Not to be a know it all, but a test on a 5x7 inch photo with the same paper and lamination would have been a prudent approach I would suggest! Something to keep on file which may save costly future experimental tests. Same materials and approach, just models of the full size project. Hi Charlie, wherever you are! 👍 😃

You could have got the photos heat sealed onto a flat white board first, rather than laminating them which has left a visible border around the edges of the photos. That has the added benefit of being waterproof, and presumably resin proof at the same time.

I have only attempted one project of pouring a 1 inch layer on top of a log as a side table. I had all kinds of issues from, learning how to keep the goo from oozing out to, how do I fill a split. I was almost done and the split ripped open and slit the 1 inch pour on top. Now I have to deep pour the split, sand it all and then try to do a waterfall over the whole stump. This is really hard to do, man making mead is so much easier! I will attempt to finish it this summer and then I would like to try and do a picture of a map of Middle Earth.

Amazing experience. You really helped create some fantastic pieces. My only question which was not answered in the video is... HOW are these going to be hung? I would think you could route out a channel in the back and place it on the wall that way, but you put the photo all the way in the back of the pour. And obviously you don't want to show the channel in all that wonderful clear resin. Cheers on another great project and video!

Thanks for another GREAT video!!! Enjoyed seeing the success and the failures. When you put the pictures in plastic, did you use a hot lamination or cold lamination process? How are you able to eliminate the bubbles in the final piece, but had bubbles in one of the earlier pieces? Thanks for letting us see the process leading up to your final success! Outstanding work as always!!!
@BlackForestWoodCo

Thanks John! We always want our resin to be more on the cool side otherwise it will flash cure and cause bubbles. Lamination was the biggest thing in achieving perfect photos, but in general our Black Forest Deep Resin is a big reason why we get minimal bubbles!
@johncotton866
@johncotton866 Жыл бұрын
@@BlackForestWoodCo Cold or hot lamination refers to the process of adhering the plastic laminating material to the photo or paper. As a teacher, I often laminate materials so they will last longer. If the laminating machine has to be heated first, that is hot lamination. Cold lamination, which to me is better, is more appropriate for large objects. Also, the machine does not have to be heated. Does your shop have a laminating machine or did you take the photos somewhere else to be laminated?

Looks amazing, finally! I was wondering how they are going to be hung, did you inlay some key hole plates in back? Or is the hanging left to the client to sort out later? Look at 11:05 and you can see there are eight female threads that were most likely part of the initial pour of the back. Those can be used to screw a wooden strip all the way across on the top and the bottom. Cut a 45 degree angle in the strip, and in the matching strip that is secured to the wall, and gravity will then hold them together.

Especially since it's not museum mounting or anything. ) ...I used to frame pictures,photos,tapestries, golf clubs, helmets, about anything you can frame I have. And for your process with the epoxy. I think this would work well. The laminate and or adhesive used it high heat resistant so even if the epoxy gets a bit warm.. you'd be in good shape... Not sure that would do it. If I ever had several spare hundreds millions, I would open The Museum of Perfectionism. The art pieces on exhibition in this museums would not be “the perfect craft items”, no. The whole idea of The Museum of Perfectionism would be to show the *non*-perfect items.The costly failures like this. The failures that the Average Joe wouldn't ever guess what is even wrong with that - but the author, the craftman of the art piece, still considered that a failure and strived for better. And such a museum would be rather a sightseeing. Most people in the museums don’t really have a “click” with most of the items being exhibited. They roam around the halls, look at a picture, look at another picture, they typically don't know much of the context for each artpiece. Lucky if they find at least a single art piece they could stand by and examine for 15 minutes, immerse into its story. This museum would be a place with instant immersion into every piece by anyone: you would look at an art piece and try to guess what's wrong? what did the artist treated it as a “failure”? was that a costly failure? could it have been prevented? - and there would be a large explanation, story, description, covering all of that, no matter if you guessed “why it is a failure” or not. In the world of the aspiration to reach the perfect, it would be very didactic to see, how high some craftpersons raise the bar for themselves.
