CHRISTINA and husband Bill have two daughters, Grace 4, and Joy, 2 - but they felt like they were missing something after suffering a miscarriage six years ago. So after watching a documentary, Christina looked into it and bought her first reborn doll. She now has four dolls that she takes out on family outings and various family events. Bill says: "We love these dolls and we treat them like they are members of our family" and tells Truly that "feeding six children in the morning is quite hard to do". Christina knows that she has a lot of trolls on the internet who don't agree with the hobby but she doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon.

I understand the effect a miscarriage has on a woman both physically and mentally as I’ve gone through 4 myself, 1 of them was at the end of my 1st trimester. To me this seems a bit excessive and has the chance of damaging her relationship with her two real daughters. I think she needs grief counseling.

A local woman in my town had a miscarriage and mental breakdown. She has a real life baby doll named Mary that she takes to the doc, changes her and basically treats it like her baby. Her husband still is with her and cares for her. She literally had a mental break and is now disabled . It’s soo sad. So I don’t judge women that go through this.

My issue is that if they're treating them like real babies, that means the parents are spending a hell of a lot of time pampering and paying attention to dolls that aren't actually real. That time could go to their actual daughters who need their undivided attention in their formative years. I understand the need for a woman to want to care for something after the death of a child, but the fact that she seems still so torn up and emotional about it, even saying that she barely ever speaks about the pain of the death makes me think that this fake doll obsession could be harmful to her mental health. I hope she gets psychiatric help and that her husband wakes up and stops encouraging this infatuation.

This actually seems quite heartbreaking. I can see the woman's grief at the loss of her babies and her mother. It is sad, however, that time and attention are taken from the daughters to "care for" dolls. The 24/7 role play seems more like pathology than healthy coping.

I would honestly be curious to see how the daughters feel about their mother's unusual coping mechanism once they are grown adults, because I wonder if they will grow up to accept or resent their mother's attention being so divided. I think the mother should also consider seeing a therapist to work through her trauma. Yes therapy isn't cheap, but This could be a more affordable alternative to dolls that can cost up to 10 thousand dollars each!

If this is real...the children, as they get older and see how other families function, are going to realise how strange this whole set up is. To role play that 4 of your children are real when they aren't is so unhealthy for all involved but I am guessing they will continue regardless of what anyone says. I really hope they decide in the future to get some counselling and find a healthier way to deal with their issues. As a Midwife in training, I hope to see better services for grieving mothers and fathers.

Do you ever play pretend with them like this mom? And if so how did you’re real kids react? Im just curious how it’s going to effect those two little girls in the long run. Im not trying to judge her. Or send hate to the Community. From what I have seen with these dolls is they are an amazing coping mechanism for mothers who have lost a child. But not to this extent. Because if she really does treat them like real newborns then they would pretty much take up all of her time away from the girls.
@julzluvzdollz
@julzluvzdollz 2 жыл бұрын
@@elliedavidow9364 no I don’t. I dress them and pose them. I have a beautiful doll room that I have built up and decorated that also doubles as my office. I do not bring my dolls outside of my room. The only time it takes from my children is when I’m crafting, changing dolls or making videos with them. My family is ok with what I do as they see it as a fun hobby for me and it encourages creativity with my daughter to keep “playing” as she’s entering adolescence when it’s not so cool to play and collect anything toy like. Now my dolls are not toys but in a way they are adult toys to me that’s how I view them. And yes these dolls bring great comfort to grieving mothers or women who cannot conceive which is amazing that they actually have so many benefits to so many different people. But to address what you said about how the lady’s children might feel, I think we are all doing the best we can as parents. I’m sure she loves her children very much but the reality is we all have to navigate issues even as parents and our children will see this as sometimes there is no way to completely shelter them from our traumas.

Dolls similar to these are wonderful for many Alzheimer and Dementia patients. Many of the people love holding the "babies" and they relate to them as if they were live little ones. What matters at that point is some form of contentment and security, which many (especially ladies) find with having a baby to nurture. It takes them back to one of the happiest times of their lives.

I am an R.N. and worked in long-term care for many years. Having baby dolls are so beneficial for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. Especially for female patients. It not only gives them something tangible to hold but it gives them a purpose, or a job. it’s their purpose to continue to care for the babies like they were real babies. it helps to keep them calm, and behaviors of acting out decrease drastically. Their day becomes busy with dressing, feedings, bathing, etc. It also allows for interaction with others, as “parents” are proud of their “babies” and want others to see them and dote on them. It’s really is lovely to watch patients with their babies. It allows for them to show who their are at their core before the horrible effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia took over their Lives.

