I’m always surprised at how many DIYers, seem to refuse to wear simple safety glasses and gloves, at the very least. Here’s this guy cleaning out a gutter, raking his fingers through detritus & debris, without a thought to what kind of infections stabby bits might be in there! 😮
@reu285 ай бұрын
that was my first thought when i started watching, he even took a trowel up with him but left it on the roof
@smavtmb21965 ай бұрын
Messing job is correct. 👍 Also roof tiles need a pressure wash at some point. I definitely agree with not rebuilding the back patio roof to its full width, as that would cover more windows blocking even more light getting into the house. The patio roof is definitely wide enough. However I would consider changing the angle/pitch of the existing patio roof section to be higher like it originally was. Doing so would allow more natural light into the main room. So the roof would still extend out far enough to cover the whole patio but be at a higher angle letting in more light but keep patio dry. The only downside is the extra cost to change the pitch/roof angle over the patio.

Yes, that was my thought too! Excellent job on digging out that gutter garden! A suggestion: a nozzle on the end of the hose would make the water stream more efficient, giving it greater pressure and reach, and would require fewer moves of the ladder. In my opinion, the fewer times you need to move the ladder, the quicker the job goes!

Just grass clippings from the old garden quickly filled a compost bin, and with veg peelings, discarded fruit, hedge cuttings and weeds, I had two more "on the go". Just make sure it's well rotted or remove the weeds before composting

Never ending jobs on old buildings (ours dates from the 1750s and is stone with brick extensions of later dates) but worth every bit of the work! I'm surprised Gil's knuckles aren't all hashed up from the slates on the roof edge. Looks like a few tiles on the outbuildings are loose. I've heard that moss on roofs in Wales is a common issue, and that there is some product you can spray on to discourage it. (Not a problem I have here in Southern California, where it was 94F (34C) today.) Just getting rid of those plants sticking up will make you feel better each time you look outside. The bridge is such a wonderful feature; very unique to your location. I think I see a purple butterfly bush on the right, a few feet in from the trimmed edge. It will be nice to have some large flowering shrubs of your choosing, trimmed so they look tidy and don't block the view.

Delighted to see that Gill has upgraded his lawnmower but now needs to upgrade his brush cutter, to a more powerful petrol model - damn the environment. Did you ever discover who had cleaned the space next to the bridge ?? And I agree with one of the other comments - Gill should be using gloves when working. And on the health and safety rant - Gill may need to add rubber feet or stability feet to his ladder. I had a bad fall in May while painting the front of our holiday home and subsequently added wall anchors on the plinth to prevent a repeat event. It’s tough work keeping the shrubbery in control but he’s doing a brilliant job. Keep it up. Ps. Lidl in Ireland are selling a 4 in 1 petrol garden tool( hedge cutter, brush cutter, weed eater and mini chain saw ) for €130.00 and it seems to be well built. I bet Lidl uk have it too.

Nice progress, its looking so good so far, the old gal must be breathing easy again finally. Next biggie is the replacement or repair of the inside roof beams?, I missed if your going to try to save the metal ones that someone put in to replace the original wooden ones, seeing the mess they left of what they left of the supports just makes my heart ache, and fixing that is going to be such a project. Wondering how your going to do the second floor restoration and showing off the tall windows that were impacted with they did the metal beam work. What a Mess you walked into, its going to be fabulous when done. Best Wishes.

It looks like there's a high point in the guttering on the canopy right in the middle so the water on the right can't drain. Gill, brush cutting in shorts can be painful! Believe me! Can I recommend you grab a pair of hiking gaiters? The type that fasten at the back with velcro, they're cheap and go a long way to protect your lower legs from debris which leaves little cuts and grazes in your shins

When the line runs out in the Strimmer, find a heavier gauge line at least .95 or greater... I have substantial blackberry infestations that are hard to control. The heavy line makes short work of even the heaviest stalks. Also spray or get some bleach in the gutters - it will remove more biological debris that helps the next batch of debris - and it is quite slippery for regular grit.
