When Maester Aemon told Sam “A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing.” The camera panned to Jon entering the room. That was the major hint in S5.
@janellejulianajoy
@janellejulianajoy Жыл бұрын
There were many subtle hints. One of the biggest is the scene in the very first episode when he has to execute the young man after he abandoned the Night's Watch. When Ned says he's performing hus duty to the name of King Robert Baratheon, the camera pans over to both Bran and Jon when he recites king of the Andals and First Men. This scene also foreshadows Jon's parentage as the rightful heir. Two people no one would ever bet on; a "bastard" and a cripple.

39:14 Cersei definitely *DID NOT* anticipate Tommen's death. She thought she could prevent it by protecting him. @cassandramcbride7007
@cassandramcbride7007 Жыл бұрын
But in the context of the show, it was a big mistake. She would face a civil war in her hands. The common folks would came after her, the nobles would came after her, the religious people would came after her. She would had nobody to protect her, specially because the nobles would cut her from their armies. She would only have access to Lannister Army (if the other lords decide to support her, once they knew she killed her uncle and cousin) StormsLand would be in riot to decide who would be the next Lord, Reach would cut their food and gold supplies. Lets not forget that Tyrells, are the only nobles with the biggest army intact. Dorne does have a army intact. North is starting to unify again, against her. Only Riverlands is neutral. If this was not enough, the kingslanding folks would provoke riots after riots. So... i still want to know, how easy access Cersei become queen.

You're confusing Littlefinger with Varys -- Varys is the one who's always said he wasn't interested in the throne, that he served the realm. Littlefinger has always wanted the throne from day one -- the Stark vs. Lannister feud he manipulated through Lysa was all part of that plan.

I do find the part with the "little-bird" and Lancel a bit ridiculous. Like, if that child got things a little bit wrong, maybe Lancel saw the child coming to stab him, and quite easily overpowers the small child, then he can walk to the wildfire a put the fuse out, or just run away. The seemed to base this plan an awful lot on the competence of this child.

@@gunkulator1 Except he could very well change that for the books (if he ever decides to continue it lol) GRRM also never did confirm if the showrunners were correct or not, he asked them who Jon's parents were and they gave this answer. For all we know GRRM gave the green light for them to make the show because they went with an existing fan theory and wasn't gonna spoil his actual book plot lol 🤷🏻‍♀️ At this point it'll be pretty silly of him to write the books the same way the show concluded.

No....Cersei was dressed that way because she knew she was putting the entire sept to death. Lol...poetic essence/ justice, in a sense. She laid them to rest. She didn't send Jamie on a botch mission because she anticipated the Mountain fighting for her. She said it specifically to Jamie before he left for Riverrun. Then...the Mountain ripped off the faith militant's head....and Tommen banned trial by combat. So there's no way Cersei planned to get the throne, etc.

@Cliohna
@Cliohna Жыл бұрын
Yes, it was. They (showrunners and Djawadi) purposefully decided not to use the piano at the start of the show. This made the use at this point very noticeable. I adore Ramin Djawadi's music in Game of Thrones, my favorite theme is the one for House Baratheon. I saw him live do his thing at the GoT concert in Berlin, Germany. It was magical. And I think it was special for him, too. Because he could moderate us through the show in German and to be back in Germany (although the show in Cologne was probably a little closer to the heart for him, but this was the first concert in Germany during the tour).
@TGIFridayy

