In this video, I'm going to show you how we recreated the flat screen TVs false window KZbin studio setup made by Potato Jet. This setup is perfect for creating professional-looking KZbin videos and we built it out with short throw beam projector instead of flat screen TVs.
Be sure to check out Potato Jet's video here:
• Building this KZbin ...
*I would be very grateful if you could go to Potato Jet and tell him about my setup :) I will let you know if he reaches out.

*I'm not really sponsored by anyone however from time to time my videos may contain affiliate links in the description.
*The Fengmi MAX projector is something that we are using at our studio. I personally really like the quality and brightness it provides but there are other capable projectors out there as well. I just can't really say anything about other projects as I haven't use them yet.

Hi Guys I am doing something similar with short throw projectors. Good to see others doing the same.

Short throw projectors are the bomb 💣 They give a lot of flexibility for a fraction of a price of a LED wall. I can’t really imagine working on set without them.

@@nawafilm Have you tried this. I bought a second project, same make to link up. Side by side to strengthen the image. My screen is 20ft so each projector only needs to have a 10ft image. Makes it stronger.

I love this, want to do something similar at home with a regular projector.

I always recommend working first with what you have. Personally I have very old, used short throw lamp projector. It was around $80 and it's nowhere near the brightness of the projector we use at the studio but still it was great for experimentation.

This was great guys. We just moved away from projector to tv’s because of the light bleed in our small space.

Small spaces are rough for projectors. I hope LED walls get cheaper fast :) however with the diode pitch being not very close for budget options you would probably have to get further away from the wall anyway.

A few years more of Covid and remote working and we all would be using projectors for fake windows on calls with our coworkers 😂 Thank you for your comment ✌️

Very useful video, thanks. I have a 6m by 8m space for shooting and planning to use a beam projector as a background. Do you think it can work? Also could you make a video just about the projector like screen size, screen materials, positioning?

Hi, Around 4 months ago we've opened a smaller second studio that also uses a short throw projector. This studio is about 30 square meters. Not sure what the exact dimensions are but it's pretty small. A lot depends on the setups you want to make if it's something like a sitting person with a screen in the back it shouldn't be too complicated. I'll try to make a video about our projector setup at both of our studios. It may take me a while but I'll definitely get to it :) We are also getting a new projector so I'll be able to check it and compare to the one we are using now.

Hi, thanks a lot i mainly thinking of music videos, using a projector for close shoots and green screen for the rest. I don't have the budget for a full virtual set of course. Your channel is super helpful and professional which deserves way more views:) keep up and thanks!@@nawafilm

Cool video! Can I ask, what brand/model of projector do you use? Our small production company based in Glasgow, Scotland have just moved into our first office and we are deciding between getting a projector, a large TV or mounting a few paper backdrops.

Hi, we are using a Fengmi MAX projector. It's a version with 4500 ANSI lumen. I believe my boss knows a webpage that has a good price and a warehouse somewhere in Great Britain. But if you are willing to hold off with your purchase we will be buying a 3 RGB laser projector that is supposed to be a lot better for bright rooms. When we get it I will make sure to compare the two projectors. It may take some time so if you are in a hurry I can always find out the webpage for the Fengmi MAX one.

@@nawafilm Hey. Thanks for your reply. That looks like a great product from a quick Google. That is a very kind offer. If you get a chance to find out the webpage that would be really appreciated but don't worry if not. It may be out of our price range anyway. And yeah, I look forward to hearing how the Fengmi and RGB projectors compare!

@@calum89robertson I managed to get the site that we bought the projector from. They have quite good prices for their projectors. The link is an affiliate link so if you rather just find the site yourself you can look for "nothing projectors" or just click this link for the exact projector we are using. nothingprojector.com/products/fengmi-cinema-4k-max-projector-4500-ansi-lumens-memc-laser-projector-for-home-theater-ultra-short-throw-projection-tv?sca_ref=3548487.hPN5YO2ciF

Looks nice, though I think it seems like you're hitting the limits of the brightness of the projector. It would look a lot more convincing as a daylit window if it appeared brighter relative to your set. Perhaps dim down your set lights and open up your aperture so the window looks more like a real bright window. As it is it seems weird that you'd be brighter and contrastier inside than it is outside your window. With all that extra space in front of your backdrop, a hard sunlight motivated by the window would really sell the look I think.

you are 100% right, we will push it further next time, there is a space for more convincing daylight and your tips looks really to the point

This is exactly what I was thinking when I watched Gene's video. Instead of using a bunch of monitors, why not using short-throw projector?
@nawafilm

The thing with this setup is that it needs quite a strong projector to work. I also wonder if this setup would work out in a smaller space. I tried to recreate it at my home with a 80 USD old lamp projector and it was nowhere near the needed output. I would need to check if using one of our Fengmi projectors would do the trick at a smaller space like a home studio.
@imoutodaisuki
@imoutodaisuki Жыл бұрын
@@nawafilm Ah, right. If the projector is weak, the background will look flat and dark, which reduces realism since real windows are bright. If buying a high-lumen projector ends up costing more than just buying three cheap TVs, it would be better to buy TVs instead.

You all realize movies have been using video projection since the 19th century right?
@nawafilm
@nawafilm Жыл бұрын
Sure we realise :) The only difference is that now it's a lot more affordable and requires less space as we have short throw laser projectors. I'm not saying that my setup is revolutionary, but still I believe it's pretty fun ✌️
