The clone didn’t understand what he was at this point, but part of me wonders if he saw the possibility of defeat by Worf and decided to play the fight off with rousing speech. Worf is shown to be a tournament champion-level fighter in the next season, and he appears to hold his own more or less in this battle. The cloned Kahless plays it off in a way that saves him the potential of a humiliating loss and also turns sentiment such that Worf would look ignoble to renew his challenge.

This reminds me of ancient historical warriors in real life who would huddle together before battle for a rousing chant of "We are humans! We are humans!
