I never realized how efficient the intake and exhaust ports being on the same side is for turbos! You don't have to do all sorts of wacky collector and intake tubes everywhere, it's just a neat little package. I love it. Like it was meant to be. He wants it quicker off the line, said it has an 8.75 rear end with 3.23 gears -- it's easy to pop the carrier and go 3.55 gears. Don't let the 4.11 gears tempt you. Since there's a turbo, it wants to be revved but that long 4.125" stroke could limit things. Grab a 3.64" stroke crank from grandma's 198 cu. in. slant six. Despite 10% less displacement, it might produce more power if it can rev 20% higher, and give surprising torque from the turbo feeding the 198's longer rod/shorter stroke combination. Coupled to the aforementioned 3.55 gears you'll spool the turbo up into its useful range much sooner and get maximum benefit from it at higher rpm's.

Wow, I would have thought the VE to be '67 or '68, since the VF was introduced in March of '69. Yours must have been one of the last VEs off the assembly line. PS: I was lucky enough to get my hands on a VG Pacer hardtop as my first car, back in the '80s, so I have a soft spot for the hemi...but I had an AP5 a couple of years later, so I can appreciate the 225 slant with the 904 Torqueflite (pushbutton auto!) as well. :-D

GM used the draw through on 3 vehicles. The Buick 215 V-8- The Corvair Spyder Monza. had a draw through using a Webber side draft. And the first gen Buick V-6 with a quadrajet. Dont need a blow off valve ,or waist gate or even a cooler. Dont make the power all that other stuff does. But is much more user and driver friendly. You do have to have a special turbo blade on the intake side. Do to impact with the gas droplets . Dig into this Uncle Tone. I want to do one myself for a long time. There are after market kits that show up from time to time on Ebay.

@gg51154 жыл бұрын
If it lasts 1000 miles on 8 psi I'll be surprised. There's a reason the builder set it to 5 psi. It sounds great and somewhat faster than stock. That's good enough for a lot of us.
@victormiranda91634 жыл бұрын
@@gg5115 I think the issue is getting the power to be generated where the engine will survive it. At 2k to 2.5k rpm you want all that boost, and the turbo will be anemic there ( I am guessing the 8 that supplied the turbo flows more exhaust) If you get enough boost at the low revs you will need relief at 4,000. If I had started this project I have hunted a turbo for a 2.5 to 3 liter engine to have the turbo spin up faster in lower flow. this is because the 6 is not regarded as a high rpm engine. I'd treat it as a high speed diesel.

I think CARS magazine did one of these, but the hairdryer came off a 62 Buick. Can't remember if there was a Hyperpak intake involved, but i think it was all fueled by a sidedraft but i can't remember what car that was pulled from, maybe a brit sportscar? Throwing "mindgames" toys like this for cheap is fun on the streets. Like the time a friend and I had nitrous on a "361" and hooked an oil squirt can to the exhaust. We'd go for a run, and spray some oil into the exhaust system on the return, like it was burning oil out the piston rings. the more races we got, the more squirts we put in, until the "high rollers" kept betting just to see the engine blow. They probably still swear a 361 will never blow up no matter what :) Its like trying 3 card monte on some young fellas who "know everything". I can see a car like this really lasso'ing in some LS fan bois who think the sun rises and sets on their coil packs.
