Love seeing the ship. My dad was WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He passed away this past November. He told a lot of stories of being on a ship and this video let me see a lot of what he told about. Thanks so much!

Great 20 minute tour. Been there once and you can spend a day in patriot point to see everything. If you'd like to see a battleship I'd recommend the USS Massachusetts in Falls River Mass. You get to tour about 90 percent of the ship.

Thank you Will and Dawn for taking time to thank veterans. Many of us patriotic Americans have a connection to the great US military. Both of my grandfathers served in WWll. My husband is on his 26th year serving in the great US Navy here at Pearl Harbor. I have been with him For all of it. He served on submarines. But we are both amazed and in awe of carriers we have visited or are docked here. So for what it’s worth I appreciate that you showed us this carrier in Charleston. I was only In Charleston for 2 days a couple years ago. And we enjoyed our Short time there and would like to go back. Thanks for the video.

Brings back memories of the 40 years working on navy ships out of the Norfolk, VA area starting out as a boilermaker apprentice at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. At 14:50 you were looking into the steam drum of a boiler. The firebox would be below that at the next level down. Different levels on the ship were accessed through hatches in the decks while watertight doors was where you walked through. They were designed to lock down in case of flooding. Nice video, wish I could have been there with you.

I didn't like those steep steps either. We walked until we just couldn't walk any more....and couldn't climb one more step. And we still only got to see about 1/3 of the ship! And yes, it was hot down there! Hopefully we'll go back some day to see the rest. 👍

My husband served on the now decommissioned Sub tender USS Fulton in New London Connecticut. Not nearly the size of an aircraft carrier but huge in itself own right. I remember sitting in a long line of wives awaiting our husband's back from sea ❤ When in port, my husband would bring me on the ship to see his duty station. ❤

My husband was on the USS Forrestal in the early 1970s for 4 years. It is now decommissioned from 1993. We have a battleship here in downtown Norfolk Va. Called Wisconsin, which is open for tours. Aircraft carriers are hugh, and thousands of men are on board for 7-8 months at a time. They have everything on board for the men. Norfolk,Virginia, has a big militery base, which is where my husband works as an electrician for the whole base. We live in Portsmouth, which is across the Elizabeth River . If you have never been on a ship, it can be quite interesting. I'm glad you are able to go and experience what life is like on the ship.

Glad you got to see some of this, make time to go back there is so much more if you have the time...there is also a replica of a Viet Nam Fire Base complete with a Patrol Boat! Back in the late 70's I used to take my Scout troop onboard the Yorktown for camping, they got the run of the ship for two day and one night sleeping in the racks and eating in the mess hall for meals! This was the second Yorktown, the original was sunken at the Battle of Midway but this one as you saw, had plenty of action. Called "The Fighting Lady" A little bit of "Sea School" just for fun....on a ship the floor is the "deck"... beds = Racks... walls = bulkhead... restroom = The Head...stairs = ladder :) Semper Fi !
