Most pros always play the new DLC character to understand how to fighting against. Brian just happened to get obsessed with perfecting his DP anti-air and he really enjoys complex combo tools like Ed's SA2. I think it wasn't a conscious decision to drop JP as much as it just happened, much like it was with Balrog to Oro.

He took a break from the game and came back to play Ed and just seemed to gel with him. Plus all the bronze-silver losers constantly crying at him because of his character choice probably helped his decision to switch.
