Stallions fight each other for mates and geldings are calm with one another. So, it is the safety for Spidey to not be injured by Rising Star while play fighting. And they can be together in the pasture. They are becoming friends and have so much in common.

Yes but they still cannot be together yet, being gelded won't entirely take away their stallion instincts, they'll still be a bit frisky for a while.

​@@obiwankenobi6952 Risey seems super chill for a colt his age anyways, doesn't he? I would have rather expected a 2 1/2 year old to take more of an interest in the ladies. Or be more bossy and temperamental generally. He's basically as good-natured as most geldings as it is. Of course, we have never seen him with a mare in heat in close proximity.

Great that you have decided to geld Spidey and Rising Star. It's the best for both. It's like male dogs and cats, unless you are planning to breed them, you have to neuter and spay. In this case keeping intact stallions around mares is simply asking for trouble in the barn. You are wise Obie One Yvonne. 😍😎❤👍👍👍

I am regretful, yet relieved that you have reached a decision to geld Spidey and Risey. As stallions they would be so difficult to keep at Stal H. And Risey's condition would not support stallion behavior. Selfishly, this means that I can all continue to enjoy their company along with everyone else. And I rejoice in another walk in the woods!👍

I understand Rising Star being gelded but I had hoped that Spidey would become a Stallion. However I know it would be difficult to keep him with the other Shetland ponies if he was. I think we have been through this Forrest before with you and Uniek perhaps 2 years ago. It’s very very beautiful in the Forrest🌞🌠💗🇨🇦

As I understand it, Spidey is of unknown lineage. The only reason to keep a stallion in your stable is to breed him. Since both Spidey and Rising Star are most likely not going to be used for breeding, then a happy, calm life sounds like just the thing for both of them.

In the case of gelding Rising Star, . . . I shall look foward to the day when he can become the "Sjors" of Stal H. I can see him in the pasture with the Mares now, acting as guardian and protector - providing that his Wobblers heals well enough to make that possible. Thanks for the ride in the forest! I enjoyed it very much! (Special Thanks to your babysitter, too. A 4-hour ride at a place that is an hour away from home, is an all day affair.) 👁💙Friesian 🐎🐎🐎!

Thank you to all of you who know about horses. I was feeling sad that Rising Star would not be able to fully express the beauty of his breed and thought with the presence of his Wobblers it was not going to happen anyway. But the gelding will allow him to live with something of a quality of life and it won’t take away from his beauty.

It was lovely to see Yvonne , Uneik, Oda & Hester out on these beautiful trails. The news of Spidey & Risey becoming geldings makes sense. With so many mares around the boys are bound to get a bit crazy when the ladies are in heat. Safer to have the boys gelded. Then they can hang out with the mares & possibly with each other. It was cute to see the boys making friends through the fence.

You are very wise Yvonne. Both horses will benefit from your decision to geld them. They are beautiful and have wonderful personalities, but not suitable to breed. This way they can remain an important part of part of the Stal H group Look at how well Sjors does. You are truly putting the welfare of both horses ahead of everything else.

This is such a great video. It's got the best of everything. I'm a little sad about Risey, but I feel it's for the best. Both boys will get to be friends, and Risey can finally settle into his herd. Spidey and Risey are wonderful characters. They are sweet and joyful. That's not a bad life at all. As a matter of fact, all of this is an unfolding miracle. Risey is healing slowly, but he is healing. Spidey needs a friend. A new baby from Uniek will be born soon, thanks to Corella. And Yvonne, you continue to heal, and everyone is thriving. Although I too hoped to see some baby Rising Stars someday, I trust and know that Yvonne is making the best decision for our beloved Prince. I have a 30 year old highly dominant male Blue and Gold Macaw that is STILL full of hormones and untrustworthy around other humans or animals. I should have had him neutered when he was 5, but there was no exotics vet in my area willing to do it. This is the long way to say that Yvonne is doing what is right and proper for Risey. 💙💫

I had wondered if gelding Risey would help in his treatment. He is becoming a Paka Sjors and might be able, once things hormonal, settle, be in the pasture with the mares. It's so lovely Yvonne and one of her besties, Oda, have gone out into the woodlands of Friesland. The videos of Yvonne in the forests were amongst my favorites as we saw many interesting places.

It seems like a very logical decision to me to geld both Spidey and Rising Star. Spidey's father is unknown so therefore there are question marks on his ancestry which would make him too risky as a breeding stud. And as for Risey, well, wobbler's has taken being an approved stallion out of the question. In that case, gelding can improve both their quality of life in the long term - and most importantly means they can be kept with a herd where they can thrive. I am glad therefore that this decision has been made.

Not quite. Spidey's father is unknown. Yvonne got Daisy unaware that she was preggers. Johnny is the sire of Mario and Peach.😎

Mario and peach are from johnny daisy was pregnant with spidey when yvonne bought her so not johnny. The combo of johnny and the shetlands creates a taller childs riding pony so a good breed cross generally as the children do not grow out of them as quickly as a shetland too. Shetties are great paddock companions and pets too so gelding makes sense totally for those usages.