Exactly! Imagine having to grow up watching your parents "take care" of a bunch of dolls. Just because they're giving the girls basic needs doesen't mean they aren't damaging their well being by having to grow up with some fake newborns for years...

These dolls really help with infertility and depression and anxiety for some people, especially someone who has had a miscarriage. The little girls love the dolls now, but when they get older, if their parents take the dolls out in public they could get very embarrassed, especially when the girls are teenagers. If people like doing this and it makes them happy, I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as it doesn't interfere with the relationship the parents have with their real children.

She doesn’t actually do this. She’s an attention seeker. They want fame. Nothing more. She keeps the dolls for a few days and then sells them for a different one. I don’t think she’s kept one longer than a few months. Which is fine, that’s what doll collectors do, but she’s trying to act like she cares for them like they are real. She openly admitted on Instagram that her family does not really act this way and treat them as babies all day. She’s a liar and wants fame. Many reborn collectors are very angry with her right not because of how she ridiculously portrayed us. We are doll collectors…that’s it. It’s merely a hobby. I’m luckily if I can find 10 mins a day to make videos with the dolls or change their outfits. And most collectors are the same. This woman should not be trying to be a spokesperson for this hobby. They are beautiful works of art , they are comforting to hold, and fun to dress up. That’s it! And every reborn collector I’ve ever encountered would say the same. Please don’t listen to this woman lol. And I’d you come into contact with another reborn collector do not judge based on this. Because this is insane. And I know you were not judging the collectors as a whole, I’m just trying to put the word out because, again, the way this woman portrayed us is disgusting.

I’m mad at the husband. Clearly his wife is suffering a horrible mental health crisis. And rather than telling her no because he’s “scared” he gives in and even jeopardizes his kids mental health. Mental illness is a disease that spreads and clearly it’s gotten the whole family. Sure it stemmed from the wife but who knows who past trauma? It’s up to the spouse to recognize she’s sick and help her. This is not helping her it’s making her more sick, ruining the family, and alienating her from normal people. The fact she’s obsessed with not kids but newborns is a sickness it’s not like she can adopt other kids to help ease the pain. It only comes from newborns? That’s sick? I hope she used the money she got from this video to get help. She probably bought more dolls though 🤦🏼‍♀️

We love to research the history of dolls, dress and display our dolls and share our dolls with other dolly friends on social media. We've also met some really fun people on social media through our hobby, including Christina. We have encountered quite a number of people within the reborn community who have purchased dolls to deal with trauma and grief and assumptions should not be made that they haven't sought professional help or that they neglect their children. The art of "reborning" a blank kit to look like a real infant is really quite spectacular.

Actually my grand-mother lost her son within a night due to the sudden infant death syndrome. He was five months old and she managed to cope with it thanks to a doll because she needed to accomplish her duty as a young mom who stopped being a mother in less than 2 hours. She had still breast milk and all the hormones of a new parent. That lasted a year and my father is still traumatized by it but more about the loss of his brother and what it has caused to the family in general. As a result, he and my mother would check on us (my siblings and I) every 30 minutes for a year. One would sleep the whole night while the other one would keep an eye. And my grand-parents would call everyday to know how we slept. That's perhaps miscarriage as well which would explain why there are so many dolls. I wish this family the best and hope that they will find peace someday. The girls can grow and become great people. My father is the best man of my life after my son.

This makes me feel sad actually. The more she is in her denial and uses this as a coping mechanism, the worse things will go crashing down after a few years in the future. It will come, sooner or later. It will eventually hurt her financially (Idk what she or her husband do for a living, or if they get paid from KZbin or something, but she already spent fortune on these.... dolls. It seems like there will be more to come) Her real daughters might be well taken care of, in terms of feeding, buying them clothes, sending them to school, etc, but they will grow up seeing that their mom has a psychological problem that needs to be treated, then probably will resent her for her actions. It looks like, from her Instagram or social media, those dolls are more of her kids than her actual kids. That's just my opinion, but I'm sorry, this does not and will never sit right for me. This is like watching some disturbing horror movies, to be honest. P/S: I just checked out her KZbin channel, and she actually carried these dolls out in public like real babies. $10K for a doll!!! I'm in the wrong line of work. As a 35 year old single male, I had a friend who was kind enough to let me hold her daughter and rock her to sleep. I can't explain it but the joy of holding a baby and getting her to fall asleep was awesome! It was a calming presence and at the same time like I conquered the world. I don't want kids. I never have. I never will. l can see how this hobby is strange but I also see the potential for it being therapeutic. In my humble opinion as long as the person can still distinguish between fantasy and reality and it's not harmful then let them enjoy their hobby. I would rather live in a world where people had newborn dolls than kept having kids and contributing to the overpopulation crisis. Granted if I had $10K to spend I would hope that I went on a vacation or purchased an ATV or something. Babies are cute. But my philosophy is be a cool aunt or uncle and help raise the kids but leave the responsibility for serious support to Mom and Dad. I wish this family the best of luck.

