I assume the reason you guys aren’t doing coarse to fine gravels as a base is cost, but I think the other commenters are right that this will really be the only solution. You need to permanently raise the base of the track as I don’t think the drainage can be meaningfully improved - having been through the course and really enjoyed it in a ridiculously capable Jeep. More important, although I don’t know you in the real world, Roman, I’ve watched your videos for years and did have the good fortune to meet Tommy when I was there. Having two sons of my own, maybe the most important reason (other than your wife) to do everything you can to maintain your health (and I say that as a guy who got a stent for his 50th and is about to turn 60) is to be there for your family - they need you. Sending prayers and positive energy for your good health!

Glad to see Roman out there there testing the course.. The Ranch proves the most fun offroading doesn't have to be over 10,000 feet in the Rockies.. this place is awesome

That first obstacle is collecting too much water without draining; boulders will help temporarily until it washes them too deep, but you really need it to drain consistently. Dig it out 3 feet, add a foot of very coarse gravel covered by a foot of normal gravel (French drain) and finally a foot of packed dirt to add a little mud challenge without it turning into an impassable swamp. Probably need to level out the top layer of mud after each run to keep from rutting out, but that should only take a few minutes. If an active stream crosses through it, then a small diameter concrete pipe should be place going through the coarse gravel to give the stream an easy path to prevent constant erosion on the obstacle.
@willeward
@willeward Жыл бұрын
It would be cool to dam up that stream at the top of your land and maybe dig a small creek going arround your cource with a valve in the dam to keep the perfect amount of water when you need it.

Do not put logs into the obstacles! Logs are slippery when they get wet and eventually organic matter will disintegrate and just make it worse. Fill those mud pits with big stones! That is the only way to make them passable over time. Trail maintenance will require more stones to be added as the obstacles get chewed up by the vehicles.

Well, you finally convinced me that the pond course needs work. Said in the past it is best left alone to challenge vehicles. Because we don't modify trails, we over come them. However, since the drainage problem is being ignored in favor of putting more crap down on top of the mud, it will NEVER get resolved. And it will cost time, physical labor that is hard on aging men and perhaps $ if you start buying products to put in the wholes that will swallow the product up anyhow. Be smart, fix the problem that is causing the erosion in the 1st place. Then the rest of the trail labor will not be futile/pointless efforts. Be smart. Be wise. Be a good example to your viewers. Be well.

Roman, hope you’re recovering and taking it easy. As far as the tractor, a snow pusher would be less expensive and probably better for the driveway area. Honestly though JD’s prices are getting insane. You could switch to Kubota, get a B series package with a cab, sell the 1025E and still barely spend extra.

At 7:59 , Look at your drivers-side rear tire !!! the tire lugs are completely "loaded up", rendering traction values non-existent....That's why I prefer the Interco "Cobalt" tire, lots of tire lug voids so the muddy stuff can be expelled, restoring the traction friction. PITA noisy for street driving however.

Snow blowers are great, but plug up with any wet snow. Blade works in all conditions. Plus without the show being thrown around you don't need a cab for the operator. Get some chains for the rear tires and some rear ballast and you'll never look back. Found a pre-tax price of $2,450 in about 5 sec. online but probably easier to have the dealer install it for what little extra they are charging you. Have fun!

I've used JD snowblowers for 30 years and never had them plug up with wet snow and slush. Way to powerful in pto driven form. Now one of those belt driven style or walk behinds might plug up but I cant imagine a situation that pto blower will ever clog.

Fill your holes with road base gravel. You have to maintain stuff like that... Using logs and things defeats the purpose, same with winching out every other obstacle.. If you want dirt to act like dirt then you gotta have dirt. It's that simple. Road base will drain and compact better. Road base and compact it.

David is a smart man, but something tells me, he is not fixing the true source problem because someone is not allowing it. $ for a blade instead of using what you have and spend the 3-5K snow blade cost on resolving the drainage problem is not good allocation of time and $. Snow comes and goes with the season, but that drainage problem won't fix its self.

@@WW-wf8tu The thing is, they want _some_ mud to make it challenging, but not too much that it's impassable.
