Always a fan of the O'Day boats back in the day new they were expensive. As for yours $750. Is a great deal considering the trailer. I'm 68 and haven't sailed in years but have the itch for a small daysailer .

I started with a Javelin 14 from the 60s....very similar to this but just delete the deck bump and 2 feet. It was a displacement hull though, where this and the Daysailor 17 have the planing hull. My wife (fiancee at the time) named it "Willie". That was when I was 23 to 27. Stepping that mast was OK then but I doubt I could do it now in my 60s. My next boat had a hinged mast as it was a 21 cruiser.

You are in Kentucky, there is another KZbinr with an Ospray in Rhode Island, I am in NJ and got one three years ago. We need an ospray raid.

All kinds of those O'days here in southern Maine. They must have been quite popular at one time. Though I can't say I have come across an Ospray around here yet. The centerboard Mariners in good shape tend to command a higher price. Lot of them here have fixed keels and tend to be more neglected. We used to have a Herreshoff Meadowlark 33 and later a 23 foot Norwalk Island Sharpie that dad built, both of which I sailed single hand.

Congratulations on your new sailboat. I’ve been wanting to sail to the Bahamas for a long time now and I’m not sure if I should take my sharpie. It’s a bit small for the journey. So as always I am looking for a replacement, or not lol. Looking forward to seeing your work on your boat, and sailing it too. Cheers.

I have a 73 Oday Mariner , my mast was not straight when I got it.Someone told me to just put it on sawhorses so the bend was centered between them and then carefully sit on the mast in the middle with the bow up ,gradually apply pressure ,worked great, I couldnt believe it
@cumberlandrover Жыл бұрын
That's essentially the method I used, but more so pushing on/bouncing the mast to slowly correct the bend. This mast actually had 2 bends (S shape). Straightened out nicely. Love the Mariner.

Good day. I am looking at getting a 1971 Oday. Same as the one you have. I have a question, if you do not mind. Can one person rig the boat by himself? Its just me and my dog. She wont be helpful. lol Appreciate any feedback.
@cumberlandroverАй бұрын
With the factory setup it is possible, but not very easy (or safe) for one person to step the mast. With a hinged tabernacle modification, stepping the mast is easy. I covered this in my build video. Talk to Rudy at DR Marine. He will get you set up.

@ thank you for your reply!! Really appreciate it! I’ve decided to go with a Vagabond 14 instead. Just much easier and safer to step.
