Minus the fat suit we've seen Fraser's performance a million times and will again, and his dramatics were no better than Austin's away from the Elvis specifics, such as when Gladys dies, Priscilla leaves and when he screams at Parker on stage and when he yells at Parker and Vernon in the hotel lobby and suite. Austin won around the world, Great Britain, Australia, Spain, Ireland, South Africa, Portugal and multiple countries bodies that represent 50 and 20 countries. Austin was also named to the Top 100 Influential People in the World by Time Magazine, and again, no Fraser. Showing that Frasher's comeback and "Me Too" story means nothing from an international perspective when considering acting performance. Also, there are only 3 highly prestigious film awards for acting recognized around the world, The Golden Globe, The BAFTA and the Oscar and Austin won 2 of them. SAG and Critics Choice (other U.S. bodies that Fraser won with) don't make a single list for worldwide recognition. The Golden Globes (1944) BAFTA (1949) along with the Oscars (1929) all make every list of not only significant global film awards, but awards in general, including the Grammy, Nobel and Pulitzer. The Oscars have and agenda based on lifetime achievement and comeback narrative and American voters in general lean this way, not to mention the obstacle they create for those in their first lead role, which is why he won 13 Breakthrough Performance or Most Promising awards from other U.S. organizations. For the record, here are all Austin's wins as Elvis, not including his 13 Breakthrough performance awards. The Hollywood Foreign Press/Golden Globe (Best Performance in a Motion Picture -Drama) The British Academy of Film and Televison (Best Leading Actor) The Australian Academy of Cinema and Televison International and Domestic versions (Best Lead Actor) South African Online Film Critics (Best Actor) Sunset Circle Awards (Best Actor) International Press Academy/Satellite Award (Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical) People's Choice (Drama Movie Star of 2022) The Minnesota Film Critics Alliance (Best Actor) Sant Jordi Award (Best Actor in a Foreign Film) CinEuphoria Best Actor - International Competition

Actually preparing for a role before you get it is so smart. I'm not in the business but I'm sure that preparation before you audition makes it 100X easier for casting to visualize you in the role.

A lot of actors don’t always have the preparation time. Elvis had a long preproduction process and playing Elvis meant searching for quite a long time for the right actor allowing that timeframe for Butler. Charlie Cox talked about him auditioning for Daredevil & that the casting department chose not to inform actors of the role, but his agent believed it was for that character.

@80s Teen I think we can all agree that they're great actors. Who cares about the statistics. Numbers are numbers. The hearts of the people voting is what gives the winners their light. Brendan's struggle won over the hearts of the people. We don't know the actors personally either, so talking about them in rudimentary terms doesn't do this any justice.

Austin beat Fraser head to head with international voters: Foreign Press Golden Globe, UK BAFTA, Catalonia Sant Jordi, Australia AACTA International and is up for the Irish International category at IFTA May 7 and Fraser's not even nominated. Austin was also named to the Top 100 Influential People in the World by Time Magazine, and again, no Fraser. Showing that Frasher's comeback and "Me Too" story means nothing from an international perspective when considering acting performance. Also, there are only 3 highly prestigious film awards for acting recognized around the world, The Golden Globe, The BAFTA and the Oscar and Austin won 2 of them and both vs Fraser. SAG and Critics Choice (other U.S. bodies that Fraser won with) don't make a single list for worldwide recognition. Austin's hard work and dedication definitely was worth it especially to all of us Elvis fans around the world but also for a new generation of fan or just new fans from every age group, Elvis was an outstanding singer/performer and he deserved this portrayal, Austin loves, respects and admires Elvis and wanted to do him justice and for Lisa Marie and family, he has received approx 22 awards for his portrayal including golden globe, Australian academy, British academy for best actor/outstanding performance. The American academy got it wrong in my personal view but a little gold statue doesn't mean anything near what Austin has givin millions of us fans, he has our hearts forever ♥️♥️♥️♥️⚡⚡⚡⚡

Oscars sometimes give the award to an actor’s body of work, paying their dues rather than specific performance. Mr. Butler will receive future nominations no doubt. Brandon Fraser has been in the movie industry for 30 years and his performance in The Whale is outside his norm. I have not seen it yet but he received a standing ovation plus the momentum is the right time for him. Look at past wins for “body of work” winners …. Geraldine Page, Alan Arkin, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Kate Winslet, Brad Pitt, Susan Sarandon, Art Carney.

