I had this really awesome change in Madden 2006. I really disliked LaDanien Tomlinson, and I wanted to screw him over. I once changed his stats to make him bad, but they just cut him instead. So... I bumped up some of his stats, but turned his carrying(likelihood of fumbling) all the way down. Best automated franchise mode ever. Teams always signed him, and then got rid of him the next season. The reason for the old-time names is because they have a very simple naming algorithm for randomly generated players. They just take a list of every in-game player’s first name and last name and randomly assign one of each to each created player. Since there are so many historical teams in the game, a lot of old names tend to pop up

Like, if someone has good intangibles, that means they tend to get decent results even if on paper they aren't very fast, strong, or accurate. Usually it refers to players who "work hard" in some capacity.
