I will never understand why Harold Ramis protested against their relationship. At least it was somewhat expanded on in the animated series. In RGB, it was revealed Egon did have feelings for her, and in XGB, they were still good friends and close.

@@lofthouse23 even in the Cartoon, it was seldom romantic and generally one sided. The one time He and Jeannine did go on a date, Egon refused to allow it to be called a “date” by Peter. The reason why is Egon is a 100% workaholic nerd. He’s the type who’s married to his work and I think Harold Ramis knew it. Those kind of people find romance and relationships a distraction from intellectual pursuits... at least until later in life and/or they meet someone as nerdy as themselves, which is rare. They do exist.

I love how the Real Ghostbusters allowed Janine and Egon to have a more sweetly romantic relationship. At first, Egon seems unsure about it, but in the episode "Janine, you've changed," he finally admits he loves her and at the end of the episode asks her out while they sit and watch the sunset. I love that scene!

I adored the cartoons, every series, because it gave us more time with the "sidekick" characters. The graphic novels are awesome too, really fleshing out the characters. Even as a Ghostbuster, we never got enough Winston.
