You are quite right, when you see a classic mini on the road now they look so tiny compared to modern cars. Come to think of it even my Series 5 Humber Super Snipe looks about the same size a MINI Countryman. How did that happen? Does that mean when you park a Jaguar Mk 10 next to a modern car it now looks about the same size rather the largest British car in the '60's. Love your channel.
@UKBarnFinds10 ай бұрын
It’s all the safety equipment that makes them so big, I think, so it’s probably a good thing. It would be interesting to see how an old Jag compares. To be honest, though, we have a Volvo 740 saloon and that doesn’t feel small. Mind you, that was considered ‘huge’ back then 😂
@Polecat5494110 ай бұрын
I agree with what you say, although it is indeed a classic mini I personally only like up to Mk4 with the centre speedo as the Rover era refinement in my opinion is not what a mini is about, simplicity, not to mention how the Rover mini's rust compared to the earlier ones. My 78 is totally original with only 14,000 miles from knew and i can fix it with 3 spanners and a screwdriver with a spare fuse just on the off chance if one of the 4 fuses fitted blows :)

Given the type of cars you work with, I would suggest you take a look at the Bilt Hamber products, if you haven't already. I use quite a few of their products for cleaning and polishing cars, but I haven't used their corrosion products yet simply because I have had no need to. I will say that everything of theirs I have used so far has done exactly what it says it will, so I would expect their corrosion protection and conversion products to be just as good.
@UKBarnFinds10 ай бұрын
Thank you. I've just searched them out - bilthamber.com/ and am having a browse through their website now.

@@UKBarnFinds You'll find reviews for just about every one of their products on KZbin, and I've yet to see a bad review of anything of theirs I've looked up. Might find some stuff useful for your little A30, and those wheel arches I'm just looking at on the Volvo.

Nice little car, brings back memories of my '64 850. At 04:44 you are leaning into a running engine with the risk of your hoodie ties getting caught in the engine. OK, on a Mini most of the whirly bits are at the other end of the engine but there is a risk of injury if you do the same with a conventional engine layout.
@UKBarnFinds10 ай бұрын
There’s a cover over the moving parts on this one, but I agree that it’s not a sensible thing to do. I usually remove the hoodie when playing with cars and will make a point of doing so in future videos, as it’s not a good example to set. Cheers 👍🏻

I've owned a mk1 mini for 20 years now, been off the road for most of the last 10. Our Discovery 4 had yet another catastrophic failure and we were left without any transport, prompting a quick recommission of the mini to get children to school and shopping runs etc. 100% empathise with you there; getting back into a mini and driving in modern traffic is weird and scary. Even modern micro-cars are huge in comparison. Took me 2 weeks to readjust and get the confidence back.
@UKBarnFinds10 ай бұрын
Absolutely. The trip to Kent to pick up Claire’s was fun, but also a stark reminder how cars had grown. Claire had a modern Fiesta at the time and it was a lot bigger, which is why she stayed in the Fiesta and made me drive the Mini home 😂

Nice little car. Elton, thanks for showing how not to do an emergency stop. Just for the benefit of the viewers, you should never brake so hard that you completly lock all the wheels. Thankfully, Claire did a much better job.

The other reason cars get scrapped when someone dies is that the partner couldn't cope with seeing the car out and about on a daily basis. My Aunt did that when my uncle died insisted it was broken up rather than sold to someone . I know what you mean about soppy when it comes to buying stuff.......I bought my house cos i felt sorry for it . 😂. Had been to auction 5 times and no bids.
@pauljeffries10 ай бұрын
Nice car but it's going to take a bit more than a couple of months to sort that bodywork out, plus it looks like the suspension cones need replacing, the car sits far too low, that's why the ride is so hard, it needs a fair bit of money throwing at it, the new panels for a front end are the best part of £1k, I hope that you got it for a decent price because at auction you'd be lucky to see anymore than £2k for that on a good day, good luck with the auction sale 👍

I was just having a chat about them on the phone with Neil, the transport guy. We were saying how rare it is to see a barn/garage find one these days, compared to a few years ago.
