I don't mind house wives for other relationships and when the couple is doing it right. But at some point, the man needs help. When he is struggling to provide a solid foundation, the wife should step up. In this case, the wife is still sitting back doing nothing sounds like. She is just wishing and hoping her husband figures it out.

This whole situation really frustrates me. Why would someone elect to bring a child into the world when you cannot pay bills? We're talking about a planned pregnancy here. Her biggest concern in calling off the pregnancy is that she doesn't want to loose her $500 deposit?!?!? 70k for an investing class? flipping houses while broke? Cherie, please don't have anymore kids. Aside from your current kids, you and your husband should responsibly put an end your gene pools.

If they sell the Colorado house and the car they’re not broke. Selling that house clears that debt payment and the credit cards for the most part. How much more do they have in their budget when the credit cards are gone, the car payment is gone and the second house is gone? Now they have a workable budget although it would be tight.

Let me say this: if her husband is on pipelines, he is making good money. What their issue is is they have a bad spending habit. A tragic case. The only thing I'm not sure about in Dave's advice is him saying not to pay the credit cards just yet. That debt is costing them probably $9,000 a year just in interest. If they sell the rental house and get rid of most of the CC debt, they find themselves with a ton of extra cashflow. Except for what they lost by giving up the rental income - d'oh! Still, the rental house can't have been that huge a monthly income for them, as they are paying a mortgage and property taxes on that thing - it's probably more like an investment for their retirement. At present, the surplus income from the house, if there is any, is paying their credit card interest. But by the time they've traded down the 4-Runner, adjusted their lifestyles, and got some extra work, they should be on the right side. Shouldn't they?