I'm surprised that you guys were confused about Jon's parentage, I feel like you pick up everything haha! At this point in the show, it's not a theory, so I don't think me explaining is a "spoiler," I'm just providing clarity. Robert's Rebellion started due to Lyanna's disappearance with Rhaegar (presumed to be kidnapped). Rhaegar was keeping Lyanna hidden at the Tower of Joy throughout the war (the tower seen in this season). At this point in the story when Ned goes to "save" her, the Mad King and Rhaegar are both dead. An important thing to note is that Rhaegar left two of his best Kingsguard to keep guard at the Tower of Joy with Lyanna, while Rhaegar was fighting Robert. Wouldn't you think he would keep his Kingsguard with him to fight? But he didn't so why would you think that is? To protect Lyanna and his child. It's not really fleshed out in the show, but a big point in the first book of the series during Ned's POV chapters, was his recalling Lyanna's last moments and her last words to him - "Promise me, Ned." That is shown here, along with her saying, "They will kill him and you know it." She is telling him that he has to keep Jon's identity as Rhaegar's son secret because Robert would kill him if he knew. And so, when Ned returned to Winterfell with a newborn Jon, he told everyone that he was his bastard to honor his promise to his dead sister.

There are also fantastic changes and new scenes, for example arya and tywin at harrenhall or the conversation of cercei and robert, but the whole dorne plot for example or the stuff in the free cities. I can understand that they didn't adapt the books 1:1, there are so many characters and twists, and when you produce a show with such a budget you need also those who don't pay attention to details and who don't remember what they ate for breakfast, so I can understand they don't have the young griff. But why have they changed the northern vassals to illoyal bannermen? Why have they ruined the genius of Prince Martell? Also: George r r martin doesn't want to have a story where you have bad vs good, there are soo many theories about the white walkers and their king and their motivation. What do we get? Nothing. Cersei is not a good person but she is not the same as Joffrey and Ramsay. Her most heinous actions are not driven by being evil for evil's sake, they're driven by survival. She will do anything and everything to protect herself and hers. Jaime is the same, he killed the mad king and tried to murder Bran to protect himself and his. The difference is she's the only character who has spent the whole series playing the game of thrones, constantly on survival mode, with knives at her throat. I'm not defending Cersei's behavior, I am simply saying the character and her motivations are a lot more complex than just "she's evil". And that is why so many people enjoy her character. Morality and likability are not what automatically makes a character interesting, layered, and entertaining, of which Cersei is all three.

The answer is simple. People like Sansa (why I don't know but that's another convo) and hate Cersei so they forgive Sansa anything. Just like all of the strong Dani fans didn't see or want to except what the story was leading us to believe about her all along. If we like you we'll forgive nearly anything but if we hate you we'll find any reason to hate you more. Like their debate about Cersei knowing her son was going to commit suicide on that day just to reach for more ammo to hate Cersei all the more. Anyway you comment was excellent!

This was probably one of the happiest days in my life, when all this happened. Which is even more surprising, considering the fact that we had Dany's return and the Battle of the bastards in the previous episode.

The Light of the Seven trial sequence and the Tower of joy sequence are an exquisite piece of art 🖤 The music, cinematography and story progression is so amazing🙌 Also, the built-up for R+L=J is insane...it blows my mind that book lovers have waited for it since decades...and even I waited for it for ~4 years!!!

I love the way S&P's hate for Cersei has made "Cersei deliberately killed Tommen" their headcannon :D

I think this episode was one of my all-time favorites and it was an absolute pleasure re-watching it with you 😊 I congratulate you both on staying away from spoilers. Your faces expressed true shock about Jon’s parentage. With social media, I was truly amazed you could be shocked and enjoyed seeing your faces. I almost threw up when Pudgey was gagging over Walder Frey’s meat pie 😂 as I was eating my breakfast at the time. Thanks for the best reaction ❤

Arya killing Walder Frey was foreshadowed when Bran told Jojan and Meera the story about the cook that served a lord his sons in a pie because he broke the guest protection law and killed guests under his roof. The Stark kids obviously took Old Nan's stories and REALLY listened. 😅 Varys once said " Littlefinger would let the realm burn if he could be king of the ashes" so Littlefinger HAS had ambitions for the throne, just not Varys.

That's not how the story went. The cook was the one who broke guest rights and killed a guest under his roof. The gods then turned him into a rat as punishment for it.

Jon's parentage is the best kept secret that was brilliantly hinted at in A Game of Thrones with Lyanna's Promise me, Ned... GRRM mastery of tale-weaving.
