I love their, let's say, selective smartness. I have corn snakes and when I need them out of the way/my hands free for a moment, I park them in a transparent container with spare substrate (lovingly called the dirt box) because they (but especially one of them) love to dig around in it. Most of the time it's digging time but sometimes, they spot something on the other side of the wall that just has to be checked out NOW. It's not a big box, it's not even four inch to the top but yeah. Cue highly confused and frustrated snakes who just don't get it. But as soon as I put a book or piece of paper against the wall from outside - instant calm down, the snake looks up and just calmly reaches for the top and climbs up and out of the box. Works every time with both snakes. Side observation: Boop the snake nose as gently as physically possible: OOOH the agony, the torture, the cruelty, the pain, Snake God Glycon, why you have forsaken me? Glass wall: just let me knock my nose against this hard surface for another five minutes, no problem, all in a day's work. I love my idiots.
