasons why the car is running like poo. The 1.8T needs a recirculating valve...not one that vents to the atmosphere.