Your comment seemed insensitive and judgmental in itself. Yet you speak of being judged. Reborn dolls are apart of an artistic (doll) collectors community. However, reborn dolls, also have many other purposes then just for collecting. It is a coping, therapeutic, an a healing mechanism for some. This lady lost her mom and lost another chance at mothering her own newborn. Unless you suffered a loss as such, you can’t label or judge her. Her daughters appear to be happy and healthy they included in this process. For her to be a better wife and mother, this is how she’s choosing to heal and function verses depressed or isolated. Ppl will think you’re “unstable and crazy” as you put it, simply for collecting lifelike dolls that are very costly. No matter what you do it’s opinionated ppl that will take issue with your choices in life. If this woman is deemed “crazy an unstable” that isn’t something to frown or make her seem like a “wrong or bad” person. In the end you’re all in company of the reborn dolls, what you do with them is your choice but you’re still one in the same just different purposes. The creators im sure appreciate their dolls helping many in multiple ways. Don’t speak for a community in such a harsh divisive way. I just don’t think the creators nor the whole “reborn community” has your same view point! That’s what’s “wrong” about the community when there’s labels. Do you and let others do them….

They should not be insulted, yes they are scary realistic but that’s the whole point. they’ve been shown to help people with dementia and a coping mechanism with anxiety. unfortunately they can be used as a crutch but let’s not blame the entire reborn community for that. Nor the person struggling with the mental health problems. I’m glad this women found these dolls but I hope she seeks further professional help with her grief ♥️

I do the same thing. My therapist and psychiatrist feel it is good for me to calm myself. It isn't easy with borderline personality disorder and cptsd. Now I don't do the 24/7 role play thing but I do cuddle with it at home when I'm severely stressed. I could be doing worse things to cope like drugs and alcohol but this is much better for me.

She says "it gets her more mentally in a state as to where they are her real babies". That line alone would have pushed me to adopt. It must be so sad to have to replace real human love with dolls. Since ppl cant read i clearly said ME. My own personal opinion for myself. Ik what it's like to replace love with inanimate object and ik i would want to adopt to actually have a child in my life. So what does them and their ability to adopt or not have to do with what i said when i clearly wrote ME?

I also lost two pregnancies in week 10, I know how difficult it is and how long it takes to recover. I wonder why they do not adopt live babies, because there is a lot of unwanted and abandoned children. they would be great parents. I am not surprised by the reaction of people - it is strange and requires psychological help to recover from the trauma.

I thought something was wrong with me when I bought reborn babies of my own, but after watching this I know now that I'm normal. I lost my twins back in 2003 and then found out I can no longer have kid's. So I bought myself some reborn twins. I named them Emily and Levi and yes, I care for them like they were real babies. I can definitely relate to this for sure.

Hello Emily. Thank you for sharing. I apologize for your loss. In spite of your sentence with doctors and specialist you may transcend this by exercising faith. Just be reminded that those dolls cannot replace the ultimate void. It may work now but, will fail miserably @ some point. Turn to the Person who can, you'll be amazed @ the full peace and contentment you will experience. You're blessed. 🙂

I'm so glad that she's found comfort in this. However, the amount of resources that these dolls are taking away from 2 living children is just absurd. The amount of money, time, effort, emotion, attention that's going into the moms toys instead of their daughters is sad.

@@itsmezoezee2062 time and attention are still being taken away from their daughters regardless of going weeks without indulging in this hobby. During the times they are active in this roll playing/ hobby, time and attention are being taken away from their daughters. I fully recognize that everyone has hobbies that they need and deserve and so not every second will go into their kids, I'm absolutely not saying they should stop this. But they need to regulate it and put their daughters first ALWAYS which they aren't exactly doing when they are starting everyone's day in a hectic and exhausting mess and then playing with these dolls instead of focusing on their daughters at the park.

I had 1 stillborn baby girl at birth & 2 miscarriages...its brutal and screws with you mentally and physically. Whatever helps her cope and deal with the loss is fine in my opinion, she knows and understands the fact that they are not real and are dolls,she isnt broken to the point where she can no longer or want to care for her own 2 children, her kids seem fine and well cared for and clean. Shes not broken/shes hurting and trying to fill in the loss ... I started bying horse's to fill in my empty hole. Nothing wrong with her or with what shes doing ,everyone cope different and goes through different levels of mourning . Strength & courage honey 💖