You Definitely have Riseys best interests at heart. Gelding him is probably the best choice for him especially with his balance issues. It takes away the hazards of acting like a stallion. Hes such a good looking boy, and a total sweetheart. He and Spidey are lucky to have you caring for them.

I am glad to hear that Risey and Spidey will be gelded. In Risey’s case, especially….I know you are super careful with the horses, but what if Risey somehow got access to a mare and tried to mount her with weak back legs.? They’d both end up hurt. Best to get rid of that instinct and let him concentrate on growing strong. And Spidey will be happier if he can hang with the other ponies again.

Horses are very social animals, so if Spidey and Risey are gelded they will be able to integrate with others more easily, like Sjors is together with the mares at Stal G. Risey looks more calm and relaxed. Great video!! 💙❤️💙❤️👑💫

You can usually always catch Risey and Spidey standing next to each other and Risey really just wants to get a little closer for a better Sniff😂 I really enjoy watching you and Uniek ride. The decision to geld couldn't have been easy but, given the wobbler, you wouldn't be able to breed him. Now the hormones won't drive him and maybe he'll heal better. And he will integrate into the herd better, like Sjors. The ride you & Oda took looks so fun and relaxing. Wish I could've joined you!😁

I think it's the best idea to have Risey gelded. He's too close in proximity to the mares which he would be detecting them when in season. It would be uncomfortable for him and his behavior could be stirred up. He's so beautiful that I would have liked if he could mate with a KWPN like himself and produce a beautiful foal. However, with the Wobblers, it's in the best interest of his health and safety that he is gelded. Then he'd be able to have more friends and be with the females in the pasture. And with Spidey gelded, he can get together with Risey as a friend. They seem to like each other.

I had no idea that Uniek and Hester shared the same Dam line; a shared maternal lineage. Thekla was a wonderful dam, judging by the quality of her offspring. The forest ride is so beautiful, and the cold water is very beneficial for the horses’ legs at the end of the ride. I think Spidey would love to have a friend again in Risey, when they are geldings. It would be good for them both. 💜

Don't you just love the dappled sunlight through the greenery🤗? I had always thought Risey was so handsome and had such a sweet temperament that he could be a magnificent stallion and have lots of new penny colored foals around.

It’s an excellent idea to geld Risey & Spidey for everyone’s (human & stallions’) health & safety. Risey will be calmer and have a chance to continue healing in a quiet manner. I always enjoy the forest rides and seeing the wilder parts of Friesland. It’s beautiful country. It reminds me a bit of parts of Florida where it’s also mostly flat and we have grasslands near the water. Also, thanks, Yvonne for sharing Uniek & Hester’s relationship. The sire lines are easily found, but for dam lines, it’s usually either a stam number or the predicate . I wonder if there is a picture somewhere of Uniek’s late dam, Thekla? I remember a video in which one of the vets who visited talked about what a great horse she was, that she also had achieved the Sport predicate, and that her breeder was also a vet.

Im glad Risey and Spidey are being gelded. That's the only way to keep them calmer, especially Risey. I was getting worried when nothing was said about it, but no worries. Your ride through the forest was beautiful and relaxing to watch. Thanks for sharing. 🙂❤️

What a wonderful video today...I have so enjoyed and needed it. So time to "fix" the boys huh, it will be good for them. Thank you to the individuals who filmed you and Oda, thank you!! The forest was beautiful and enjoyed looking at the surroundings. As for the wolves, they should stay but controlled but if you have animals that are being killed you should have the right to kill if dangering your property and animals. We really have to remember its us humans who are taking away the habitat of the wild. Ok off my soapbox lol Continued hugs and prayers for you and Rising Star.

I still get a surprise to see how Uniek makes other horses look small 😊. The gelding process is so straightforward that it makes good sense for the boys. Id love to see Spidey with a little child pal in the future. My heart still aches for Risey, being so restricted by his condition at an age when he would normally be full of beans 😢

Lovely to see this forest ride. It is very beatifull there. To answer your question about the wolf. Because it came on his own in The Netherlands without interfering by humans I believe it has the right the be here. We were responsabele for its disappearing. Like all changes in climate and culture, we are the ones who should addapt. Because we have the means and brains to do so.

I'm sad there will not be a mini-me Risey but his health and welfare come first. The original is plenty special. Also for Spidey I would have liked to see if his socks and blaze would have passed. But he needs company more.

It must be mentally stimulating for the horses to go somewhere different! So pleased about the two colts, hopefully it will help Rising Star with his condition 🥰🥰 I am not a rider as such but have done a few horse treks on my travels around the world and really enjoyed the ride along with you guys, it brought back some memories!

You have wonderful riding trails in the Netherlands. Donkeys are great at protecting livestock and as an alarm when wolves are around. I was quite surprised to see how they can take care of a predator like a wolf or coyote. Gelding Risey and Spidey make sense. They'll both have a better quality of life being able to have friends.

I am happy and pleased to watch rising star enjoying himself in his pasture or field,the treatment that he got a while ago seems to help him move better even though he has wobblers in his back legs.Will he be getting more treatments on his neck and body this year?
