Absolutely brilliant episode. People don't understand how when you come from countries that don't have elephants, to see one in the wild and ride that close to it is a once in a lifetime experience. I was also s******g bricks that he would allow me past. You're right, we had already seen elephants earlier in the tour but this was a totally different experience to get that close with absolutely no barriers between us, scary but amazing at the same time! We will come back to Sri Lanka again some day as well it's a very special place 😁🙏

Yes, it's the same road. Lavi & Ollie were riding from Buttala to Kataragama. David Attenborough's new series ASIA depicts the scene on the same road, perhaps the same elephants too since they are regulars on that road. There are tons of videos on this road on KZbin. I love that lodge you stayed at! How cool! That is pretty cool the way they surround their reservoirs with national parks. Legends! It must be really easy to lose tour guests in that traffic. How amazing to see elephants again. I would be freaking out riding that close to an elephant though. What a buzz! Bucket list stuff!

Watching this reminds me so much of Nepal lowlands around Chitwan, so very similar in so many ways - yet different at the same time. Elephant encounters are quite common in Nepal too, you would like it there. I'm thinking My wife and I might quite like a Sri Lanka bike trip after watching :)

Super nice lodging! How are you ever going back to tent and sleeping bags? Ask your leader to stop at some of the better roadside markets, who doesn't like browsing? A drink and more ice cream. Watching Dec 5, 2024. There was a big cyclone end of nov. You're probably out of Sri Lanka by now.

@@LaviandOllie Yes, it is true. But most of the elephants on the road are used to eating food given to them by people in vehicles. They stretch their trunks and ask for food from people on the road. They are used to people. But those inside the forest are not so friendly. Travel carefully. Your caution will take you safely to your destination. Good luck👍😘
