We are in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia! After a long journey back to Asia after seeing family and dropping off some bags, we are ready to keep exploring. From the diverse food, fantastic weather, and welcoming people to the epic landmarks and sights - our first day in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was amazing, we made an embarrassing mistake when it came to the Petronas Towers! Oh, and it was Adriana’s birthday! We squeezed in as many new and exciting things and our first impressions… Well, we were shocked, to say the least! Over the next few weeks, we will be exploring the beautiful country of Malaysia and what it has to offer! We plan on visiting Malacca, Penang, Langkawi and The Perhentian Islands.

wondering, how a T1 is able to go round eating so much diverse stuff? surely at some point, ever increasing insulin injection would cease to be effective. i myself as a T2 can do about 1/3 cup carbs without exercise or metformin. 1-2 cups carbs with exercise prior to and after meal without metformin. possibly 2-3 cups with exercise prior to and after meal with metformin. if the last scenario happens more than 2-3x a day, BG control limits most likely be exceeded. in the below, things turn out a little different. using sugar as a measurement guide, 76g is considered the limit at which BG outside limits is considered bad. i can usually stay within limits at 32g without exercise. with exercise prior and after, i can do 80g and at the 2hr mark, i ingest another 80g, 2 hours of further walking exercise later my BG at times can be even lower than at the first 2hr mark. is this what's happening with you?

Can't wait to see what you think of the islands....want to go back soon. I missed that museum. 🙂 On durian, I couldn't get past the smell, as they say. Try cendol without the durian. Also, there are a number of fantastic Malaysian desserts. Try as many as you can.

Coffe is a BIG DEAL HERE! Besides the fancy coffee shops, near your hotel get to Dang Wangi road and look for YUK KEE..It a very old coffee shop run by Hainanese Chinese....Try the local coffee there and their steam bread which comes with butter and Kaya( this is sweetened coconut based jam)...They also do western food like chicken chop or lamb chops etc...Its not q what you would expect. In the Alley behind this restaraunt is a tip selling fried noodles...a Malaysian answer to Pad Thai but with cockles....worth a try and can be spicy.

let's try Bukit Lawang, Bukit Lawang is the name of a tourist spot in Bohorok District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province, which is located 68 km northwest of Binjai City and around 80 km northwest of Medan City. Bukit Lawang is included in the scope of the Gunung Leuser National Park which is a conservation area for endangered orangutans. The Bukit Lawang orangutan rehabilitation center was founded in 1973. Its main aim is to conserve the orangutan population which is dwindling due to hunting, trade and deforestation.

Some friendly advice- next time you fly out to the Far East, visit Penang. Stay at Royale Chulan Hotel (very convenient for exploring old Penang and UNESCO heritage site), try out some of the local delicacies at Weld Food Stalls (just outside the hotel's main entrance) and have the best coffee at 'Slow Coffee Person Coffee Bar'. The street food scene in Penang is AMAZING and a lot tastier and cheaper than in KL or Singapore.

@@2Passports1Dream yes with crystal clear blue waters and corals are not far away from the shore. Perhentian besar , redang and rawa are basically resort type. Tioman is mix. Perhentian kecil is popular with backpackers. It is laid back. Do not expect fantastic internet, please be prepared. No roads. No hospital, No atm (bring cash) and keep it safe. It is probably similar to boracay vibe(philippines) before it was closed for 6 months not long ago. You know party at night. Fantastic Seafood. Scuba diving, snorkelling. Climbing hills, jungle trekking. But not as touristy as thailand's phuket, koh samui etc etc. The accommodation is not resort type. Just cabins or proper wooden structures. I will try to put youtube link about 2 groups of visitors. I chose them due to their interesting video and presentation. Lala libra (laura, was stucked here for 9 months during pandemic), she stayed in langkawi , tioman and perhentian. Perfect videos for you. Sally and ed are australians. Interesting and funny couple.

Starbux with cheaper alternative is GiGi coffee.. usually inside the mall, priced is RM10 for medium ice latte If you want cheaper and local, you can go to Chinese coffee shop or Mamak restaurant, they usually have local coffee and the price is around 1.50 - 5.00

Happy Birthday to Adriana. Have a great time in KL. The food in Malaysia: opposite with Vietname's food where street food is king, the best way to eat in KL is at the shopping's food court imo or unless you know where to go. The food is delicious, lots of local dishes, cheap/well price and clean with free air conditioning too. My top spot are the food court mall next to twin tower and Pavilion Mall groud floor food court. Can't go wrong. lol..

Yes, unfortunately drinks in Malaysia can be very sweet. Always ask for less sugar which is “kurang manis” or no sugar which is “kosong” For the best coffee, forget coffee house or places like Starbucks. Go to a Chinese coffeeshop and don’t forget to ask for “kurang manis” or “kosong “

You gotta stir the cendol so that it becomes light brown before you consume it. Though I admit it'll be hard to stir with the durian in it. Hence I would usually eat it separately or maybe have it in a bowl rather than that plastic take away cup.