The Golden Globes (1944) BAFTA (1949) along with the Oscars (1929) all make every list of not only significant global film awards, but awards in general, including the Grammy, Nobel and Pulitzer. The Oscars have and agenda based on lifetime achievement and comeback narrative and American voters in general lean this way, not to mention the obstacle they create for those in their first lead role, which is why he won 11 Breakthrough Performance or Most Promising awards from other U.S. organizations. For the record, here are all Austin's wins as Elvis, not including his 11 Breakthrough performance awards, and he's also up for The Irish International and Mtv Award, both on May 7 The Hollywood Foreign Press/Golden Globe (Best Performance in a Motion Picture -Drama) The British Academy of Film and Televison (Best Leading Actor) The Australian Academy of Cinema and Televison International (Best Lead Actor) Sunset Circle Awards (Best Actor) International Press Academy/Satellite Award (Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical) People's Choice (Drama Movie Star of 2022) The Minnesota Film Critics Alliance (Best Actor) Sant Jordi Award (Best Actor in a Foreign Film) CinEuphoria Best Actor - International Competition

I had forgotten about Elvis after I saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show (my dad liked him too) when I was a child. When this absolutely compelling presentation of Elvis appeared, I was transposed. In my honest opinion, you, Austin, should retain that unbeatably sexy Elvis accent. It’s really wonderful and you worked so hard for it! Your performances are transporting-dreamy.

This was a role of a lifetime for him! It was a make it or break it for him so ofcourse he's gonna go to the extreme to Achieve that! If this didn't go well and the movie flopped he probably would have never worked again! I'm sure y'all who are saying this never had any Passion in your lives.

@@rpdbu8250 SAG doesn't carry more weight internationally is what he's saying. In Hollywood yes, but outside of the states SAG and Critics Choice are not referenced anywhere. They are traditional precursors to the Oscars because it's all primarily Americans but BAFTA and the Golden Globes are stand alone prestigious awards that don't need the Oscars to validate them. That's why only them and the Oscars are recognizable abroad. They all represent different voting bodies. Globes - Voters from around the world, BAFTA - The United Kingdom and the Oscars - The United States. No need for SAG and Critics Choice to be significant to those outside of the states because for that they just look to the Hollywood Oscars. SAG doesn't predict the Oscar winner because of its status but because it's Hollywood union members, like the Oscars. Not to mention that union members really do vindicate people and not acting

@@rpdbu8250 Yes, and I was stating why that was. It's the type of same like-minded people. And those examples you referenced were no doubt lifetime achievement. Especially Art Carney vs Nicholson and Pacino.

I am a 71 year old British Granny (using hubby's KZbin account!) and I am sad to say that even in my youth Elvis was 'old hat' and 'square' and I didn't even think about him. It was the Beatles, the Stones and the Kinks for me. Since seeing the movie last summer I have grown to love and respect Elvis and have bombarded my kids and grandkids with info on him. This movie was nothing short of genius and Baz and his team should be very proud of their achievement. How it didn't win one Oscar is beyond me. They have no credibility to me now. At least we Brits recognised it with Austin winning best actor at the BRIT awards and the movie winning 3 others. Now onto Austin. OMG his portrayal of Elvis was spot on. All his hard work and dedication to the role over 3 years definitely payed off. Not only did he have to act the role out, he had to learn to move, talk and sing like Elvis which he did spectacularly. He actually seemed to embody Elvis. And what a stunning looking young man, seemingly very humble and down to earth. I have to admit to having a massive Grancrush on him! 🥰 Anyway, that movie affected me more than any I have seen in all my 71years. I saw it twice at the cinema (nothing compared to some people though). I bought the Dvd and have seen it countless times at home. I am sure Elvis would definitely have approved of Austin and the whole movie and I am sure too, with it bringing Elvis to the attention of a new generation, he will live in our hearts for many more years to come. Long live the King! 👑

the dedication Austin put in during the pandemic and being away from his entire family doesn't even compare to what the other nominees did for prep . a costume is one thing vs having to take on a larger than life giant really was so much and upsets me that he didn't win that WOKE OSCAR !!! shame on those that voted for the others who came no where close to what Austin and Baz did ..but of course we knew they would vote for the woke crowd or the crying and whining about their feelings would start ..AUSTIN WAS PHENOMENAL IN HIS ELVIS MOVIE ..so we know he will continue ahead he will continue to put in that dedication and heart in everything he does. He is a WINNER IN MY BOOK

I just watched "Elvis" for the 3rd time. Austin Butler is phenomenal in this role. I was an Elvis fan since I was 7 years old. No one has ever portrayed Elvis the way Austin Butler did!! He deserved that Oscar award and the "elites" wouldn't allow him to receive it. Jealously is one of the 7 deadly sins. It was jealousy that robbed Austin of the award. Austin you don't need that statue!! Your soul was in that performance of "Elvis"!! No one will ever do justice to Elvis the way you did. Thank you for putting your heart and soul into this film ❤
