You 2 def provide the advice I need! I'm getting back into woodworking after years of going back and forth, and your vids have been the 1st to really give me confidence in my choice to actually follow through and focus on building a business.

Couldn't agree more with this advice. If you make cost effective products then your market will be cost conscious people. If you make quality items/experiences and demand quality premiums you will have less money conscious people buying your products. It's an amazing feeling to get paid what you are actually worth. It's no fun being a small business trying to compete with Bangladesh made products in Target. Find people that value quality, story, and or experience and you will be shocked at how much better a woodworking business becomes.

Thanks for the encouragement! This really helps. I keep thinking sales is hard and where do I go to find more but this is a good reminder that I can ask the people around me to help me search. Thanks for this video!

Love this video and advice. I am struggling right now to even sell my boards for £50 here in Scotland. To get $178+ is a dream.

Davis, I love that you refer to selling popcorn with the Boy Scouts. I have known many young men (and women) who stared that way. And, If you haven't been told enough, congrats on bumbling to success. It is good inspiration to a lot of people.

I've been seeing your videos off and on over the last year or so, but I'm finally taking steps to launch my wood and leather business next year and I am just eating up your whole catalog now! I've been doing this tip the last few months, casually mentioning my upcoming business, and while I haven't closed a sale yet, I've had half a dozen people seriously wanting to know how much I charge to make them something. I haven't been following that up with your final question, asking if they know anyone, but I will definitely be adding that to my tactics. Thank you so much for the wonderful advice and encouragement you've given to me, personally, as I start this exciting and terrifying journey!

Thank you both! Definitely need a little encouragement, and you are always spot on with your advice! This year showed me that I really need to build up some inventory of items that sell well. That way, we can do custom orders while not struggling to keep up with demand!

If you're selling those cutting boards for that much, tell me to whom specifically. I've got some solid black walnut boards i want to sell for $500. Seems pretty reasonable.

Please don't delete the old videos unless they become irrelevant. (This is a message for all KZbinrs) They can be such encouragement to those who are starting out. I find that many KZbinrs will delete them thinking that they are embarrassed to have them posted for all to see. Actually they form the progression and document how they went from bad to good for both their craft and their KZbin development. Yes the worse they are in the beginning the better as long as they get better at their craft.

I'm starting a woodworking channel very soon (only have my name and bio setup so far if you wanna check it out) and showing that progression of skills is basically my whole philosophy for the channel! I'm extremely lucky to already have some tools and also some money to invest in my woodworking business and YT channel, but as far as skills (with woodworking, business management, and even content creation), I am basically a complete beginner. Glad to see this comment as it will serve as some encouragement and I think the progress will be a lot of fun to see! This video itself is a huge encouragement as I figure out which products I want to start with as I know that process may take a little while. Thank you, you two!

GREAT motivational video. You guys seem so comfortable behind the camera. We've been in business for almost 3 years, and I feel that a bit of video for our website and Facebook page would be helpful. I'm just not that comfortable and we have to figure out how to edit and post it. As much as having a channel would be nice, I'll settle with short video clips. Maybe one day. Keep up the AWESOME work you do.

I'll save everyone 10 minutes and 48 seconds. Just make something and then talk to people about what you are making and ask if they know anyone that wants it or if they want it. You're welcome.
@DMS2023111 ай бұрын
They don’t sell cutting boards. They sell subscriptions telling you to make cutting boards. Thus is literally the same as the ads in the backs of magazines in the 80s that for $12.95 would sell you a “system” for making money. It’s no different except it’s online. Ask yourself: If they’re making so much doing these things, why are they making videos? To help YOU? Bwahahaha.
