Last year, for Christmas, I bought a little handheld chain saw from Amazon. I spent a whole month trimming my oleander bushes. I had such a blast. My backyard looks so clean now. Good luck with your renovations. Spray yourselves with bug repellant so those gnats will leave you alone.

I am 63 years old women and asked for a chain saw for Christmas last year, it’s just a little 12 inches but I am having a blast cleaning up the woods around our home. Have fun, be safe and enjoy your progress. ❤️. As for the barn maybe you could take it down but use some of the boards when building the new barn so you can have some of the old with the new.

I think when the dozer is there for the house, it better do that barn too. It would probably cost more to repair it than to replace it. If you want to stay with that type barn, you might check to see if there are any Amish builders in the area that could do them.

Love y’all’s property! If you have a volunteer fire dept near you they sometimes will burn old structures just for the experience and training for new volunteers. I know ours do here in Alabama. They do it for free too! That would save you guys some money.

When you get really seriously into the wood cutting get an expert in who knows timber. Use their knowledge to identify the timber suitable for indoor fires, timber useful for building eg garden beds, pens, leantos etc, timber that needs to be burnt. Remember firewood needs to season at least 12 months before use.

The barn is not worth paying someone to check on. You have seen why the barn has failed at that location (water path) so you'll need to relocate to a location that will allow you to keep your equipment out of the damp and mud. Consider moving some earth to build up a nice level area for both the house and a large multi-storage barns/buildings area. Think about getting a tiller attachment for your tractor for making your garden and any fodder crop acreage you will need. I like the 'step down' levels, you could remove or thin out existing trees then add in fruit and nut trees. It's fun seeing the property. Thank you for sharing it with us.

As new chainsaw user... Important to avoid hitting the ground with the chainsaw IT WILL BLUNT THE CHAIN VERY QUICKLY. This needing resharpening and decreasing life of the chain. If at all possible cut only wood abo e ground. If unavoidable with wood lying on the ground cut say jalf way roll the wood over and cut remainder agaon from top to meetup with existing cut, thus no need to gp into ground.. one posiboty is trim branches/wood hanging above ground , trimming back piece by piece until grounded trunk remains. Not cut larger part free to fall to ground. Then do the grounded remainder as above, hslf way, roll, do rest of cut. Your chainsaw will work well, with sharp saw chain longer, then after much cutting, sooner or later resharpeni g is required. After several sharpening cycles cpn sider a new chain. Also keep an eye on lubrication oil supply and correct tension for the chain, again life is dependant on proper use.

A lot of trees to be removed in the land clearing project. It may be cheaper in the long run to flag the trees you want to keep and have professional clear remaining. They can do in a day that would take weeks for you to do. Just a suggestion for your safety and cost effectiveness. It would just take them a few minutes to tear down the barn.

When the barn comes down and the boards are not rotted SAVE THEM... you won't regret it for future use. Rent machinery and clear out the area before winter. Running a bulldozer is lots of fun. DO NOT BURN THAT WOOD! You should try to pull out as much of the red planks as possible. No matter the condition. Turn that barn into $$! Stack it, or even leave it where it lays. Put an ad in the DIY & Handicrafts sections on Craig's List. List it in several towns nearby. Those boards are gold! People will travel a ways to get a whole load or just some of it. Offer it for one big price for all of it, & they pull it down. Or pull it down for them (tractor & chain) & they load & haul it for a little more.

Yes, you can! You should rent a couple different tractors, test drive. The biggest mistake is not getting a tractor that is big enough, then have to trade up for the one you really need.

FYI, when cutting saplings or cutting brush (when you get a tractor) those little stumps you leave in the ground love tires. Better to remove the hole thing.

Boys and their toys! Loved walking around your place with you both! My Dad was a Collector of Everything from trees to pipes throughout my life. We repurposed many things and built 2 homes and cusomized a VW van back in the 60s. He was an art Professor and loved to share his knowledge with others. There appears to be alot of good wood in that barn and I know there are things in the house that can be repurposed...hint hint.

You might get enough wood out of the barn by cutting off bad ends, to make an 8x10x10H tool shed and put in a gravel floor for now, use galvanized roofing, get a solar panel for lighting in it and to run or charge power tools, put a sliding barn door on it or a sealing type door to kept out critters and to lock it up 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️up to your needs! Just an idea 😍👍🙏❤️

I agree, the barn could be repaired. I'd talk to your dad, grandpa Adler. The longer it sits, the worst it will get. I'd tarp the roof to prevent more damage. It does need to be jacked up, would make a big difference along with tapping it.

You need a blade for your weed eater. You could cut all the small trees, weeds,and bushes with the blade. When you cut these, be sure to cut as low as you can to the ground. That will keep someone from tripping.

That's definitely a locust, and those thorns, besides doing some painful damage to anyone who gets stuck by one are also very rough on tires. I've seen them tear up a rear tractor tire. Although the wood is good for a lot of things, in my opinion, they're best marked for the dozer and bonfire.

I would suggest a couple extra chains for the chainsaw. That way when one gets dull change it to a new one. Then get the dull on sharpened. That or learn to sharpen them yourself.

I feel for safety you should doze it with the house. If you could get the roof peeled off and possibly save some siding. Makes for nice accent shelving/cabinet. Could use to clad a chicken coop or make a miniature barn for storage.

My husband just recently bought an Echo chainsaw with 20" bar needed a longer bar for some of the trees he cuts. He has a Stihl for his trimming now were looking into one for me to take all the limbs off . I'm excited to use one. Cut up that wood for bon fires while your working out there then you can cook over the fire. The key is just be careful. Also cut those little trees down ground level or you will be tripping over them all the time. I would keep some of the barn wood looks good. But I think it needs to come down probably cost to much to fix it up. On the chainsaws im in Missouri up by Kirksville go to the Amish if you have any close have them give you pricing for helping clear your property if there's things you can't do. We also bought our chainsaw from Amish really reasonable.

It would be a way to honor it's part of your land while re-purposing it for your new vision.

You might want to look at skid steer with tracks only you would want a bigger sized one what's nice they have so many attachment's that you can go rent them
