Hi Derik, Jacks new bike needs a little adjustment. Saddle need to be tipped forward so it is almost vertical. Saddle height should be so jack can reach the ground with both toes at the same time. Steer should be moved a little backward. These adjustments will give Jack a better control over his cool new bike. Best Steffen

@@DrJ4712 Thanks for your very relevant comment. I can add that in addition to your suggestion, you should bring your kid to the bike store when buying, so the bike can be fittet to the kid. You start with a smaller bike to learn on then you go to a bigger bike that makes a lot more sense

It’s okay to fall when riding a bike. I did it many many times. You learn, and struggle, but it builds confidence, strength, and mostly endurance to handle unpleasant events. Jack did amazingly well even on his first try!! I wish Sarah great success in this endeavor! She deserves that! And you are a fabulous Dad Guy! I think you made the right choice with the larger bike. He has some experience and he will grow fast. Teaching kids that falling is a part of it, how to fall and where to fall is important for their safety. The only thing I would recommend is knee pads, especially if he's in shorts. It looks like it would be much easier for Jack to ride if the seat was adjusted forward. It would also let his legs hang lower. The bike is not too big. He would grow out of a smaller one really quick. Great ride!

Excellent parenting tip, Derik! Kids need to learn that if they fall, they can dust themselves off and get back up. It can be applied to all aspects of life. Helicopter parenting is the worst for kids bc they expect parents to hold their hands thru everything. My own kids are a bit older than yours (12 & 14) and I always saw the helicopter parents on the playground when they were little. Learning independence at an early age gives them the courage to try new things and become leaders.

Jack will be fine on his pedal bike. He has fantastic co-ordination. Spills are part of life. As children we only had our Mum and Dad's bikes to ride. We managed, spills and thrills galore. Both children have grown so much. Sunny is so blonde now.
