What’s up, I’ve been airbrushing for 30 years and I saw one of these and I had to pick one up. When I first tried it, it was sputtering and spitting until I found the secret. The needle and nozzle it comes with is too thin to spray with. So I got a 0.5 needle and nozzle, after that it works like butter. BIG difference. It will never replace my Iwatas or my compressor but it’s good to do quick sketches and to take on the go. Good video by the way.👍🏽

This is a cool video. I’m a miniature painter. So it is really interesting to see what other people use airbrushes for, and the tolerances they expect to be normal for airbrush usage. It would NEVER have occurred to me to try and use one of these portable brushes to paint a pair of sneakers. I mean, come on! It’s running at about 18PSI max. But for painting minis, at close to midnight, when you’re able to grab two hours of hobby time, while everyone else is asleep.... these devices are so quiet, so unobtrusive that family might believe that you’re actually doing something productive - like a bit of banking or investing. Honestly, this gear is far from perfect, but it has it’s place. It’s weak, but quiet, so you can be super sneaky and get stuff done and no-one is the wiser.

I started with this cordless airbrush version. It was painful to work with it. The nozzle broke off (when I tried to switch it carfefully), after 5 weeks and the compressor died in week 7. It took ages to clean the airbrush. It took years to build up layers, no matter how thin the paint was. Imagine working with a clogged airbrush, because that is how it felt all the time. If you buy cheap, you will buy twice! My Harder & Steenbeck Evolution really showed me, what airbrushing should be like lol.

I don't do anything with shoes, but I was gifted one of these and was trying to decide which projects to use this on. Thanks a MILLION for that comparison and showing how long it took on a shoe. I now know that I'm definitely NOT going to paint two dozen large ornaments with this thing, but it'll probably be fine for some miniature figures. I feel like you just saved me at least two days of time and headaches. Thanks! 🎉

This airbrush isn't designed to cover massive areas. It is built to be an affordable option for those that airbrush fingernails, mini's, and small items. Additionally they don't have the same size needle. There is a huge difference between an airbrush with a .5 needle which the badger has, and a .3 needle. Of course there will be less volume of painted sprayed when the needle is smaller. In this case you would be getting about 1/3 the volume, which I think is reflected in your testing.

@DeJesusCustomFootwear3 жыл бұрын
You can definitely get started practicing on paper, cardboard, anything like that just get a feel for your airbrush. What we use to make the smooth gradient is called the middle bar technique where you take an even mixture of both of your colors and spray that where they meet.. In a way its like creating a 3rd color and adding that in, but what you do after is take both of the original colors and blend those back on top of the new middle bar color you created. We give a breakdown in this video here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXzYk5ubfdd5a80)

Just an idea, but if it sprays water and thinner fine, have you tried making the paint mix as equally thin …or as close to the viscosity as water/thinner? Then when spraying maybe heat up the surface with a blow dryer or something and then paint the layers on in thin mist layers?

As an Airbrush newb, the self contained airbrush system you've being demonstrating has me now wondering if setting aside rattle cans that have served me well over the years in painting models in favour of this type of thing that requires a fair bit of learning to master has been such a crash hot idea. I'll see how it goes, but I've a feeling that if current practice is serving you well, why change for a journey into the unknown? The immediate advantage to me is that using an airbrush allows for almost endless colour variations. No bad thing as it happens but, necessary, or ideal, even, who knows? The attraction here of course was the self contained powering of the airbrush and so avoiding the purchasing of an air compressor. The airbrush and its can of electrical energy will arrive here sometime next week, I bought local rather than from overseas. This allows for less troubles if something goes wrong and the tool needs to be returned for repair or replacement. I'm not so sure that this self contained airbrush is actually not much more than a gimmick, but time will tell. Model building teaches patience, so this may need to be drawn upon before two moons have come and gone.
@richsmith72002 жыл бұрын
Old post, but what kind of models do you build? I do mostly military, but have had a hankering to build some cars and trucks, maybe vehicles I've actually owned, plus some fantasy vehicles (Ferrari, Lotus, etc). I've owned 4x4's, a '68 El Camino, SPL311, MG's, etc. I think I'll get one of these for interiors, cockpits, etc. The spray cans obviously don't allow good control of the paint application, especially thickness which can kill details, like panel lines, door jams, and such.

Maybe the needle isn’t locked all the way forward?

One of the reviews on Temu said it happens because the airflow control button was assembled in the wrong direction, I hope you understand what I mean, try to disassemble the airbrush itself and turn the trigger 180 degrees and see if it fixed your problem.

@@E_y_a_l ok but I found out I had to push the needle almost all of the way in so now it doesn't spray by itself anymore

Can someone enlighten me, if i want to get this "Iwata-Medea Eclipse HP CS Dual Action Airbrush Gun / Gravity Feed" from Amazon, does it come w a compressor? or is it separate. In that case its so expensive 😩
@DeJesusCustomFootwear3 жыл бұрын
Send me the link, but I’m guessing that’s just an airbrush no compressor

Because the rear screw is for liking the trigger to how far you want it to pull back to! Best to just keep it out our more expensive ones are push and release locks in the screw for modeller's this thing just no! It's hard enough using mine with a tiny secondary water trap attached direct to the airbrush! The single compressors you get are better for starting up with but it will stop working within a year to 2 years all 3 of mine did I ended up paying out for a big double tanked 620H sparmax compressor never had an issue and don't get a single bit of water through the airbrush like the single small compressors with the heat ut produces and condensation builds up in the piston as no airtank for it to escape to!

This item does seem like it has potential but I guess the technology just isn't quite there yet I mean it is convenient to be able to have one of these on your travels instead of having these huge compressors to take everywhere you go but until they can rival the compressors then they need to get back on the drawing board and figure that part out otherwise I don't see any use for it at this point at least for this brand that you bought maybe the quality ones might have actually giving you the same or a rivals that of a compressor.

Agree! If it this worked as well as intended it would be great for travel!

I have this same one but a different “brand”. I’m a first time air brusher but the compressor in this kit already seems to not be running at full capacity. The first two times I used it, it was fine. Last night, I made sure it had a full charge and put some water to make sure it would function. It did. I put some primer in (for miniatures) and thinned it with some water. Seemed decent and it was more the first two times I used the brush. I did quick trigger pulls, about 1-2 seconds each. I don’t even get done with the first model, the paints not coming out very well and the compressor is not as loud or vibrating as hard in my hand. The kit only came with a .3 mm needle/cone/tip so I had to make do. I’m looking at getting a different slightly more expensive one with a compressor with wall socket cable. Hopefully the airbrush is somewhat decent. Does have multiple needles as well. I WOULD NOT recommend this airbrush kit

For my personal this seems interesting for 2 mains reasons above the price, first I do not have space for a proper airbrushing set up, living in a 40sqm with my gf, and second It seems to be very useful for covering mesh fabric especially, even if the air flow is not that big it would be good enough to get a better finish than using paint brush ?!
@DeJesusCustomFootwear3 жыл бұрын
Yeah any airbrush application will beat paintbrush when it comes to fabrics so you can avoid those clumps and filling in the holes

@@DeJesusCustomFootwear a little question Dillon, I've seen some airbrushes with mini compressors, with 25psi for the compressor and a 0.5mm nozzle for the airbrush, the one you review has a 3mm nozzle which brings to maybe too diluted paint to avoid clogging, do you think it would change something 0.5mm nozzle? I've read that 0.5 is more recommended for acrylic paint
