I thought it very thoughtful of Beth to stay up and help Carole, you could tell Carole wasn't going to bed until she had it finished. When I was pregnant with our first child we moved into a bigger home. We bought it from a lovely lady who had lived there her whole married life. It was built for her and her deceased husband. Well we decided to strip the wallpaper in one room and paint it to use as the nursery. I'm sure it used to be a boys room that was wallpapered about every five years of his life. Every time they just put the new paper over what was there already. It was quite cute seeing his tastes change as we went backwards through his life, but very annoying to remove all the layers back to plaster board.

I agree with your daughter what works in a chateau is not for a home. A home needs welcoming warmth not the cold impersonal atmosphere of the chateau.

After living in Europe, I know all homes have doors to each room to keep them warm, but I’d remove the door to the kitchen. Would make things easier for you. Glad the birds are gone, lol. Can’t wait to see what you do there.

Sorry this tricks late but I use a small sprayer with warm water and fabric softener to wet down each section if wallpaper. It isn't fast, but usually it's easier...less frustration. I can't wait to see what you choose as replacement.

I’m only halfway through the video but I wanted to recommend that you turn the mirror in the dining room to a portrait orientation AND put some tall (could be narrow) shelves on either side of it. Also drop the chandelier down a bit. It would make the ceiling seem not nearly so low. We have 4 bookcases that are 7 feet high by 4 feet wide, and I am always surprised by how much higher they make the ceiling in the room feel every time we move to a new apartment. It would give the more ornate chandelier and mirror more presence in the space.

Carol, it has to feel good to get rid of those pink flamingos. Goodbye Florida! Great idea for how to really understand the space for the kitchen. So glad it’s going to work out. I hope that the wall removal will go simply too. If it needs to have a beam, you two definitely know your way around decorating with those in the space. ♥️ Heh, I’m not gardening now either. The ground is frozen solid, like concrete, and I won’t be able to do anything until perhaps April. No planting until late May around here. 😉

I would like a door in the kitchen directly across from the dining room door. Adrian is right the door should open against the cabinets when you move them. I don’t blame you staying up taking down the pink birds I think I would have started before the movers left. I would hang the mirror opposite the window in landscape to reflect the view and light.

The dining room looks so inviting now that the threatening bird paper has been removed. Those Hot Chocolates looked delicious. I've never heard of a steam oven, now I have to go and look them up. The kitchen is going to be fabulous when you get that wall down. Carole deserves her dream kitchen and playing around with the boxes is a great idea. Once the wall comes down the far wall in the other room could have cabinets too.. plan the two rooms together as one big eat in kitchen, you may not need to put any cabinets on that wall.

Love the idea with the boxes… Good way to visualize volume! Good riddance to all the birds. About time! Other than that… It is VERY hard to get a grasp on your intentions for that first room just yet. IMO… I think 🤔 it’s all that brown furniture crowding the room. I kept watching & thinking that my first activity - if this was my room & my project - would be to go buy an easel big enough, take the mirror down & place it on said easel, very carefully, and correct side up, in a corner of the room. Then I would proceed to remove absolutely everything else, for now. Because… Only THEN would I be able to start thinking creatively about what potentially to do about the colour scheme 😂 Meanwhile, happy holidays & may you have a joyful time ahead amongst family & friends!
