8:16 i was raised mormon, mainly due to my dad, and my maternal grandmother always told my mom that after she dies, she better not “make her a mormon”. when she did pass, my dad pressured her to do a baptism for the dead for her (and a temple sealing with her ex husband, to make matters worse) and she caved. on the way home from the temple, my mom got VIOLENTLY ill and they had to pull over. it could’ve just been from nerves and guilt, but my mom was always convinced that she was being punished by her mom for going against her wishes. she always regretted it.

I once went into this metaphysical store and there was a warning about stealing. i don't think it was the regular "you're being recorded, theft is punishable blah blah" but more of a casual sign that said something unique about being punished for stealing I remember seeing it and not thinking about it much and I pocketed a pentacle necklace "for protection" as I was just really starting my craft at 13 and was living in an abusive household. within 30 seconds I felt unbelievably nauseous and I'll and decided to go outside to get some fresh air. I git outside and walked up to the car door, car parked directly in front of the shopdoor & up against the sidewalk, and before I could even grab the handle I began vomiting profusely. so much vomit. i had just eaten McDonald's, and I threw up an unbelievable amount of strawberry shake, fries, and chicken nuggets. it was absolutely _more than I even ate,_ as when we got home I _continued to vomit for another half hour into the tub._ that day I learned that magic is _absoluely real._ whatever curse befell me seemed to continue on for _years_ as i went through literal hell, manipulated into sort of causing the events that led to my own unwarranted and false imprisonment for 3 years, homelessness/couch surfing several months after the imprisonment, isolation and bullying during it, multiple assaults of different kinds, and an abusive relationship, all before I found the pendant, took it to the river (fire hadn't worked), prayed deeply to be forgiven and washed of my transgressions by the universe and my gods, and gave the pendant to the river to be cleansed. afterwards, shit seriously settled down quite a bit. not sure if the hell I experienced was linked to the pendant as I don't know why a 13 year old would be punished so severely but it certainly feels like it was.

Im gen z, not gen alpha, but i think the reason skibidi toilet has so much appeal is because it feels like an inside joke. Like how sometimes you have jokes with your friends that you could never explain to other people (the context/joke itself but also just why its funny), and this feels like that but its more like a whole generation's inside joke. I have a little bit of faith in these kids, that they dont sit down to watch these videos and go "hm yes that was excellent entertainment". Its that it's fun to send stupid things to your friends, its fun to say "skibidi" in front of your teacher/parents when they have no clue what it means, and it's fun to follow the ridiculous lore now. It's not that their humor is that different from ours, its that we all kinda forgot how dumb we were when we were 13.

This show may seem ridiculous to yall right now, but it has actual production, sound design, great music choices, and so many references to actually great pieces of media that kids will be exposed to. I also disagree that "there's nothing to hold onto" about the show. This guy is clearly very good at creating suspense, introducing characters and making the audience invested. It's pretty much a meta sorta joke. The thing is making fun of itself. I can go on a whole rant about it, honestly.

There’s a drag queen named Flamy Grant (named after Christian pop singer Amy Grant) who’s a former worship leader. She makes progressive Christian country/rock music, and she recently topped the iTunes contemporary Christian charts which really peed off a lot of conservative Christians and televangelists. She was also put forward for Grammy consideration, but they moved her from the Christian music category to the pop category because there’s a song on her album that includes the word “cock”, and apparently that automatically disqualified her from the Christian category (the song itself was about sexism in the church, and I can’t remember the exact lyric but it was something along the lines of “I didn’t know having a cock was a prerequisite to being a church leader”). I’d love for Rhett to duet with her after hearing him talk about his deconstruction and his music!

I thought this was gonna be "Rhett watches a weird video series and talks about it," but man, this is so much more. This definitely intrigues me to check out more of Sad Boyz! The quality of content and ability to have an intellectual conversation about literally anything is really impressive and comforting to watch. Great stuff, guys!!

32:36 Rhett your deconstruction series was an important catalyst for me to finally open up to the idea of leaving my faith behind. It had been percolating for a long time, but seeing two people I respect be open and honest about their decision made it so much easier to be open and honest with myself. Thank you and Link both.

What I loved most was the contrast of their two decisions. Rhett was so factual (history shows these stories to be false). Link was so emotional (how can you tell me to hate my friend/business partner). Two entirely different ways of arriving at the same conclusion.

I'm in my early 30s and this video is how I learned about Skibiddi Toilet. I joked about Skibiddi Toilet at work the other day, and one of my clients told me she stopped letting her son (now 3 years old) watch Skibiddi Toilet videos because she worried it was impeding his potty training/scaring him, but that was a false alarm. What a time to be alive

I feel like Skibidi Toilet is just exactly what a majority of middle schoolers find funny, which is why it is popular. From my experience, a lot of their humor is randomness for the sake of randomness. The thought process that “I don’t get this, I’m getting out of touch” is simply because people don’t regularly interact with kids age 10-13, the target audience. Middle schoolers like stuff because they like stuff, there isn’t that much more to it. That’s not bad, it’s not good, it’s just how people work.

The Social Network was filmed at my college lol. So all the exterior shots of "Harvard" are actually Hopkins, but then the interiors were all studio sets, so it was them walking into like the chemistry building and it's somehow a dorm and things like that. So weird to watch. Also when I was applying to colleges my choices came down to Carnegie Mellon and Hopkins. I said no to Carnegie Mellon, and it was definitely the best decision I ever made.

I worked at my ymca’s summer camp this year and one of the kids spent a collective 4 hours over the span of two weeks on painstakingly describing all of the lore of skibidi toilets to me. The entire series is like an hour long. I could not tell him i didn’t want to hear about it or he very likely would have had a full blown violent meltdown. There was no escape. It was torture

@annalisa9755 Oh gosh, I feel your pain :D I once had my seven yr old niece spend over two hours, explaining (I think) the plot of one of those puppy “paw patrol” movies and no lie, at least 10 times she stopped and had to go right back to the beginning to clarify some mind-numbing minor point in the plot! This was all while she was sitting on my lap kind of flopped over staring off into the distance while she talked having a lovely time and I didn’t have the heart to stop her 🧸 Love her like chocolate ❤ but I did come to understand the emotional and mental state of an animal that would chew its own leg off to get out of a trap!

As someone whose mom is Scottish and can trace my lineage on her side all the way to Vikings (possibly via Ireland?) who settled in Scotland a veeeeeeeeeery long time ago, I find Rhett’s Scotland/Ireland lineage mixup so funny. It’s very easy to do, and neither one usually minds being confused for the other. However! If you think it’s Scotland or Ireland, and it turns out to be England? You’re getting hell for it 😂 Helpful tip: Mac- is usually Scottish, and Mc- is usually Irish ❤️

I feel like skibidi toilet is fully in line with what SFM animation/music videos have been doing for years with creators like an0nymoose and Eltorro64. I also think the evolution of skibidi toilet is not that surprising, dark subversions of funny/cute material is rampant on youtube as well (mickey mouse/goofy in the vietnam war, existential crisis ronald mcdonald). And the source assets also lend themselves well to creating a dystopian warzone. But these tropes reaching such a big audience is definitely new.
